Robert and Suzanne Tomsich Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Heart, Vascular and Thoracic Institute, Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio. Electronic address:

Several studies designed to augment high density lipoprotein (HDL) levels have so far been unsuccessful in reducing rates of major adverse cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events (MACCE). In this study, we report the effect of HDL-C levels on overall survival outcomes and rates of MACCE following percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). We reviewed patients who underwent PCI at the Cleveland Clinic from 2005 to 2017 and followed them through the end of 2018.

Kidney transplant recipients (KTRs) are considered high-risk patients for surgical interventions. Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) has been introduced as an alternative to surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) in patients with aortic stenosis (AS) at high operative risk. However, the outcomes of TAVI compared with SAVR KTRs have not been well-studied in nationally representative data.

As the use of transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) expands to varying patient populations, impacting the landscape of surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR), this study sought to assess volume and performance trends of aortic valve replacement (AVR) in the United States during 2012-2017. The Nationwide Readmissions Database was queried for patients who underwent endovascular/transapical TAVI, isolated SAVR, or complex aortic valve surgery between 2012 and 2017. Temporal trends in annual case volume, admission costs, in-hospital outcomes, and 30-day readmission were evaluated.

Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Aortic Valve Center, Heart and Vascular Institute, Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio. Electronic address:

Objectives: The aim of this study was to compare outcomes after transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) in patients with pure aortic stenosis (AS) (i.e., no or trivial associated aortic regurgitation [AR]) with those in patients with AS and mild or more severe AR (i.

In-hospital mortality and stroke after surgical aortic valve replacement: A nationwide perspective.

J Thorac Cardiovasc Surg

September 2015

Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Section of Interventional Cardiology, Heart and Vascular Institute, Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio. Electronic address:

Background: Stroke is a widely recognized complication after aortic valve replacement (AVR), especially among elderly patients. The literature contains substantial variability in reports of the actual incidence of stroke after AVR among high-risk patients. Our objective was to define risk of stroke in patients undergoing surgical AVR, using a large national database.
