Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are cell derived membranous nanoparticles. EVs are important mediators of cell-cell communication via the transfer of bioactive content and as such they are being investigated for disease diagnostics as biomarkers and for potential therapeutic cargo delivery to recipient cells. However, existing methods for isolating EVs from biological samples suffer from challenges related to co-isolation of unwanted materials such as proteins, nucleic acids, and lipoproteins.

Background: The difficulties in defining hate crime, hate incidents and hate speech, and in finding a common conceptual basis constitute a key barrier toward operationalisation in research, policy and programming. Definitions disagree about issues such as the identities that should be protected, the types of behaviours that should be referred to as hateful, and how the 'hate element' should be assessed. Circulating osteo progenitor (COP) cells are a heterogeneous population of cells that circulate within the peripheral blood with characteristics of the bone marrow mesenchymal stem and progenitor pool. Little is known about the behavior of this cell population in humans. The aim of this study was to identify whether a relationship exists between COP cells (as a percentage of the peripheral blood monocytic cells) and musculoskeletal morphometry and to identify if COP have potential clinical utility as a biomarker for osteoporosis.

Previous literature has not examined the dual role of trust in franchise relationships. We extend the franchise and relational governance literature by showing that trust has both a "bright side" and a "dark side" in franchisor-franchisee relationships. Based on transaction cost and knowledge-based reasoning, we argue that intangible knowledge assets and environmental uncertainty have an indirect effect on performance via trust, due to its relational risk and knowledge exchange effect.

Obesity and aging are associated with increased oxidative stress, activation of stress and mitogen activated protein kinases (SAPK), and the development of insulin resistance and metabolic disease. In contrast, acute exercise also increases oxidative stress and SAPK signaling, yet is reported to enhance insulin sensitivity and reduce the risk of metabolic disease. The maintenance of transmembrane Na(+) and K(+) concentration gradients and membrane potential is vital for the production of force in skeletal muscle. In aging an inability to maintain ion regulation and membrane potential would have adverse consequences on the capacity for performing repeated muscle contractions, which are critical for everyday activities and functional independence.
