Status of IKZF1 Deletions in Diagnose and Relapsed Pediatric B-ALL Patients.

IKZF1 deletions (ΔIKZF1) are common in precursor B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL) and are assumed to have a prognostic impact. We aimed to determine the prognostic implications of ΔIKZF1 and CRLF2 overexpression in pediatric B-ALL. Furthermore, we sought to compare the multiplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay with standard multiplex ligand-dependent probe amplification (MLPA) methods to ascertain IKZF1 status in a clinical context.

Methylation of the ESR1 promoters in visceral adipose tissue and its relationship with obesity.

Background: Obesity is associated with decreased ESR1 expression level in visceral adipose tissue. However, it is unclear exactly what mechanisms are responsible for this decline. The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of aberrant methylation of the ESR1 alternative promoters on decreased ESR1 expression and its connection to obesity.

Birth outcomes in pregnant women with epilepsy: A Nationwide multicenter study from Türkiye.

Objective: The present study was aimed at investigating the effects of anti-seizure medications (ASMs), patient demographic characteristics, and the seizure type and frequency on the development of congenital malformations (CMs) in the infants of pregnant women with epilepsy (PWWE).

Methods: PWWE followed up at the neurology outpatient clinic of 21 centers between 2014 and 2019 were included in this prospective study. The follow-up of PWWE was conducted using structured, general pregnant follow-up forms prepared by the Pregnancy and Epilepsy Study Committee.

Background: In preclinical Alzheimer's disease, it is unclear why some individuals with amyloid pathologic change are asymptomatic (stage 1), whereas others experience subjective cognitive decline (SCD, stage 2). Methods: Retrospective, observational data collected by the Turkish ACTHIV-IST study group between May 2015 and December 2016 were analysed.

Expression of Akt1 and p-Akt1 in peripheral T cell subsets of multiple sclerosis patients.

Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune disorder induced by the infiltration of autoreactive immune cells into the central nervous system. Akt/PKB signaling pathway is crucially involved in T cell development and survival. We aimed to determine whether Akt1 expression levels of regulatory T (Treg) cells are altered in MS and are associated with disease activity.

Due to many biological cell functions of vitamin D including regulation of cell survival, proliferation and differentiation, the metabolism of itself gains importance in the development of several types of cancer. This case-control study was designed to evaluate the risk of gastric cancer development in terms of VDR rs2228570 & rs731236, and VDBP rs7041 polymorphisms, and serum levels of vitamin D. The study consists of 77 gastric cancer patients and 84 healthy individuals.

Prognostic Factors for Operated Gallbladder Cancer.

Purpose: The prognosis of gallbladder cancer is poor. Lymph node metastasis and the stage are known to be the strongest prognostic factors for survival. The aim of this study was to determine the importance of complementary surgery and other prognostic factors for survival of operated gallbladder cancer.

Does the Difficulty of Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy Differ Between Genders?

Some studies have shown that severe fibrosis and anatomical anomalies are more common in men, and subsequently, laparoscopic cholecystectomy is more difficult in male than female patients. We aimed to evaluate the effect of gender in patients who underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy, with regard to the conversion rate, the differences in histological inflammation severity, and anatomical difficulty. We reviewed retrospectively 915 patients with symptomatic cholelithiasis who underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy in the First Department of General Surgery at Vakif Gureba Training and Research Hospital.

The role of n-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate in the repair of traumatic diaphragmatic injuries.

Diaphragmatic injuries either by blunt or penetrating trauma require prompt surgical intervention and are often exigent to repair. N-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate (n-butyl-2-CA) is a tissue adhesive which has gained wide application in many areas of surgery including emergency. To repair the extensive injuries of the diaphragm it may be necessary the use of synthetic mesh by fixing it with sutures or staples.

The fate of suboptimal anastomosis after colon resection: An experimental study.

Background: The fate of suboptimal anastomosis is unknown and early detection of anastomotic leakage after colon resection is crucial for the proper management of patients.

Methods: Twenty-six rats were assigned to "Control", "Leakage" and "Suboptimal anastomosis" groups where they underwent either sham laparotomy, cecal ligation, and puncture or anastomosis with four sutures following colon resection, respectively. At the fifth hour and on the third and ninth days; peripheral blood and peritoneal washing samples through relaparotomy were obtained.

Effect of maternal age on pregnancy outcome and cesarean delivery rate.

Background: The aims of this retrospective study were to evaluate the maternal and prenatal outcomes between 35 years and older pregnancies and younger pregnancies, and the effects of the age of pregnancy, mother and newborn.

Methods: Pregnant women who gave birth in Vakif Gureba Training and Research Hospital, Clinic of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2006 were retrospectively screened. Pregnant women aged 35 years and over were included in this study and the pregnant women between age range of 30 - 34 years were included in the control group.

Evaluation of pachymetric measurements with scheimpflug photography-based system and optical coherence tomography pachymetry at different stages of keratoconus.

The aim of this study was to compare the central and peripheral pachymetric measurements determined with Sirius system and Visante OCT and evaluate the agreement between them at different stages of keratoconus. Measurements were not significantly different in all patients and subgroups and showed high correlation for the corneal thicknesses of the entire cornea in different stages of keratoconus.

Pilonidal sinus disease is a common disabling condition affecting the natal clefts of the buttocks. We analyze the role of fibrin glue in the treatment of selected patients with pilonidal sinus disease. Forty patients diagnosed with pilonidal sinus disease at Vakif Gureba Training and Research Hospital were treated between December 2007 and December 2011.

In this article, a new cartilage support derived from the cephalic border of lower lateral cartilages is used for the adjustment of tip rotation and projection, whereas improving supratip fullness is presented.

Recurrent squamous cell carcinoma arising in a neglected pilonidal sinus: report of a case and literature review.

Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is a rare complication observed mainly in chronic, recurrent and untreated primary pilonidal disease. It is associated with poor prognosis, and its recurrence rate after surgery is high. Here we present a patient diagnosed with SCC arising from a neglected pilonidal sinus.

The prevalence of fibromyalgia among patients with cervical radiculopathy due to cervical disc herniation: a pilot study.

Background: Cervical disc herniation (CDH) is the most common cause of cervical radiculopathy and could overlap with fibromyalgia (FM).

Objective: The primary aim of the present study was to investigate the prevalences of FM and widespread pain in patients with cervical radiculopathy diagnosed as CDH in a cross-sectional study. The secondary aim was to analyze the localization of tender points (TPs) and associated symptoms in these patients comparing patients with FM.

Cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis presenting with bilateral achilles tendon xanthomata: a case report.

Xanthomas are described as deposits in the skin and subcutaneous tissues. Mostly known as pseudotumors, xanthomas consist of connective tissue containing mainly cholesterol, triglycerides, and numerous foamy macrophages. Bilateral Achilles tendon xanthomata is pathognomonic for cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis in the case of normal cholesterol levels but increased cholestanol levels in serum.

Aim: Magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) has increasingly been used to evaluate the common bile duct. This study was to determine the role of MRCP instead of endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) in the management of patients with acute biliary pancreatitis.

Methods: A total of 81 patients with mild or moderate biliary pancreatitis who underwent MRCP and were treated in our department with selective ERCP between May 2001 and July 2007 were entered into a prospective database.
