The pursuit of high-performing cathode materials for next-generation lithium ion batteries has focused on increasing the nickel content of the material. However, this study reveals that particle size uniformity is a more decisive factor in battery performance than the nickel content alone. Using X-ray diffraction, gas evolution, and Atlung intercalant diffusion, we compared two promising cathode materials: LiNiMnCoO (NMC80) and LiNiMnCoO (NMC90).

The charge storage mechanism of mixed cobalt oxysulphide/hydroxide materials having electrochromic properties was investigated. The cobalt oxysulphide/hydroxide materials exhibit a dual reversible redox reaction and electrochromic properties in 1 M KOH during charging and discharging.

Manganese oxide nanoparticles decorated on 3D reduced graphene oxide aerogels (3D MnO /rGO) for neutral electrochemical capacitors were successfully produced by a rapid microwave reduction process within 20 s. The symmetric electrochemical capacitor of 3D MnO /rGO (Mn 3.0 at%) storing charges both electric double layer capacitance (EDLC) and pseudocapacitance mechanisms exhibits a specific capacitance of 240 F g as compared with 190 F g of that using the bare 3D rGO at 0.
