Factors influencing the prescription of add-on long-acting muscarinic antagonists in real-world asthma management: Insights from a national registry.

Current guidelines recommend adding long-acting muscarinic antagonists (LAMAs) in patients with uncontrolled asthma, despite the use of moderate to high doses of inhaled steroid-long-acting beta agonists (ICS/LABA). This study aims to analyze the factors related to the prescription of add-on LAMA in clinical practice for asthma patients, shedding light on physicians' preferences. This study included adult asthma patients on add-on LAMA and ICS/LABA monitored for at least one year in a national registry comprising 2053 asthmatics.

Phenylketonuria: A Scoring System for Brain Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

Objective: The purpose of our study was to devise a new brain Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scoring system based on the Loes and modified Loes scores in phenylketonuria (PKU) patients.

Materials And Methods: The brain MRI scans of patients with late diagnosed PKU were evalu- ated retrospectively. Patients' age at diagnosis, age at which diet started, age at MRI, and, blood phenylalanine (Phe) levels at the time point closest to the MRI were recorded.

Background: While thyroid dysfunction develops in about 50% of untreated children with cystinosis, there is no data about how the sonography of thyroid tissue appears in this disease. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to assess the sonographic appearance, color doppler findings in this disease and to evaluate how cystine crystal accumulation affect tissue stiffness using shear wave elastography (SWE).

Methods: Sixteen children diagnosed with cystinosis and a control group consisting of 34 healthy children were included in this study.

Neonatal Resuscitation Practices in Turkey: A Survey of the Turkish Neonatal Society and the Union of European Neonatal and Perinatal Societies.

Objective: Optimal care in the delivery room is important to decrease neonatal morbidity and mortality. We aimed to evaluate neonatal resuscitation practices in Turkish centers.

Materials And Methods: A cross-sectional survey consisted of a 91-item questionnaire focused on delivery room practices in neonatal resuscitation and was sent to 50 Turkish centers.

Picturing asthma in Turkey: results from the Turkish adult asthma registry.

Introduction: National data on asthma characteristics and the factors associated with uncontrolled asthma seem to be necessary for every country. For this purpose, we developed the Turkish Adult Asthma Registry for patients with asthma aiming to take a snapshot of our patients, thereby assigning the unmet needs and niche areas of intervention.

Methods: Case entries were performed between March 2018 and March 2022.

The study included 5211 women having attended our unit for fetal anatomic screening and fetal echocardiography from August 2016 until February 2019. Interpeduncular Heterotopia and Brain Stem Cleft: An Isolated Finding Not Associated with Joubert Syndrome.

Interpeduncular heterotopia is a new neuroimaging finding reported in association with Joubert syndrome (JS) in a few cases in the literature. Nodular interpeduncular tissue was termed as interpeduncular heterotopia and anterior mesencephalic cap dysplasia in the literature in relation to gray and white matter content. We described the imaging findings and diffusion tensor imaging data of a case with interpeduncular heterotopia and brain stem cleft.

The aim of this study was to compare the rates of low folate status and vitB12 deficiency between pregnancies with a NTD-affected fetus and those with a structurally normal fetus in a low-income population residing in eastern Turkey. It was a retrospective cohort study conducted in our perinatology unit in eastern Turkey between 2016 and 2018. The inclusion criterion for the study group was pregnancies with an NTD-affected fetus.

Spontaneous Lens Absorption Initially Misdiagnosed as Crystalline Lens Luxation.

Spontaneous lens absorption (SLA) is a rare complication of hypermature cataract. However, this condition has been reported in several cases of hypermature cataracts that were caused by trauma, senility, uveitic disorders such as Fuchs’ uveitis syndrome (FUS), and infectious disorders including leptospirosis and rubella. We report a case of spontaneous absorption of a hypermature cataract secondary to FUS.

The current study examined the immunohistochemical expression levels of molecules on carcinogenesis pathway and evaluated their clinicopathologic significance in colorectal adenocarcinoma (CRA). A total of 189 CRA and 20 colonic mucosal tissue samples were evaluated by immunohistochemical staining using 38 antibodies targeting the known molecules that play roles in developmental pathways of various tumors. The immunoexpression data of the patients were compared to clinicopathologic parameters.

BACKGROUND The purpose of this study was to assess the values of the mean platelet volume (MPV) in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and with autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) to determine the risk of cardiovascular disease in these 2 disorder groups. A 3-cm Single-port Video-assisted Thoracoscopic Lobectomy for Lung Cancer.

Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery is advantageous over traditional surgical practices, because of a faster postoperative recovery period, less pain, and a shorter hospital length of stay. There is no single standard technique in the video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery approach. Although these "minimally invasive" resections are habitually performed through 3-port or 4-port incision, we performed a left lower lobectomy in a 54-year-old male patient for lung cancer, through a 3-cm single-port incision.

Is single port enough in minimally surgery for pneumothorax?

Background: Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery is a widespread used procedure for treatment of primary spontaneous pneumothorax patients. In this study, the adaptation of single-port video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery approach to primary spontaneous pneumothorax patients necessitating surgical treatment, with its pros and cons over the traditional two- or three-port approaches are examined.

Methods: Between January 2011 and August 2013, 146 primary spontaneous pneumothorax patients suitable for surgical treatment are evaluated prospectively.
