Introduction: Significant therapeutic changes have recently occurred in the management of melanoma brain metastases (BMs), both in the field of local treatments, with the rise of stereotactic radiotherapy (RT), as well as in systemic ones, with the advent of immunotherapy and targeted therapies (TT). These advances have brought about new challenges, particularly regarding the potential interactions between new TT (notably BRAF/MEK inhibitors) and irradiation. Through a clinical case, we will discuss a side effect not previously described in the literature: ultra-early pseudoprogression (PP) following brain stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS), in a patient treated with dabrafenib-trametinib.

Peri-implantitis poses a significant challenge for implant dentistry due to its association with bacterial colonization on implant surfaces and the complexity of its management. This systematic review aims to assess evidence from in vivo studies regarding the antimicrobial efficacy of titanium (Ti) dental implant surfaces following physical/chemical modifications or the application of various metal element coatings in preventing bacterial growth associated with peri-implantitis. A literature review was conducted across four scientific databases (PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science), encompassing in vivo studies published between 2013 and 2024, and 18 reports were included in the systematic review.

The microRNA 21 (miR-21) is upregulated in almost all known human cancers and is considered a highly potent oncogene and potential therapeutic target for cancer treatment. In the liver, miR-21 was reported to promote hepatic steatosis and inflammation, but whether miR-21 also drives hepatocarcinogenesis remains poorly investigated in vivo. Here we show using both carcinogen (Diethylnitrosamine, DEN) or genetically (PTEN deficiency)-induced mouse models of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), total or hepatocyte-specific genetic deletion of this microRNA fosters HCC development-contrasting the expected oncogenic role of miR-21.

Poor sleep and daytime sleepiness are common in people with epilepsy. Sleep disorders can disrupt seizure control and in turn sleep and vigilance problems can be exacerbated by seizures and by antiepileptic treatments. The impacts of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic on cancer care are multiple, entailing a high risk of death from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in patients with cancer treated by chemotherapy. SARS-CoV-2 vaccines represent an opportunity to decrease the rate of severe COVID-19 cases in patients with cancer and also to restore normal cancer care. Cerebral microdialysis (CMD) enables monitoring brain tissue metabolism and risk factors for secondary brain injury such as an imbalance of consumption, altered utilization, and delivery of oxygen and glucose, frequently present following spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage (SICH). The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between lactate/pyruvate ratio (LPR) with hemodynamic variables [mean arterial blood pressure (MABP), intracranial pressure (ICP), cerebral perfusion pressure (CPP), and cerebrovascular pressure reactivity (PRx)] and metabolic variables (glutamate, glucose, and glycerol), within the cerebral peri-hemorrhagic region, with the hypothesis that there may be an association between these variables, leading to a worsening of outcome in comatose SICH patients. This is an international multicenter cohort study regarding a retrospective dataset analysis of non-consecutive comatose patients with supratentorial SICH undergoing invasive multimodality neuromonitoring admitted to neurocritical care units pertaining to three different centers.
