Background And Purpose: In various circumstances of aortic repairs (heavy circumferential calcifications or shaggy aorta with extensive thrombus), open and endovascular techniques are at high risk. In addition to a likelihood of emboli, aortic clamping can be complicated by rupture and endovascular techniques may not be successful. We here describe a simple and reproducible hybrid technique that allows performing an aortic anastomosis without clamping in these situations.

In chronic kidney disease (CKD), calcium-sensing receptor (CaSR) expression and function have been extensively studied in parathyroid tissue and vascular tissues. To examine whether similar changes occurred in other tissues, we measured total and surface CaSR expression in monocytes of patients with various stages of CKD and healthy volunteers respectively in cross-sectional studies. We further explored in vitro the impact of uremic serum on CaSR expression in monocytes (U937 and THP-1 cell lines), and whether human peripheral blood mononuclear cells or U937 and THP-1 monocytes might modify vascular calcium deposition in rat carotid arteries in vitro.

Treatment of patients with melanoma has considerably improved over the past decade and more recently with adjuvant therapies for patients with American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) stage III (loco-regional metastases) or IV (distant metastases) totally resected melanoma, in order to prevent recurrence. In the adjuvant setting, two options are available to patients with BRAF-mutant AJCC stage III totally resected melanoma: anti-PD-1 blockers (nivolumab or pembrolizumab) or BRAF plus MEK inhibitors (dabrafenib plus trametinib). In the absence of comparative studies, it is difficult to determine which of these options is best.

Background: Antibody-mediated rejection (AMR) is a major cause of graft loss. The development of donor-specific antibodies (DSAs) directed against the allogeneic HLA molecules expressed by the graft also leads to accelerated arteriosclerosis. CD31 is a protein expressed on endothelial and immune cells, ensuring homeostasis at this interface.

The aim of this study was to identify new markers of deschloro-N-ethyl-ketamine (O-PCE), a ketamine analogue that has been involved in acute intoxications with severe outcomes including death and whose metabolism has never been studied before. In vitro study after 2-h incubation with pooled human liver microsomes (HLMs) cross-checked by the analysis of urine and hair from a 43-year-old O-PCE user (male) were performed by liquid chromatography-high resolution mass spectrometry (LC-HRMS). Acquired data were processed by the Compound Discoverer® software, and a full metabolic profile of O-PCE was proposed.

Activin/myostatin signalling acts to induce skeletal muscle atrophy in adult mammals by inhibiting protein synthesis as well as promoting protein and organelle turnover. Numerous strategies have been successfully developed to attenuate the signalling properties of these molecules, which result in augmenting muscle growth. However, these molecules, in particular activin, play major roles in tissue homeostasis in numerous organs of the mammalian body.

Purpose: To describe the immediate consequences of SARS-CoV-2 and the COVID-19 pandemic on the ocular surface and eye-care professionals, and to discuss the need for a mandatory switch from currently performed tele-screening to true teleconsultation for remote ocular surface assessment.
Main Findings: Ophthalmologists have been largely impacted by the COVID-19 sanitary crisis, due to both the ocular manifestations of SARS-CoV-2 and to the high contagiousness of the virus. The proximity of ophthalmologists to their patients have pushed eye-care providers to readapt their practices and develop alternatives to face-to-face consultations.

Background: Increasing patient age has been identified in clinical trials as a poor prognostic factor for functional independence after endovascular treatment (EVT) for acute ischemic stroke. These findings may not be fully generalizable to clinical practice due to strict inclusion and exclusion criteria in these trials. We aim to assess and quantify the association of patient age, especially in patients >80 and >90 years old, with functional outcome after EVT in current, everyday clinical practice.

Introduction: The benefits and risks of low-dose hydrocortisone in patients with septic shock have been investigated in numerous randomised controlled trials and trial-level meta-analyses. Yet, the routine use of this treatment remains controversial. To overcome the limitations of previous meta-analyses inherent to the use of aggregate data, we will perform an individual patient data meta-analysis (IPDMA) on the effect of hydrocortisone with or without fludrocortisone compared with placebo or usual care on 90-day mortality and other outcomes in patients with septic shock.

Iodinated contrast media (ICM) dose is a major factor for postoperative acute kidney injury (AKI) in patients with severe chronic kidney disease (glomerular function rate [GFR] <30 mL/min) during endovascular aortic repair (EVAR). Fusion imaging in hybrid rooms and carbon dioxide angiography represent alternatives but are limited by significant cost and availability. We here describe a simple technique allowing EVAR with a limited ICM dose (<5 mL).
