Animal experimental models are ruled out by respecting the 3Rs (Replacement, Reduction, Refinement) rules which governed the experimental research for decades with an increased tendency to minimize as much as it is possible any pain suffering or distress that the animals might feel. The chick embryo chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) model is an alternative to other experimental models due to its superior properties compared to other animal models. The CAM is painless by itself due to the lack of innervation and has no immune cells till the 11th day of incubation.

Background And Objectives: Recent studies suggest that vitamin D supplementation and higher serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25-OHD) concentrations may reduce the incidence of respiratory infections in children and adolescents. This cross-sectional study aimed to evaluate the association between different concentrations of vitamin D supplementation, serum 25-OHD concentrations, and the frequency of respiratory infections among individuals aged 1 to 18 years, for a duration of 2 years.
Methods: Concerning sun exposure in relation to vitamin D, the study took place in Romania, at approximately 45-degree northern latitude.

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) retinitis is a sight-threatening condition predominantly affecting immunocompromised individuals, such as those with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)/Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS). We aimed to present an observational case report on CMV retinitis following Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection and to review the literature on the molecular and cellular changes in CMV and SARS-CoV-2 infections and how they may influence each other. A 32-year-old man with a history of AIDS presented with decreased vision and ocular pain exacerbated by movement, beginning a day prior.

Objective: In our experimental study, we evaluated the influence of treatment with atorvastatin on the antioxidant activity of intracellular and extracellular systems factors, homocysteine levels (Hcy), and lipid profiles in obese and diabetic rats.
Method: Twenty-one male Wistar rats, aged 6 months, 450-550 g, were allocated into three groups. From the beginning of the study, the first group (G-I, control) received only standard food, while the second and third groups (G II-obese, G III-diabetic) were administered a high-fat diet (HFD) with 2% cholesterol.

This review addresses the ongoing challenges in asthma management, particularly focusing on patient adherence to inhaler therapy. Asthma, a chronic condition characterized by variable respiratory symptoms and airflow obstruction, can lead to significant morbidity and mortality if not properly managed. Despite advances in inhaler technology and therapeutic options, non-adherence remains a significant barrier to optimal asthma control.

Recent advances have highlighted the gut microbiota as a significant contributor to the development and progression of atherosclerosis, which is an inflammatory cardiovascular disease (CVD) characterized by plaque buildup within arterial walls. The gut microbiota, consisting of a diverse collection of microorganisms, impacts the host's metabolism, immune responses, and lipid processing, all of which contribute to atherosclerosis. This review explores the complex mechanisms through which gut dysbiosis promotes atherogenesis.

Recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) is a complex early pregnancy complication affecting 1-2% of couples and is often linked to immune dysfunction. Aberrations in T and B cell subpopulations, as well as natural killer (NK) cell activity, are particularly influential, with studies showing that abnormal NK cell activation and imbalances in T and B cell subtypes contribute to immune-mediated miscarriage risk. Successful pregnancy requires a tightly regulated balance between pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory immune responses.

: Diabetic patients are more likely to develop infections compared to the general population, especially urinary tract infections (UTIs). The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of UTIs in a population of patients with diabetes (DM) from Romania, to identify the most common uropathogens and their antimicrobial resistance (AMR) patterns, as well as to determine the correlations between resistance behavior and particularities of patients with UTIs according to DM type. : The hospital records of 1282 type 1 (T1D) and type 2 DM (T2D) adult inpatients who were ordered urine cultures during hospitalization were reviewed, and all 241 patients who presented a positive urine culture were included in the present study analysis.

is an emerging bacterial disease that often affects patients with compromised immune systems. As the number of patients undergoing solid organ transplants continues to rise, and as more cancer survivors are treated with long-term immune-modifying agents, corticosteroids, and immunosuppressive medications, organisms that typically pose no harm are becoming a public health concern. Carbapenems are usually a second-line therapy in the setting of infections.

: With the greatest rate of morbidity and death, OSCC is one of the world's most critical public health problems. Being a complex pathology, the management process that includes diagnostic, surgical, and adjuvant treatments must as well take into account the involvement of the immune system. This study aims to evaluate various biomarkers such as neutrophils, lymphocytes, platelets, SII, and NLR in the different stages of OSCC treatment and in correlation with TNM stages, in order to observe the inflammatory response of the host.
