Purpose: Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) is a prevalent and distressing complication, especially in laparoscopic surgeries. This review compares the efficacy and safety of palonosetron and ondansetron in preventing PONV after laparoscopic surgery.
Methods: A systematic review was conducted in PubMed, Google Scholar, Semantic Scholar, and Cochrane Library to identify comparative studies that reported the efficacy (nausea and vomiting) at three postoperative time points T1 (0-2 hours), T2 (2-6 hours), T3 (6-24 hours) and safety (incidence of adverse effects).

Langer's lines, lines of cleavage, and biodynamic excisional skin tension (BEST) lines have been defined for cutaneous surgery to ensure excisional wound closure with the least tension on any part of the body and minimize scarring. This article describes nail unit incision lines (NUIL) with a similar perspective. NUIL are followed by nail surgeons to help regrowth of a normal nail; however, they are not widely understood or respected during nail surgery.

In heart failure, sympathetic overdrive is evidenced by norepinephrine spillover, receptor level changes, etc. Beta-blockers continue to be the cornerstone of treatment in patients with chronic heart failure due to their ability to counteract sympathetic overdrive. Extensive clinical research has demonstrated that long-term beta-blocker treatment with metoprolol succinate, carvedilol, or bisoprolol enhances left ventricular function and reverses left ventricular remodeling, decreases hospitalization risk, and increases survival.

Background and objective Radiation therapy plays a significant role in the radical treatment of locally advanced head and neck cancers. Studies have shown the radiobiological advantage of accelerated chemoradiation over conventional chemoradiation as it reduces the chances of accelerated repopulation and decreases overall treatment time. This study aimed to assess the response and toxicities of accelerated concomitant chemoradiation in locally advanced head and neck cancer patients.

Extubation is associated with hemodynamic changes and emergence phenomena leading to cough, sore throat, dysphonia, and dysphagia in the postoperative period. The aim of our study was to compare intracuff 2% alkalinized lignocaine with 1% alkalinized lignocaine and saline in reducing endotracheal tube induced emergence phenomena and haemodynamic changes at extubation in neurosurgical patients. In this randomized controlled study, 90 adult patients of either sex, scheduled to undergo neurosurgical procedures were randomly divided into three groups of 30 each to receive either 1% alkalinized lignocaine (AL1), 2% alkalinized lignocaine (AL2), or saline as cuff inflation media.

Ischemic necrosis of the bulbar urethra in a patient with pelvic fracture urethral injury without a prior history of surgical intervention is extremely rare and results in long-segment obliterative strictures that are difficult to manage. Instead of the more traditional approach of vascular reconstruction followed by transpubic end-to-end urethroplasty, these patients are better managed by up-front urethroplasty with a tubed flap or as a staged procedure with grafting and tubularization. Herein, we report a case of primary bulbar urethral ischemic necrosis due to pelvic fracture managed with tubularized preputial flap (McAninch flap) urethroplasty.

Introduction: The bladder is believed to be acontractile due to the phase of spinal shock and there is a lack of data on the detrusor function within the first few days after spinal cord injury (SCI). This study intended to assess the detrusor function with invasive urodynamics (UDS) during the first 15 days of SCI.
Methods: This prospective observational study was carried out from January 2020 to June 2021 and consecutive stable patients older than 18 years of age who had a history of traumatic SCI within the past 15 days were screened for inclusion.

Introduction: Treatment of nail psoriasis is challenging. Systemic therapies may be difficult to justify, while topical therapies may be sup-optimal. Triamcinolone acetonide (TA) injections are recommended as first-line therapy in cases with less than 3 nails involved; however, limited studies are available.

Importance: When a ProSeal laryngeal mask airway (PLMA) is removed with the child in a deep plane of anesthesia, the upper airway muscle tone and protective upper airway reflexes may be obtunded.
Objective: To determine whether the supine or lateral position is safer for the removal of a PLMA in deeply anesthetized children by comparing the incidence of upper airway complications.
Methods: This randomized single-blind comparative trial was conducted at a tertiary care hospital between January 2020 and September 2020.

The ultrasound diagnosis of a fetal intra-abdominal cyst is typically established during the second or third trimester in the majority of cases. They primarily arise from the gastrointestinal or genitourinary system during the development of intra-abdominal structure and if isolated may resolve spontaneously. Enteric or enterogenous or enteric duplication cysts, which are congenital developments from the intestine, are most common.

Hypothyroidism is the commonest endocrine disorder of pregnancy, with known adverse feto-maternal outcomes. There is limited data on population-based prevalence, risk factors and outcomes associated with treatment of hypothyroidism in early pregnancy. We conducted analysis on data from an urban and peri-urban low to mid socioeconomic population-based cohort of pregnant women in North Delhi, India to ascertain the burden, risk factors and impact of treatment, on adverse pregnancy outcomes- low birth weight, prematurity, small for gestational age and stillbirth.
