Objectives: We evaluated the results of latissimus dorsi and teres major tendon transfer to the rotator cuff together with musculotendinous lengthening of the subscapularis and/or pectoralis major muscles in patients with internal rotation contracture and decreased external rotation and abduction secondary to obstetrical brachial plexus palsy.

Methods: Thirty patients (18 boys, 12 girls; mean age 9 years; range 4 to 15 years) with internal rotation contracture and loss of external rotation and abduction of the shoulder secondary to obstetrical brachial plexus palsy underwent transfer of the latissimus dorsi/teres major tendons to the rotator cuff. In addition, musculotendinous lengthening of the subscapularis and pectoralis major (n=15), pectoralis major (n=9), and subscapularis (n=6) were performed.

Idiopathic granulomatous mastitis (IGM) is an uncommon chronic inflammatory lesion of the breast with an uncertain optimal treatment regimen, the physical examination, and radiologic features of which may be confused with breast carcinoma. In this study, we aimed to describe the clinicopathologic characteristics of 33 patients who admitted to our breast policlinic and took the diagnosis of granulomatous (idiopathic and non-idiopathic) mastitis, and report the place of corticosteroids and the timing of surgery in the treatment of patients with IGM. The clinical features of 33 patients who presented to our breast policlinic with the complaint of breast mass and reached the final diagnosis of GM between March 2005 and October 2009 were reported.

Tubulovillous adenoma in the common bile duct causing obstructive jaundice.

Acta Gastroenterol Belg

March 2010

Vakif Gureba Training and Research Hospital, 2. General Surgery Clinic, Istanbul, Turkey.

Villous adenomas are benign epithelial lesions with a malignant potential which can occur at any site in the gastrointestinal tract, usually in the rectum and colon, less frequently in the small bowel and very rarely in the biliary tract. Villous adenomas of the extrahepatic bile ducts are exceptional and only a few cases have been reported. Common bile duct (CBD) adenomas often present in a fashion similar to their malignant counterparts, and adenocarcinoma arising from a villous adenoma of the ampullary biliary epithelium is also extremely rare.

Objectives: The specific aim of this study was to investigate the effects of chronic suppurative otitis media on the CTN.

Studies aimed at recovering the zone of stasis are one of the major issues of experimental burn studies. Hypoxia and oedema at that zone may cause irreversible changes. Due to anti-oedematous and antihypoxic effects of hyperbaric oxygen treatment (HBOT), it may be beneficial in recovering the zone of stasis.

Scleral fixation ofsulcus intraocular lenses is performed by most surgeons to correct aphakia in eyes with insufficient capsular support in which intraocular lenses cannot be implanted into the bag or sulcus. The implantation of foldable lenses maintains the advantages of small incision surgery, working with a closed system, less astigmatism, faster wound healing, and early visual rehabilitation. The authors describe a technique for using a single-piece hydrophilic foldable acrylic lens with no eyelets for scleral fixation.
