The Bezold-Jarisch reflex (BJR) is an inhibitory reflex characterized by bradycardia, hypotension, and apnea originating from ventricular mechanoreceptors. BJR is an uncommon but serious complication of neuraxial anesthesia. We present a case of a 33-year-old female undergoing combined spinal-epidural anesthesia prior to cesarean delivery who developed profound BJR, resulting in emergent actions.

In the United States, annual influenza vaccination is recommended for all persons aged ≥6 months. Using data from four vaccine effectiveness (VE) networks during the 2023-24 influenza season, interim influenza VE was estimated among patients aged ≥6 months with acute respiratory illness-associated medical encounters using a test-negative case-control study design. Among children and adolescents aged 6 months-17 years, VE against influenza-associated outpatient visits ranged from 59% to 67% and against influenza-associated hospitalization ranged from 52% to 61%.

Self-immolation, a form of self-harm involving setting oneself on fire, is associated with high mortality, morbidity, and healthcare burden. This study aimed to characterize potential clinical correlates and predisposing factors for self-immolation based on burn severity using TBSA percentage scoring. Additional objectives included identifying motivational elements, associated risk factors, and clinical characteristics to optimize patient care and reduce future self-immolation incidents.

Mpox, caused by infection with , usually presents as a mild, self-limited illness in immunocompetent persons that resolves within 2-4 weeks. Serious complications have been reported when mpox lesions involve vulnerable anatomic sites, such as the eye, and in those with substantial immunosuppression. We describe a patient with advanced human immunodeficiency virus infection and sustained viral shedding of mpox with ocular involvement, which resulted in vision loss.

Introduction The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) requires that residents in the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) residency observe or perform certain interventional procedures, one of which is an interlaminar epidural steroid injection (ILESI). While the traditional learning model relying heavily on observation is commonplace, it leaves the practice phase of learning to happen on real patients. High-fidelity simulation may be a worthwhile alternative as a training approach to increase physician comfort with the procedure and improve patient safety.

Burns to the hands constitute a small total surface area burn, but can result in significant functional challenges and disability. The complexity of multiple anatomical structures and intricate interplay of bones, muscles, and connective tissues requires specialized knowledge of how burns of the hand can affect function and independence. This article will provide an evidence-based overview of rehabilitation of the burned hand across the burn care continuum including a focus on evaluation, pain management, treatment interventions, and outcome assessment.
