We sought to assess the impact of ablation during index hospitalization (IH) on all-cause mortality (ACM) in patients presenting with newly diagnosed typical atrial flutter (tAFL) as compared with patients without ablation, irrespective of optimal rate or rhythm control medications.  We identified patients with newly diagnosed tAFL in the TriNetX Research Network between January 20, 2010, and January 20, 2021. Using International Classification of Diseases, 10th revision (ICD-10) codes, patients were stratified into those who had undergone ablation during IH and those who did not undergo the procedure.

Article Synopsis
  • A 72-year-old male developed a pseudoaneurysm in the ascending aorta after treatment for an aortic dissection during heart surgery.
  • This condition was successfully managed using an endovascular graft placement.
  • The case highlights the complexity of such health issues and the effective use of endovascular stent grafts in the ascending aorta.

We assessed the association between troponin levels and all-cause mortality in individuals with chest pain who presented to the Charleston Area Medical Center Emergency Department (CAMC). We identified adult patients with chest pain as defined in the International Classification of Diseases 10 (R07) family group from the CAMC data warehouse between June 6, 2020, and June 6, 2021. These cases required a visit to the emergency room.

Impact of TAVR on patients with severe aortic stenosis and liver cirrhosis.

CAMC Vascular Center of Excellence, Charleston Area Medical Center, Charleston, West Virginia, United States.

We sought to assess the impact of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) on patients that have both severe aortic stenosis (SAS) and liver cirrhosis on mortality at 365 days after index event. We identified 19,210 patients that met inclusion criteria using the TriNetX database, consisting of data from 58 large healthcare organizations collected between 1 January 2010 and 24 February 2022. Of those patients, 1,283 (3.

Emerging evidence regarding the effectiveness of locoregional therapies (LRTs) for breast cancer has prompted investigation of the potential role of interventional radiology (IR) in the care continuum of patients with breast cancer. The Society of Interventional Radiology Foundation invited 7 key opinion leaders to develop research priorities to delineate the role of LRTs in both primary and metastatic breast cancer. The objectives of the research consensus panel were to identify knowledge gaps and opportunities pertaining to the treatment of primary and metastatic breast cancer, establish priorities for future breast cancer LRT clinical trials, and highlight lead technologies that will improve breast cancer outcomes either alone or in combination with other therapies.

Objective: To assess lifetime cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk by coronary artery calcium (CAC) score in individuals with diabetes from the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA) and compare risk with that in individuals without diabetes.

Research Design And Methods: We developed a microsimulation model with well, diabetes, post-CVD, and death health states using multivariable time-dependent Cox regression with age as time scale. We initially used 10-year follow-up data of 6,769 MESA participants, including coronary heart disease (CHD) (n = 272), heart failure (n = 201), stroke (n = 186), and competing death (n = 619) and assessed predictive validity at 15 years.

Article Synopsis
  • West Virginia has the highest rates of obesity, smoking, and diabetes in the U.S., increasing the risk of stroke, particularly in rural areas facing socioeconomic and healthcare access challenges.
  • A study analyzing data from West Virginia's largest hospital (2000-2018) found significant geographic patterns of stroke incidence and mortality, identifying "hot spots" where rates were much higher than expected.
  • The results highlight that rural areas experience elevated stroke risk and mortality likely linked to socioeconomic factors and limited healthcare access, suggesting a need for targeted investments in healthcare infrastructure.

Objective: To present a large registry data assessing the association between myocarditis and mortality in patients with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection.

Patients And Methods: The researchers identified adult patients aged 18 to 90 years of age with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) diagnosis in the TriNetX (COVID-19 research network) database between January 20, 2020, and December 9, 2020. These patients were then divided into groups of those who had a positive myocarditis diagnosis and those who did not.

Article Synopsis
  • * An overview of PROMs, including their development and current options for vascular surgeons, was provided, along with survey results from Society for Vascular Surgery members about the barriers to using these measures in practice.
  • * Focus groups revealed key barriers to implementing PROMs, highlighting a general lack of awareness, understanding of their development and validation, and clarity on their clinical application among vascular surgeons.

Objective: To examine the utility of repeated computed tomography (CT) coronary artery calcium (CAC) testing, we assessed risks of detectable CAC and its cardiovascular consequences in individuals with and without type 2 diabetes ages 45-85 years.

Research Design And Methods: We included 5,836 individuals (618 with type 2 diabetes, 2,972 without baseline CAC) from the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis. With logistic and Cox regression we evaluated the impact of type 2 diabetes, diabetes treatment duration, and other predictors on prevalent and incident CAC.

Objectives: This study sought to quantify and model conversion of a normal coronary artery calcium (CAC) scan to an abnormal CAC scan.

Background: Although the absence of CAC is associated with excellent prognosis, progression to CAC >0 confers increased risk. The time interval for repeated scanning remains poorly defined.

There is no clear consensus on a lower cutoff value for normal left ventricular ejection fraction (EF) and the prognostic implications of low normal EF (LNEF) are poorly understood, particularly in Blacks. Therefore, we investigated the association of LNEF and incident heart failure (HF) in a community-based cohort of Blacks. We studied 3,669 participants (mean age 54 years, 63% women) of the Jackson Heart Study without prevalent HF or coronary heart disease (CHD).
