Background: A few studies have documented associations between socioeconomic position and gait speed, but the knowledge about factors from various domains (personal factors, lifestyle, occupation…) which contribute to these disparities is limited. Our objective was to assess socioeconomic disparities in usual gait speed in a general population in early old age in France, and to identify potential contributors to the observed disparities, including occupational factors.
Methods: The study population comprised 397 men and 339 women, aged 55 to 69, recruited throughout France for the field pilot of the CONSTANCES cohort.

Objective: To assess variations in adherence to guidelines for management of postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) among midwives.
Methods: A multicentre vignette-based study was e-mailed to a random sample of midwives from 145 maternity units in France. They were asked to describe how they would manage the PPH described in 2 case-vignettes.
Objective: to identify staff and institutional factors associated with substandard care by midwives managing postpartum hemorrhage (PPH).
Methods: A multicenter vignette-based study was e-mailed to a random sample of midwives at 145 French maternity units that belonged to 15 randomly selected perinatal networks. Midwives were asked to describe how they would manage two case-vignettes about PPH and to complete a short questionnaire about their individual (e.

Introduction And Hypothesis: Obstetric trauma during childbirth is considered a major risk factor for postpartum urinary incontinence (UI), particularly stress urinary incontinence. Our aim was to investigate the relation between postpartum UI, mode of delivery, and urethral descent, and to define a group of women who are particularly at risk of postnatal UI.
Methods: A total of 186 women were included their first pregnancy.

Introduction: In the context of delayed retirement age, we aimed to study the association between a score for global evaluation of perceived physical strain (PPS) at work and limitations after retirement in the GAZEL cohort.
Methods: At baseline in 1989 and every year since then, the PPS question, 'Do you find that your work is physically strenuous?' was used as a proxy measure of general occupational physical exertion or load; it was coded into a score, and divided into four categories for men and three for women. The self-report question about limitations was asked in 1989 and 2012 (difficulties performing some daily life activities).

Background: Population attributable risks (PARs) are useful tool to estimate the burden of risk factors in cancer incidence. Few studies estimated the PARs of oral cavity cancer to tobacco smoking alone, alcohol drinking alone and their joint consumption but none performed analysis stratified by subsite, gender or age. Among the suspected risk factors of oral cavity cancer, only PAR to a family history of head and neck cancer was reported in two studies.

Purpose: Self-expandable metallic stent (SEMS) placement is an accepted palliative therapy for management of acute malignant bowel obstruction in advanced colorectal cancer. Nevertheless, data are lacking on the effects of systemic chemotherapy combined with colorectal SEMS. The aim of this study was to investigate the safety and efficacy of palliative chemotherapy for advanced colorectal cancer combined with colorectal SEMS placement.

Introduction And Hypothesis: Patients with deep infiltrating pelvic endometriosis (DIE) often describe having lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). Bladder pain syndrome in women is also often associated with endometriosis. In this study, we aimed to describe the characteristics of LUTS and urodynamic observations in patients with posterior endometriosis versus those with posterior and anterior endometriosis.

Objective: To evaluate whether responses to dynamic case-vignettes accurately reflect actual practices in complex emergency situations. We hypothesized that when obstetricians were faced with vignette of emergency situation identical to one they previously managed, they would report the management strategy they actually used. On the other hand, there is no reason to suppose that their response to a vignette based on a source case managed by another obstetrician would be the same as the actual management.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with a high prevalence of cerebrovascular disorders such as stroke, white matter diseases, intracerebral microbleeds and cognitive impairment. This situation has been observed not only in end-stage renal disease patients but also in patients with mild or moderate CKD. The occurrence of cerebrovascular disorders may be linked to the presence of traditional and non-traditional cardiovascular risk factors in CKD.

Objectives: The boom in computer use and concurrent high rates in musculoskeletal complaints and carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) among users have led to a controversy about a possible link. Most studies have used cross-sectional designs and shown no association. The present study used longitudinal data from two large complementary cohorts to evaluate a possible relationship between CTS and the performance of computer work.

Introduction: Long-term exposure to air pollution (AP) has been shown to have an impact on mortality in numerous countries, but since 2005 no data exists for France.
Objectives: We analyzed the association between long-term exposure to air pollution and mortality at the individual level in a large French cohort followed from 1989 to 2013.
Methods: The study sample consisted of 20,327 adults working at the French national electricity and gas company EDF-GDF.

Introduction: Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) in the workplace appears to be managed more effectively than OHCA occurring in other places. A systematic review and meta-analysis of the available epidemiological data was performed, comparing the rate of survival for OHCA in the workplace, versus survival in other locations.
Methods: Four databases (Pub-Med, Scopus, Web of science, "Base de Données de Santé Publique", BDSP, i.

In epidemiological cohorts, there is an increased interest for the implementation of biobanks. The potential role of biological determinants of diseases needs to be investigated before the onset of the event of interest in order to limit the problems encountered when examining biological determinants in classical case-control studies. Biobank is now a very sophisticated system that consists of a programmed storage of biological material and related data.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to estimate the incidence of chronic and other knee pain (KP) in relation to occupational and personal risk factors among workers representative of a general working population.
Methods: Of 3710 workers in a French region included in a surveillance network for musculoskeletal disorders (2002-2005), 2332 completed a follow-up questionnaire in 2007-2009 (Cosali cohort). The questionnaires included questions on musculoskeletal symptoms, and personal and occupational exposure.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate changes in invasive procedure rates after the addition of intrauterine balloon tamponade as an initial second-line therapy to our protocol for the management of severe postpartum hemorrhage.
Study Design: We compared the outcomes of all patients with postpartum hemorrhage that was unresponsive to prostaglandin during 2 equal periods, before (first period) and after (second period) the introduction of a balloon tamponade protocol.
Results: During the second period, 43 women had uterine tamponade with a Bakri balloon as their initial second-line therapy (after vaginal delivery, 31; after caesarean delivery, 12).
