Background: The paratenon has been shown to promote Achilles tendon healing, but the evidence supporting the role of paratenon protection technique in Achilles tendon repair is sparse. We retrospectively assessed the results of a paratenon-sparing repair technique vs an open giftbox repair of Achilles tendon ruptures.
Methods: Patients with Achilles tendon rupture who underwent surgical treatment at our hospital between January 2015 and August 2021 were retrospectively reviewed.

Background: Chronic Achilles tendinopathy following Haglund disease is a common ankle condition that is difficult to manage. In this study, we will compare the clinical outcomes of debridement and ostectomy with and without FHL tendon transfer in treating Haglund deformity.
Methods: Forty eligible patients aged >50 years who did not respond to conservative treatment were randomly divided into 2 groups for surgical approach: using flexor hallucis longus (FHL) tendon transfer (FHL group) or "standard procedure" (control group).

Purpose: To assess outcomes following Achilles in-office needle tendoscopy (IONT) for the treatment of chronic Achilles tendinopathy (cAT) at a minimum 12-month follow-up.
Methods: A retrospective case series was conducted to evaluate patients who underwent Achilles IONT for cAT between January 2019 and December 2022. Inclusion criteria were patients ≥18 years of age and clinical history, physical history, and magnetic resonance imaging findings consistent with cAT who did not respond to a minimum of 3 months of conservative management for which each patient underwent Achilles IONT and had a minimum 12-month follow-up.

Background: Calcific insertional Achilles tendinopathy(CIAT) with Haglund deformity is a type of recalcitrant tendinopathy. The necessity of concomitant removal of Haglund deformity during CIAT treatment is controversial. The present study aimed to evaluate the functional outcomes between Haglund resection and Haglund non-resection in the treatment of CIAT with Haglund deformity.

Purpose: Acute Achilles tendon tears in young active individuals are often treated surgically with prolonged rehabilitation, with the leg initially immobilized in plantar flexion in serial non-weight bearing casts and gradually progressing to full weight bearing. This study aimed to evaluate the safety of an early functional unsupervised rehabilitation protocol.
Methods: The medical records of 25 patients treated with open repair were available for follow-up.

Purpose: Patient-related outcome measures (PROMs) are important instruments to evaluate efficacy of orthopaedic procedures. The Achilles tendon Total Rupture Score (ATRS) is a PROM developed to evaluate outcomes after treatment of Achilles tendon ruptures (ATRs). Purpose of this study is to develop and culturally adapt the German version of the ATRS and to evaluate reliability and validity.

Introduction: Mid-portion Achilles tendinopathy (mid-AT) is common in soldiers, significantly impacting activity levels and operational readiness. Currently, Victorian Institute of Sport Assessment-Achilles (VISA-A) represents the gold standard to evaluate pain and function in mid-AT. Our objective was to estimate VISA-A thresholds for minimal important change (MIC) and patient-acceptable symptom state for return to the presymptom activity level (PASS-RTA), in soldiers treated with a conservative programme for mid-AT.

Background: To date, minimally invasive surgery (MIS) involving calcaneal osteotomy for Haglund deformity associated with intractable insertional Achilles tendinopathy has not been reported. This study presents the radiographic and clinical outcomes of our novel MIS-dorsal closing wedge calcaneal osteotomy (DCWCO) technique compared to open Haglund resection. We hypothesized that earlier clinical improvement after MIS-DCWCO could be achieved by leaving the Achilles tendon insertion site untouched.

Background/purpose: Cervical and thoracic spine manipulation has been found to reduce tendon pain and disability in lateral epicondylalgia and rotator cuff tendinopathy. Based on these findings, the application of lumbar spine manipulation may also provide similar improvements in Achilles tendinopathy (AT). Therefore, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of lumbar spine manipulation on pain and disability in a patient experiencing AT.
