Pectate lyases, known for their alkaliphilic nature, are ideal for industrial applications that require specific pH conditions, particularly in industries such as textiles and pulp extraction. These enzymes, primarily from the polysaccharide lyase family 1 (PL1) of different microbial sources, play a vital role in polysaccharide degradation. Given the potent pectinolytic activity of Bacillus pectate lyases, targeting these enzymes is crucial for identifying the most effective candidates.

Context: Xylanases derived from Bacillus species hold significant importance in various large-scale production sectors, with increasing demand driven by biofuel production. However, despite their potential, the extreme environmental conditions often encountered in production settings have led to their underutilisation. To address this issue and enhance their efficacy under adverse conditions, we conducted a theoretical investigation on a group of five Bacillus species xylanases belonging to the glycoside hydrolase GH11 family.

Infection is one of the major factors affecting wound healing. The use of polymeric fibrous constructs or scaffolds with encapsulated biologically active components has shown great potential in topical wound care as wound dressings to expedite wound healing process; however, there is a limitation in precise control over the release of active components. Therefore, in this study, the authors developed a facile method for controlled fabrication of poly(-caprolactone) (PCL) microfibrous constructs with silver (Ag) nanoparticles as antibacterial agent by single capillary electrospinning.

Bone cancer or osteosarcoma is an aggressive cancer affecting the long bones and is treated by a combination of surgery and chemotherapy. Local drug delivery directly to the site of bone cancer and the use of plant-based drugs has been explored towards improving the efficacy and decreasing the toxicity of the anti-cancer drugs. Curcumin, derived from turmeric is highly effective against cancer cells and shows very low toxicity against normal cells.
