With its pathophysiological characteristics strongly similar to patients with tardive dyskinesia (TD), haloperidol (HP)-induced neurotoxicity and orofacial dyskinesia (OD) in animal models have long been used to study human TD. This study aimed to explore the potential protective effects of betaine (BT), a vital biochemical compound present in plants, microorganisms, animals, and various dietary sources. The study focused on investigating the impact of BT on haloperidol (HP)-induced orofacial dyskinesia (OD) in rats, as well as the underlying neuroprotective mechanisms.

Background: Repeat stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) for persistent cerebral arteriovenous malformation (AVM) has generally favorable patient outcomes. However, reporting studies are limited by small patient numbers and single-institution biases. The purpose of this study was to provide the combined experience of multiple centers, in an effort to fully define the role of repeat SRS for patients with arteriovenous malformation.

Objectives: McKeown esophagectomy is a standard and significant component of multimodality therapy in esophageal cancer, however, experience in switching the resection and reconstruction sequence in esophageal cancer surgery is not available. Here, we have retrospectively reviewed the experience of reverse sequencing procedure at our institute.
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 192 patients who had undergone minimally invasive esophagectomy (MIE) with McKeown esophagectomy between August 2008 and Dec 2015.

L-theanine (LT), which is a major amino acid found in green tea, was shown to alleviate Vincristine (VCR)-induced peripheral neuropathy and associated neuronal functional changes in rats. To induce peripheral neuropathy, rats were administered VCR at a dose of 100 mg/kg/day intraperitoneally on days 1-5 and 8-12, while control rats received LT at doses of 30, 100, and 300 mg/kg/day intraperitoneally for 21 days or saline solution. Electrophysiological measurements were taken to evaluate the nerve functional loss and recovery through motor and sensory nerve conduction velocities.

Major depressive disorder places a great burden on healthcare resources worldwide. Antidepressants are the first-line treatment for major depressive disorder, but if patients don't respond adequately, brain stimulation therapy may be needed as second-line treatment. Digital phenotyping in patients with major depressive disorder will aid in the timely prediction of treatment effectiveness.

Bariatric surgery reduces body weight, enhances metabolic and diabetic control, and improves outcomes on obesity-related comorbidities. However, the mechanisms mediating this protection against cardiovascular diseases remain unclear. We investigated the effect of sleeve gastrectomy (SG) on vascular protection in response to shear stress-induced atherosclerosis using an overweighted and carotid artery ligation mouse model.

Background: There are limited data regarding outcomes for patients with gastrointestinal (GI) primaries and brain metastases treated with stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS).
Objective: To examine clinical outcomes after SRS for patients with brain metastases from GI primaries and evaluate potential prognostic factors.
Methods: The International Radiosurgery Research Foundation centers were queried for patients with brain metastases from GI primaries managed with SRS.

Focused ultrasound (FUS) has the potential to modulate regional brain excitability and possibly aid seizure control; however, effects on behavior of FUS used as a seizure therapy are unknown. This study explores behavioral effects and hippocampal restoration induced by pulsed FUS in a kainic acid (KA) animal model of temporal lobe epilepsy. Twenty-nine male Sprague-Dawley rats were observed for 20 weeks with anatomical magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and behavioral performance evaluations, comprising measures of anxiety, limb usage, sociability, and memory.

Background: Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), defined as the presence of a mean pulmonary artery pressure > 20 mmHg, pulmonary artery wedge pressure ≤ 15 mmHg, and pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR) > 2 Wood units based on expert consensus, is characterized by a progressive and sustained increase in PVR, which may lead to right heart failure and death. PAH is a well-known complication of connective tissue diseases (CTDs), such as systemic sclerosis, systemic lupus erythematosus, Sjogren's syndrome, and other autoimmune conditions. In the past few years, tremendous progress in the understanding of PAH pathogenesis has been made, with various novel diagnostic and screening methods for the early detection of PAH proposed worldwide.

Background: Vestibular schwannomas (VSs) related to neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2) are challenging tumors. The increasing use of stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) necessitates further investigations of its role and safety.
Objective: To evaluate tumor control, freedom from additional treatment (FFAT), serviceable hearing preservation, and radiation-related risks of patients with NF2 after SRS for VS.

The early prediction of overall survival (OS) in patients with lung cancer brain metastases (BMs) after Gamma Knife radiosurgery (GKRS) can facilitate patient management and outcome improvement. However, the disease progression is influenced by multiple factors, such as patient characteristics and treatment strategies, and hence satisfactory performance of OS prediction remains challenging. Accordingly, we proposed a deep learning approach based on comprehensive predictors, including clinical, imaging, and genetic information, to accomplish reliable and personalized OS prediction in patients with BMs after receiving GKRS.

Microangiopathy should be noted in diabetes with subclinical vascular diseases. Little is known about whether various surrogate markers of systemic arterial trees exacerbate simultaneously in preclinical atherosclerosis. To clarify the association of skin microvascular reactivity with arterial stiffness is essential to elucidating early atherosclerotic changes.

While genetic analyses have revealed ~100 risk loci associated with osteoarthritis (OA), only eight have been linked to hand OA. Besides, these studies were performed in predominantly European and Caucasian ancestries. Here, we conducted a genome-wide association study in the Han Chinese population to identify genetic variations associated with the disease.

Purpose: Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) are highly effective treatments for brain metastases, particularly when these therapies are administered concurrently. However, there are limited data reporting the risk of radiation necrosis (RN) in this setting.
Methods And Materials: Patients with brain metastases from primary non-small cell lung cancer, renal cell carcinoma, or melanoma treated with SRS and ICI were considered.

With advancements in cardiopulmonary rehabilitation over the past few decades, the survival rate of patients with congenital heart disease (CHD) has increased. However, the Cardiopulmonary fitness (CPF) of these patients is poor. Here, we aimed to investigate CPF in preschoolers with CHD (aged 4 to 6 years) using cardiopulmonary exercise testing.

Background: The epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) are a first-line therapy for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with EGFR mutations. Approximately half of the patients with EGFR-mutated NSCLC are treated with EGFR-TKIs and develop disease progression within 1 year. Therefore, the early prediction of tumor progression in patients who receive EGFR-TKIs can facilitate patient management and development of treatment strategies.

Pulmonary stenosis (PS) affects cardiopulmonary function and exercise performance. Cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) together with transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) can measure exercise performance, PS progression, and treatment effects. We assessed exercise capacity in PS patients using these methods.

Purpose: Potential adverse outcomes of Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) have increasingly been reported. The potential risks to PPIs include hypomagnesemia and chronic kidney disease (CKD). Unlike a real-world electronic medical record (RW-EMR) with active-comparator design, claim databases and special population cohort with non-user design, using in previous studies, resulted in a wide range of strength of association with indication bias.
