Numerous epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) characteristics have now been demonstrated to participate in tumor development. Indeed, EMT is involved in invasion, acquisition of stem cell properties, and therapy-associated resistance of cancer cells. Together, these mechanisms offer advantages in adapting to changes in the tumor microenvironment.

Pediatric Outpatient Prescriptions in Countries With Advanced Economies in the 21st Century: A Systematic Review.

JAMA Netw Open

April 2022

Obstetrical, Perinatal and Pediatric Epidemiology Research Team, Centre of Research in Epidemiology and Statistics, Université de Paris, National Institute of Health and Medical Research, F-75004, Paris, France.

Importance: An international comparison of pediatric outpatient prescriptions (POPs) is pivotal to investigate inadequate practices at the national scale and guide corrective actions.

Objective: To compare annual POP prevalence among Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) member countries.

Evidence Review: Two independent reviewers systematically searched PubMed, Embase, and institutes of public health or drug agency websites for studies published since 2000 and reporting POP prevalence (expressed as number of patients aged <20 years with ≥1 POP per 1000 pediatric patients per year) in OECD member countries or large geographic areas within them.

Thrombectomy in basilar artery occlusions: impact of number of passes and futile reperfusion.

J Neurointerv Surg

May 2023

Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Neuroradiology, CHRU Nancy, Nancy, Lorraine, France.

Background: The number of mechanical thrombectomy (MT) passes is strongly associated with angiographic reperfusion as well as clinical outcomes in patients with anterior circulation ischemic stroke. However, these associations have not been analyzed in patients with basilar artery occlusion (BAO). We investigated the influence of the number of MT passes on the degree of reperfusion and clinical outcomes, and compared outcome after ≤3 passes versus >3 passes.

Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) have an elevated prevalence of atheromatous (ATH) and/or non-atheromatous (non-ATH) cardiovascular disease (CVD) due to an array of CKD-related risk factors, such as uremic toxins (UTs). Indeed, UTs have a major role in the emergence of a spectrum of CVDs, which constitute the leading cause of death in patients with end-stage renal disease. The European Uremic Toxin Work Group has identified over 100 UTs, more than 25 of which are dietary or gut-derived.

Background: To ensure the success of COVID-19 vaccination, public authorities need to have the support of the entire population and build vaccine confidence. Identifying and understanding the determinants of vaccine acceptance is essential for conducting vaccine strategy. The aim was to estimate vaccine hesitancy among healthcare students in France and to investigate the associated factors.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates if the reversal of DWI lesions in acute ischemic stroke patients can predict their clinical outcomes after thrombectomy.
  • It analyzes data from patients with low DWI-ASPECTS scores treated between 2015 and 2020, finding that a significant percentage experienced early neurological improvement and favorable 3-month functional outcomes.
  • The results show that DWI reversal is a key factor in predicting these outcomes, with successful recanalization being the main predictor of DWI reversal.

Whole Exome/Genome Sequencing Joint Analysis of a Family with Oligogenic Familial Hypercholesterolemia.

Metabolites

March 2022

INSERM, Laboratory for Vascular Translational Science (LVTS), F-75018 Paris, France.

Article Synopsis
  • Autosomal Dominant Hypercholesterolemia (ADH) is a genetic condition linked to mutations in specific genes, and the study focused on identifying new candidate genes in a French family with varying ADH risk.
  • Researchers used advanced genetic techniques to find multiple mutations in known and unknown genes, discovering a set of variants connected with the ADH trait among patients.
  • Despite identifying several genetic variants, the findings indicate that no single variant causes elevated LDL cholesterol; rather, a combination of these variants seems necessary to express the ADH phenotype.

Neurogenic heterotopic ossifications (NHOs) are incapacitating complications of traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries (SCI) that manifest as abnormal bone formation in periarticular muscles. Using a unique model of NHO after SCI in genetically unmodified mice, we have previously established that the innate immune system plays a key driving role in NHO pathogenesis. The role of adaptive immune cells in NHO pathogenesis, however, remains unexplored in this model.

Tumor budding is an independent prognostic factor in stage III colon cancer patients: a post-hoc analysis of the IDEA-France phase III trial (PRODIGE-GERCOR).

Ann Oncol

June 2022

Department of Medical Oncology, Saint-Antoine Hospital, AP-HP, Paris, France; SIRIC CURAMUS, Sorbonne University, Paris, France. Electronic address:

Background: Histological characteristics at the invasive front may reflect tumor aggressiveness; specifically, tumor budding (Bd) is an emerging prognostic biomarker in colon cancer (CC). We explored further the significance of Bd for risk stratification by evaluating survival of stage III CC patients included in the IDEA-France phase III trial.

Patients And Methods: This post-hoc study was conducted on tissue slides from 1048 stage III CC patients.

Background And Purpose: Rescue therapies are increasingly used in the setting of endovascular therapy for large-vessel occlusion strokes. Among these, cangrelor, a new P2Y12 inhibitor, offers promising pharmacologic properties to join the reperfusion strategies in acute stroke. We assessed the safety and efficacy profiles of cangrelor combined with endovascular therapy in patients with large-vessel-occlusion stroke.

(2) Methods: An online survey was administered to individuals who reported to have had SARS-CoV-2 infection at least 6 months prior with persisting COVID-19 symptoms (using the COVID symptom index), including ratings of POD and PGD, and their physical (PCS) and mental (MCS) components of quality of life were assessed using the standardized short form 12 questionnaire (SF-12). (3) Results: Responses from 431 unique individuals were included in the analyses.
