Sorbonne Université, INSERM, Institut Pierre Louis d'épidémiologie et de Santé publique (IPLESP UMRS 1136), Paris, France.

Influenza viruses cause seasonal epidemics whose intensity varies according to the circulating virus type and subtype. We aim to estimate influenza-like illness (ILI) incidence attributable to influenza viruses in France from October 2014 to May 2019. Physicians participating in the French Sentinelles network reported the number of patients with ILI seen in consultation and performed nasopharyngeal swabs in a sample of these patients.

Adaptation of independent midwives to the COVID-19 pandemic: A national descriptive survey.

Midwifery

March 2021

Midwifery Department, EA 7285, Versailles Saint Quentin University, F-78180 Montigny-le-Bretonneux, France; Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Poissy-Saint Germain Hospital, F-78300 Poissy, France.

Objective: The main objective of this survey was to identify how independent midwives, mainly working in primary care, adapted their practices at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in France. Our assumption was that this practice adaptation would vary according to both geographical area (timing of pandemic effect) and whether they practiced alone or in a group.

Design: We conducted an online national survey of independent midwives in France from March 16-23, 2020.

Br J Clin Pharmacol

July 2021

Centre for Research in Epidemiology and Population Health (CESP), Paris-Saclay University, Paris Sud University, Versailles Saint Quentin University, INSERM, France.

Aims: Long-term use of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) has been associated with adverse kidney events in the general population, but their impact among chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients is unclear. We studied the prevalence and incidence (new users) of PPI prescriptions and their relation to kidney outcomes and mortality in CKD patients.

Methods: We collected drug prescriptions prospectively in a cohort of 3023 nephrology outpatients with CKD stages 2-5 at inclusion.

BACKGROUNDCorticosteroids are widely used in patients with COVID 19, although their benefit-to-risk ratio remains controversial.METHODSPatients with severe COVID-19-related acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) were included from December 29, 2019 to March 16, 2020 in 5 tertiary Chinese hospitals. Cox proportional hazards and competing risks analyses were conducted to analyze the impact of corticosteroids on mortality and SARS-CoV-2 RNA clearance, respectively.

Department of Epidemiology of Health Products, The French National Agency for Medicines and Health Products Safety (ANSM), Saint-Denis, France.

Information available on the risks of neurodevelopmental disorders (NDs) associated with in utero exposure to valproate (VPA) and to other antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) is limited. A nationwide population-based cohort study was conducted based on comprehensive data of the French National Health Data System (SNDS). Liveborn infants without brain malformation, born between January 2011 and December 2014, were followed from birth up to December 2016.

Background: Hepatitis C virus (HCV) elimination by 2030, as targeted by the World Health Organization (WHO), requires that 90% of people with chronic infection be diagnosed and 80% treated. We estimated the cascade of care (CoC) for chronic HCV infection in mainland France in 2011 and 2016, before and after the introduction of direct-acting antivirals (DAAs).

Methods: The numbers of people (1) with chronic HCV infection, (2) aware of their infection, (3) receiving care for HCV and (4) on antiviral treatment, were estimated for 2011 and 2016.

Introduction: Mild Traumatic Brain Injury (mTBI) is a public health issue with approximately 42 million people worldwide affected yearly. Most patients have a favorable short-term recovery but 10-20% are likely to develop post-concussive syndrome (association of physical, cognitive, and psychological difficulties after injury). Post-concussive syndrome can be associated with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

FAK activity in cancer-associated fibroblasts is a prognostic marker and a druggable key metastatic player in pancreatic cancer.

Cancer Research Center of Toulouse (CRCT), team 6 "Protein synthesis & secretion in carcinogenesis", Equipe labellisée Ligue Contre Le Cancer, Labex TOUCAN, INSERM UMR 1037- University Toulouse III Paul Sabatier, Toulouse, France.

Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) are considered the most abundant type of stromal cells in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), playing a critical role in tumour progression and chemoresistance; however, a druggable target on CAFs has not yet been identified. Here we report that focal adhesion kinase (FAK) activity (evaluated based on 397 tyrosine phosphorylation level) in CAFs is highly increased compared to its activity in fibroblasts from healthy pancreas. Fibroblastic FAK activity is an independent prognostic marker for disease-free and overall survival of PDAC patients (cohort of 120 PDAC samples).

Background: Our study describes the feasibility and efficacy of a first-line FOLFIRINOX (5-fluorouracil [5FU], folinic acid, irinotecan, and oxaliplatin) induction chemotherapy (CT) followed by de-escalation as a maintenance strategy for advanced pancreatic cancer.

Materials And Methods: This multicenter retrospective study was conducted from January 2011 to December 2018. FOLFIRINOX de-escalation was defined as stopping oxaliplatin and/or irinotecan after at least four cycles of FOLFIRINOX, without evidence of disease progression.

Metastatic pancreatic ductal adenocarcinomas (PDACs) are now more effectively controlled using chemotherapy combinations such as FOLFIRINOX and gemcitabine plus nab-paclitaxel (NabP) regimens with a subset of patients who achieve a sustained tumor stabilization or response. The next challenge is to design maintenance therapies that result in continued tumor control with minimal toxicity. Quality of life should always be a priority in these patients with prolonged survival.

The Forensic Science Institute of the French "Gendarmerie Nationale" (IRCGN™) developed in 2015 an ISO 17025 certified mobile DNA laboratory for genetic analyses. This Mobil'DNA laboratory is a fully autonomous and adaptable mobile laboratory to perform genetic analyses in the context of crime scenes, terrorism attacks or disasters. To support the hospital task force in Paris during the peak of the COVID-19 epidemic, we adapted this mobile genetic laboratory to perform high-throughput molecular screening for coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 by real-time PCR.

A transcriptomic continuum of differentiation arrest identifies myeloid interface acute leukemias with poor prognosis.

Leukemia

Université de Paris, Institut Necker Enfants Malades (INEM), Institut national de la santé et de la recherche médicale (INSERM UMR1151), 75743, Paris, France.

Classification of acute lymphoblastic and myeloid leukemias (ALL and AML) remains heavily based on phenotypic resemblance to normal hematopoietic precursors. This framework can provide diagnostic challenges for immunophenotypically heterogeneous immature leukemias, and ignores recent advances in understanding of developmental multipotency of diverse normal hematopoietic progenitor populations that are identified by transcriptional signatures. We performed transcriptional analyses of a large series of acute myeloid and lymphoid leukemias and detected significant overlap in gene expression between cases in different diagnostic categories.

  • The study aimed to explore how midwives in France practice cervical cancer screening and determine women's eligibility for screening during pregnancy.
  • Conducted between February and May 2018, the research gathered responses from 273 midwives through an internet-based survey, which included a clinical case vignette.
  • Results revealed that 15% of midwives never screen during pregnancy, while 63.7% screen women aged 25 and older; however, adherence to complete screening protocols varied significantly based on gestational age, with only 29% willing to perform a Pap test at 25 weeks.
