Objective: Recent studies have shown that in carefully selected patients, conservative treatment alone can be an option in the management of spinal epidural abscess (SEA). The aim of this study was to identify prognostic factors of outcome in patients with spontaneous SEA treated conservatively.
Patients And Methods: A retrospective cohort study of all patients with spontaneous SEA treated with antibiotics alone from January 2012 to December 2015 was conducted in a 1200-bed tertiary referral center.

Purpose: Angiogenesis is an essential process for the expansion of multiple myeloma (MM). Angiopoietin-2 (Ang-2), Ang-1 and their receptor possess important roles in this procedure. The aim of the study was to measure serum levels of Ang-2 along with known markers of angiogenesis and to estimate their prognostic impact on the survival.

We present a case of a patient treated with etanercept (TNF-a antagonist) for psoriatic arthritis, who then developed clinical symptoms of lepromatous leprosy. She presented with multiple erythematous plaques on trunk, face and extremities, saddle nose deformity, alopecia, articular deformities of the feet and peroneal neuropathy. The clinical suspicion of Hansen's Disase was confirmed by the biopsy findings (lepromatous leprosy).

An essential cytokine system for the osteoclast biology in multiple myeloma (MM) consists of the receptor of activator of NF-κB ligand (RANKL), its receptor (RANK), and the soluble decoy receptor, osteoprotegerin (OPG). Myeloma cells cause imbalance in OPG/RANKL interactions. We measured serum levels of OPG, soluble (s) RANKL, sRANKL/OPG ratio, markers of disease activity [LDH, CRP, interleukin-6 (IL-6), β2-microglobulin (B2M)], and angiogenic factors [hepatocyte growth factor (HGF), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)], in 54 newly diagnosed MM patients and in 25 of them in plateau phase.

Ischemic colitis is the most common form of ischemic injury of the gastrointestinal tract and can present either as an occlusive or a non-occlusive form. It accounts for 1 in 1000 hospitalizations but its incidence is underestimated because it often has a mild and transient nature. The etiology of ischemic colitis is multifactorial and the clinical presentation variable.

Background & Aims: Although ischemic colitis (IC) usually occurs in old people with concomitant illnesses, an increasing frequency of this disease among young people has been reported. Inherited risk factors have been suggested to play an important role in the pathogenesis of IC. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence and possible role of mutations associated with cardiovascular morbidity in young patients with IC.

Ortner's syndrome (cardiovocal syndrome) is the clinical entity of hoarseness due to left recurrent laryngeal nerve palsy caused by cardiovascular disease. We present a case of an 86-year-old woman with hoarseness as a prominent symptom due to a large painless aneurysm of the thoracic aorta, which soon ruptured. Cardiovocal syndrome can be a rare but an important and probably the only major clinical finding of a painless aortic rupture.
