Photoelectrochemical (PEC) CO reduction using a photocathode is an attractive method for making valuable chemical products due to its simplicity and lower overpotential requirements. However, previous PEC processes have often been diffusion-limited leading to low production rates of the CO reduction reaction, due to inefficient gas diffusion through the liquid electrolyte to the catalyst surface, particularly at high current densities. In this study, a gas-permeable photocathode in a continuous flow PEC reactor is incorporated, which facilitates the direct supply of CO gas to the photocathode-electrolyte interface, unlike dark reaction-based flow reactors.

The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to detect defects such as concrete cracks in civil and transport infrastructure has the potential to make inspections less expensive, quicker, safer and more objective by reducing the need for on-site human labour. One deployment scenario involves using a drone to carry an embedded device and camera, with the device making localised predictions at the edge about the existence of defects using a trained convolutional neural network (CNN) for image classification. In this paper, we trained six CNNs, namely Resnet18, Resnet50, GoogLeNet, MobileNetV2, MobileNetV3-Small and MobileNetV3-Large, using transfer learning technology to classify images of concrete structures as containing a crack or not.

The problem of calibrating phased array antennas in a noisy environment using an autocorrelation algorithm is investigated and a mathematical model of the autocorrelation calibration method is presented. The proposed calibration system is based on far-field scanning of the phased array antenna in an environment with internal noise and external interference. The proposed method is applied to a phased array antenna and compared with traditional rotating-element electric-field vector methods, which involve identifying the maximum and minimum vector-sum points (REVmax and REVmin, respectively).

Bile acid salts are steroid biosurfactants that build relatively small micelles compared to surfactants with an alkyl chain due to the rigid conformation of the steroid skeleton. In order to increase the capacity of micellar solubilization of the hydrophobic molecular guest, certain C7 alkyl derivatives were synthesized. Namely, introducing an alkyl group in the C7 position of the steroid skeleton results in a more effective increase in the micelle's hydrophobic domain (core) than the introduction in the C3 position.
