Article Synopsis
  • Orthodontists need to understand how the thickness of the infrazygomatic crest region varies with the maturation stage of patients, which can affect treatment outcomes.
  • A study analyzed 120 CBCT scans (60 male and 60 female) to measure bone thickness at five different locations in this region and correlated it with the cervical vertebrae maturation index (CVMI).
  • The results showed that bone thickness increased during the maturation stages but decreased during the completion stages, indicating a significant correlation with the CVM stages.

Bioinformation

April 2024

Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics, Terna Dental College and Hospital, Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, India.

The differences in the effects of orthodontic treatment on airway and craniocervical posture in patients with OSA (obstructive sleep apnea) having skeletal class II high-angle malocclusion is of interest. Hence, 48 individuals with OSA and skeletal class II high-angle malocclusion were chosen from among all patients in need of orthodontic therapy. Every patients had CBCT (cone beam computed tomography) taken both before and after receiving orthodontic therapy.

Apical root resorption, which is characterised as a biological or abnormal phenomenon that shortens the length of the root apex, is additional typical iatrogenic impact of orthodontic tooth movement that may jeopardise the effectiveness of treatment and tooth lifespan. The main goals of the current retrospective investigation were to assess the dimensions of alveolar bone alterations that come along with orthodontic movement and to look into the frequency and extent of resorption of root in maxillary incisors across categories that were similarly managed with clear aligners (OCA) and fixed appliances (OFA) using CBCT. The study included 50 subjects who were divided into two categories with 25 study subjects in each category.

Need For The Study: The mental branch of the trigeminal nerve, which supplies sensation to the lower lip, originates in the mandibular canal, making it an essential anatomical structure for dentists and oral surgeons to access. It is not well known that there is a spectrum of normal that includes variants in which there may be more than one nerve entry site, which means that if the mental foramen is not protected, normal feeling in the lower lip may be lost permanently. The diagnostic value of global radiographic landmarks like the mandibular trench and the dental foramen in identifying skeletal problems has been investigated.

Unlabelled: Four new dental replacement base tars were evaluated to determine their mechanical qualities, authentic properties, and biocompatibility.

Materials And Methods: In this experiment, we employed SR Triplet HOT (a fiber-developed heat fix tar), Sunflex (a multipurpose force fix sap), Trevalon-Hello (a high-impact heat fix tar), DPI (a digital pigment imaging system), and a variety of other pigments and inks (normal power fix tar). For these models, the ISO specification 1567 for dental substitute base gums called for testing of flexural strength, hardness, impact strength, water sorption and dissolvability, and cytotoxicity.
