Background: Surgical trauma causes immune impairment, but it is largely unknown whether surgery for cancer and benign diseases instigate comparable levels of immune inhibition. Here, we compared the impact of laparoscopic surgery on immunological biomarkers in patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) and ventral hernia (VH).

Methods: Natural Killer cell activity (NKA), leukocyte subsets, and soluble programmed death ligand 1 (sPD-L1) were measured in blood samples collected from CRC (n = 29) and VH (n = 9) patients preoperatively (PREOP) and on postoperative day (POD) 1, 3-6, 2 weeks and 3 months.

Background: Shared care between oncology specialists and general practice regarding the delivery of palliative care (PC) is necessary to meet the demands for a cohesive PC. The primary objective of this study is to investigate models of cross-sectorial integration between primary care and oncology specialists that have been developed to promote early and basic PC and factors influencing the process.

Method: A scoping review was conducted using publications dated up until April 2023.

Many studies have focused on the prognostic role of soluble programmed death ligand 1 (sPD-L1) in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), but outcomes are ambiguous and further investigations are needed. We addressed the matter by studying sPD-L1 in baseline samples and in longitudinal samples taken prior to three subsequent cycles of anti-PD-1/anti-PD-L1 treatments. Eighty patients with NSCLC were enrolled.

Background And Purpose: Irradiation of the heart in thoracic cancers raises toxicity concerns. For accurate dose estimation, automated heart and substructure segmentation is potentially useful. In this study, a hybrid automatic segmentation is developed.

Transfusion-Related Acute Lung Injury (TRALI) has been associated with neutrophil reacting antibodies in transfused blood products. We report a case of life-threatening TRALI in an obstetric patient triggered by transfusion from a non-transfused male blood donor. A residual risk of TRALI exist, even in a male-only plasma setting.

Objective: Recent research indicated favorable prognostic impact of intratumoral natural killer (NK) cells in ovarian carcinoma (OC). The role of NK cells during chemotherapy in OC is unknown. We investigated impact of NK cells in OC patients treated with palliative chemotherapy.

Background: There is a paucity of high-level evidence on the optimal follow-up of patients with ovarian cancer after primary treatment. A debate is ongoing on the extent to which follow-up should consider patient preferences and patient-reported outcome measures. Incorporation of patient-reported outcome measures supports the dialog between patient and clinician and may be instrumental in symptom monitoring and detection of underlying issues, especially when used actively during the clinical consultation.

Purpose: Biomarkers are needed to guide treatment decisions in recurrent ovarian cancer, as a high proportion of patients do not benefit from treatments. Data on immune subsets in patients receiving chemotherapy are scarce. We investigated the impact of T cells, B cells, neutrophils and the neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in ovarian cancer patients receiving palliative chemotherapy.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of completeness of the radiological reports in primary local staging colon cancer when using a template.

Methods: The study used primary staging reports retrieved from the departments RIS/PACS. Five key tumour descriptors were evaluated within each report: tumour morphology (polypoid or annular), information on tumour breach of the colon wall (≥ T3), tumour out-growth in mm, nodal status and TNM in conclusion.
