Objective: Fetal growth is associated with long-term health yet no appropriate standards exist for the early identification of undergrown or overgrown fetuses. We sought to develop contemporary fetal growth standards for 4 self-identified US racial/ethnic groups.
Study Design: We recruited for prospective follow-up 2334 healthy women with low-risk, singleton pregnancies from 12 community and perinatal centers from July 2009 through January 2013.

Rationale: Current Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) strategy recommends the combination of two long-acting bronchodilators of different pharmacologic classes for the management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) if symptoms are not adequately controlled by a single bronchodilator.
Objectives: The FLIGHT1 and FLIGHT2 studies evaluated the efficacy and safety of QVA149 (indacaterol/glycopyrrolate), a fixed-dose combination of a long-acting β2-agonist (indacaterol) and a long-acting muscarinic antagonist (glycopyrrolate), compared with its monocomponents and placebo in patients with moderate-to-severe COPD.
Methods: FLIGHT1 and FLIGHT2 were 12-week, identical, multicenter, randomized, double-blind, parallel-group, placebo- and active-controlled studies.

Although the majority of patients with a chronic disease obtain information about their condition from a health care professional, medical appointments may not allow sufficient time for educating patients and addressing questions. Internet resources can fill educational gaps and promote knowledge transformation. In a 2010 Pew Research Center report, the presence of a chronic disease increased the likelihood that a person would search online for health information.

In our Center, from October 2009 to April 2013 we have had 17 pts treated for internal hernia on 412 LGBP (4.

It is essential to the future of radiology that our profession own and embrace the objectives and methodology of peer review. The authors describe a natural evolution of peer review away from measurement and error identification toward the goal of performance improvement for the entire profession by allowing everyone to learn from the mistakes of everyone else. This can be accomplished by a comprehensive program of reviewer education, cross-platform anonymous prospective data collection, third-party expert arbitration, and meaningful sharing of results with the entire body of radiologists and residency programs.

Colon cancer is a major problem in Western countries and complete surgical resection is the main treatment. Since its introduction the laparoscopic approach has been used to achieve bowel resection with a better postoperative course and better aesthetic outcomes. Initial concerns about the radicality of the resection and the oncologic outcomes have been overcome in the last decade.

Background: This guideline addressed VTE prevention in hospitalized medical patients, outpatients with cancer, the chronically immobilized, long-distance travelers, and those with asymptomatic thrombophilia.
Methods: This guideline follows methods described in Methodology for the Development of Antithrombotic Therapy and Prevention of Thrombosis Guidelines: Antithrombotic Therapy and Prevention of Thrombosis, 9th ed: American College of Chest Physicians Evidence-Based Clinical Practice Guidelines in this supplement.
Results: For acutely ill hospitalized medical patients at increased risk of thrombosis, we recommend anticoagulant thromboprophylaxis with low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH), low-dose unfractionated heparin (LDUH) bid, LDUH tid, or fondaparinux (Grade 1B) and suggest against extending the duration of thromboprophylaxis beyond the period of patient immobilization or acute hospital stay (Grade 2B).

Background: This study aimed to compare the short- and medium-term results obtained by totally laparoscopic right colectomy (TL) with those obtained by laparoscopically assisted right colectomy (LAC) for the treatment of right colon cancer.
Methods: A retrospective study compared two nonstatistically different groups (50 TL and 50 LAC cases) managed for nonmetastatic malignant tumors. The study outcomes included operative time, length of minilaparotomy, intraoperative complications, postoperative pain, time to resumption of the gastrointestinal functions, permanence of abdominal drain, analgesic therapy duration, postoperative complications, hospitalization time, number of harvested lymph nodes, and distant metastases onset.

A 48-year-old woman attended a physician because of a solitary cutaneous nodule on the left lower leg. Microscopic examination of the excisional specimen revealed a dermal tumor composed of nests of epithelioid cells exhibiting clear cytoplasm. They had centrally located vesicular nuclei with distinct nucleoli.

Professionalism in radiology is often talked about but seldom defined or formally instituted. Awareness of its value and adoption of its principles will be our best defense against the perils that lie ahead in radiology's new age.

Objective: Omentum transposition surgery (OT) applied to various neurodegenerative disorders has produced clinically significant improvement, which may be due to omentally-derived factors. To evaluate the clinical effect of left hemisphere OT in a primary progressive aphasia (PPA) patient, 3 year follow-up data were analysed.
Methods: Left hemisphere OT was performed on a 68-year-old male with PPA, characterized by moderate dementia and severe expressive aphasia with relatively preserved comprehension, object recognition and visual-spatial abilities.

Aims: Evidence suggests that thromboprophylaxis is still significantly underutilised across the United States despite its relationship with morbidity, mortality and resource expenditure. Previous randomised trials that have incorporated computerised reminders, through order-entry systems, have resulted in increased rates of thromboprophylaxis and lower incidences of clinically diagnosed deep-vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism. The primary purpose of this prospective, observational study is to evaluate the use and appropriateness of preset computerized thromboprophylaxis regimens for patients in a major county metropolitan hospital over a 1-month period by evaluating the proportion of patients actually receiving recommended thromboprophylaxis according to established hospital guidelines.

This study used a double-dissociation design to evaluate whether children with ADHD demonstrated specific deficits relative to children with Reading Disorders. Recent theory suggests that ADHD children have deficits in time perception and working memory, whereas RD children have deficits in phonological decoding. The performance of 113 clinic-referred children aged 6-11 was examined using measures of working memory, phonological processing, and time perception.

Over the past several years, vacuum-assisted closure has been used as an adjunctive treatment in the management of many chronic and acute wounds. A chart review of chronic wounds in the authors' wound care practice was conducted to ascertain and document the effect of vacuum-assisted closure on the healing of chronic wounds. Over a 30-month period, 70 patients with chronic, nonhealing wounds were treated with vacuum-assisted closure.

Skin graft donor sites are partial-thickness wounds that are commonly managed with gauze-type dressings. As such, they often cause more pain and difficulty in healing than the graft-recipient site. A retrospective study was conducted to ascertain the effects of using a castor oil-balsam of Peru-trypsin containing ointment on skin graft donor sites in 36 consecutive patients (16 female, 20 male).

Skin ulcers can be very painful and detrimental in patients with systemic sclerosis, or systemic scleroderma. A brief review of scleroderma skin ulcers is presented, as well as a case study that demonstrates the effectiveness of becaplermin gel supplemented by oral immunosuppressive agents in the treatment of ulcers resulting from systemic sclerosis. The time to healing (approximately 3 months) was comparable to that associated with the oral agents and surgical interventions specifically designed to help heal scleroderma ulcers.

A man with acute endocarditis developed complete heart block several days after the tricuspid and aortic valve replacement. Several weeks after implantation, his epimyocardial pacing leads developed a high threshold and failed to capture the ventricle at the maximal pulse width and output of the pacemaker. An angled-tip lead was placed in the middle cardiac vein for ventricular pacing.

The study examined the predictive utility of blame attributions for maltreatment. Integrating theory and research on blame attribution, it was predicted that self-blame would mediate or moderate internalizing problems, whereas other-blame would mediate or moderate externalizing problems. Mediator and moderator models were tested separately.
