Sarcomas are rare and have a high mortality rate. Further prognostic classification, with readily available parameters, is warranted, and several studies have examined circulating biomarkers and PET parameters separately. This single-site, retrospective study aimed to examine the prognostic values of several scoring systems in combination with PET parameters.

The diagnosis of chronic mesenteric ischaemia is typically based on angiographic findings along with a classic symptomatology. Only a few methods are available for functional testing to establish the diagnosis, such as indirect measurement of the splanchnic blood flow and hepatic vein oxygenation. The present case is a 76-year-old woman with weight loss and intermittent abdominal pain who was clinically suspected of chronic mesenteric ischaemia based on severe stenosis of the celiac artery and superior mesenteric artery.

Background: Diagnostic uncertainty in patients with dyspnea is associated with worse outcomes. We hypothesized that prehospital point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) can improve diagnostic accuracy.
Methods: Prospective observational study of adult patients suffering dyspnea.

Introduction: Acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease are associated with high morbidity and mortality. Telemonitoring may reduce the frequency of hospitalization. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of telemonitoring on hospitalization rates for acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Objective: We investigated the association between new-onset atrial fibrillation (AF) and risk of stroke and myocardial infarction (MI) in patients with abdominal aortic aneurysmal (AAA) disease.
Methods: Observational crossover study using Danish nationwide data, including patients with AAA and incident AF between 1997 and 2018. We estimated the 1-year risk of stroke and MI and the within-individual odds ratios (ORs) of ischemic events before and after an AF diagnosis, stratified by year of AF diagnosis (1997-2010 and 2011-2018), and supplemented with analyses on changes in use of antithrombotic therapy.

Parathyroid hormone (PTH) is a routine biochemical analysis, and it varies whether a second- or third-generation assay is used. Information on the levels obtained with different assays and evidence to substantiate local assay-specific reference ranges are important to inform clinical practice. Prior to a shift from the second- to the third-generation PTH assay (Cobas 8000, Roche Diagnostics) in the Department of Clinical Biochemistry, Aalborg University Hospital, Aalborg, Denmark, a total of 59 EDTA-plasma samples were collected for method comparison (Passing-Bablok).

Aim: Bariatric surgery improves insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance in obese individuals with type 2 diabetes (T2D), but there is a lack of data comparing the underlying metabolic mechanisms after the 2 most common surgical procedures Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery (RYGB) and sleeve gastrectomy (SG). This study was designed to assess and compare the effects of RYGB and SG on fuel metabolism in the basal state and insulin sensitivity during a two-step euglycemic glucose clamp.
Materials And Methods: 16 obese individuals with T2D undergoing either RYGB ( = 9) or SG ( = 7) were investigated before and 2 months after surgery, and 8 healthy individuals without obesity and T2D served as controls.

Background: Increasing incidence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) calls for improved understanding of how the disease affects metabolic liver function.
Aims: To investigate in vivo effects of different NAFLD stages on metabolic liver function, quantified as regional and total capacity for galactose metabolism in a NAFLD model.
Methods: Male Sprague Dawley rats were fed a high-fat, high-cholesterol diet for 1 or 12 weeks, modelling early or late NAFLD, respectively.

Cutis laxa (CL) is a rare, inherited or acquired connective tissue disorder characterized by abnormal elastic fibers causing loose and redundant skin and a prematurely aged appearance. The syndrome has been associated with hypertension, but cases with early-onset ischemic heart disease have never been described. Here, we report a 21-year-old Danish female with activity-related shortness of breath and oedema of the lower extremities.

Considerable uncertainty prevails regarding risk factors for recurrent fracture among older patients with hip fracture. We aimed to investigate the relationship between prefracture stroke history, baseline mobility, and the risk of recurrent hip fracture. This cohort study was based on the Danish Multidisciplinary Hip Fracture Registry, 2011-2018 (n = 48,230).

Background: This study investigates the prognostic value of plasma Programmed Death Protein-1 (PD-1) and Programmed Death-Ligand 1 (PD-L1) concentrations in patients with Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor (GIST).
Methods: Patients with GIST were included ( = 157) from the two Danish sarcoma centers, independent of disease- and treatment status. The patients were divided into three subgroups; 1: patients with localized disease who underwent radical surgery; 2: patients with local, locally advanced, or metastatic disease; and 3: patients without measurable disease who had undergone radical surgery.

Diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) is a common, complex and severe complication of diabetes that is associated with severely decreased health-related quality of life. Treatment of DFUs calls for a multi-sectoral approach, incorporating interdisciplinary care pathways. Telemedicine (TM) may be used as a communication tool between caregivers across healthcare sectors to obligate the need for close follow-up, including early intervention in preventing the recurrence of DFU.

Background: Genetically elevated plasma lipoprotein(a) and familial hypercholesterolemia each result in premature atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD); however, a direct comparison in the same population is needed of these 2 genetic traits on the risk of ASCVD.
Objectives: We determined the level of plasma lipoprotein(a) that is equivalent to low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol in clinically and genetically diagnosed familial hypercholesterolemia on risk of myocardial infarction and ASCVD.
Methods: We examined the CGPS (Copenhagen General Population Study) with determination of lipoprotein(a) and familial hypercholesterolemia in 69,644 individuals followed for 42 years, during which time, 4,166 developed myocardial infarction and 11,464, ASCVD.
