This study explored the kinetics of ultrasonic extraction of polysaccharides (LP) from leaf (L), evaluated the in vitro bioactivity of L extracts and LP, and characterized the LP. A kinetic model was developed based on Fick's second law. A technique utilizing 400 W for 50 min was employed for the ultrasonic extraction of LP, with an optimal solid-liquid ratio established at 1:40 (g/mL).

Microneedles hold the potential for enabling shallow skin penetration applications where biomarkers are extracted from the interstitial fluid (ISF) and drugs are injected in a painless and effective manner. To this purpose, needles must have an inner channel. Channeled needles were demonstrated using custom silicon microtechnology, having several needle tip geometries.

Rationale: The stable isotope compositions of atmospheric CO can provide useful insight into various geochemical processes and carbon cycles on Earth, which is critical for understanding of Earth's changing climate. Here, we present a simple and cost-effective analytical method for the collection and measurement of carbon and oxygen isotope compositions of atmospheric CO.
Methods: Air samples of ~150 mL were collected individually or collectively using our simple active air collection system and then extracted on a vacuum purification line to remove noncondensable gases and atmospheric water vapor.

This work proposes, for the first time, the use of vacuum-assisted headspace solid phase microextraction (Vac-HS-SPME) for studying the free volatiles in tomato fruits. Initially, a comparative optimization between Vac-HS-SPME and regular HS-SPME was conducted, examining the effects of sampling time (15-60 min) and temperature (40 and 60°C) on the extraction of 29 target compounds from tomato puree samples. Compared to regular HS-SPME, sampling under vacuum resulted in the detection of nine additional analytes at 40°C, and an extra three at 60°C.

Current photovoltaic (PV) panels typically contain interconnected solar cells that are vacuum laminated with a polymer encapsulant between two pieces of glass or glass with a polymer backsheet. This packaging approach is ubiquitous in conventional photovoltaic technologies such as silicon and thin-film solar modules, contributing to thermal management, mechanical reinforcement, and environmental protection to enable the long lifetimes necessary to become financially acceptable. Commercial vacuum lamination processes typically occur at 150 °C to ensure cross-linking and/or glass bonding of the encapsulant to the glass and PV cells.

This study investigates the toxicity of bioactive compounds isolated from the halophytic plant Halocnemum strobilaceum against A549 lung cancer cells. Sequential extraction using petroleum ether, chloroform, and methanol yielded various fractions, with the petroleum ether extract demonstrating the highest cytotoxicity. Through bioassay-guided fractionation and isolation techniques, including vacuum liquid chromatography and column chromatography, three compounds were identified: (1) Di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate, (2) isorhamnetin-3-glucoside, and (3) quercetin-3-glucoside.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of drying process preparations, solvent type, and different species of spp. (European, Japanese, and cherry plums) on bioactive properties (antioxidant, anti-lipid peroxidation, anti-tyrosinase, and anti-inflammatory activities) and rutin content. Leaves and fresh fruits of plums were dried using a cold process (vacuum freeze dryer at -105 ± 5°C) and a hot process (hot air oven at 50 ± 0.

Drying technology plays a pivotal role in tea processing. Herein, the differences in color, non-volatile, and volatile components of green tea under various drying methods were investigated. The results indicated that vacuum freeze-microwave increased the and values, and decreased the values of tea leaves.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe non-Hermiticity in the optical trapping and binding originates from their open nature. Once the non-Hermiticity is sufficiently large such that it pushes the system across the exceptional point, the non-Hermitian force will provide an effective gain to the systems. In this scenario, the trapped particles acquire additional energies as a consequence of the non-Hermitian force field, which effectively serve as a gain.

We developed a method for comprehensive urine drug screening by applying dilute-and-shoot extraction and vacuum-insulated probe-heated electrospray ionization with ultra-high performance liquid chromatography high-resolution quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (DS-UHPLC-VIP-HESI-QTOFMS). The method involved five-fold post-hydrolysis dilution of urine samples and chromatography on a C18 UHPLC column prior to QTOFMS analysis. The recently introduced VIP-HESI ion source was chosen due to its enhanced ionization efficiency and compatibility with UHPLC-QTOFMS.

Methods such as gas stripping and vacuum-assisted gas stripping (VAGS) result in significant removal of water from the bioreactor, thus requiring continuous water replenishment in the bioreactor. In this study, we developed a hydrophobic stainless steel meshes capable of selectively recovering concentrated ABE stream from the bioreactor during VAGS. Three stainless steel meshes with pore sizes of 180 µm, 300 µm, and 425 µm were made hydrophobic and oleophilic with zinc oxide (ZnO) and polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS).

Clinical misdiagnosis between cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) and basal cell carcinoma (BCC) affects treatment plans. We report a tissue sampling approach with molecular biopsy using electroporation. This method, coined electroporation-based biopsy (e-biopsy), enables nondestructive nonthermal permeabilization of cells in the skin for vacuum-assisted extraction of biomolecules.

In the course of childbirth, if complications arise during the expulsion of the fetus, instruments can be employed to facilitate delivery. The vacuum extractor, or ventouse, is considered a relatively safe tool associated with a low rate of complications and mortality. However, it is crucial that the instrument be applied in the correct position and that the pulling force is not excessive to minimize damage to the fetal cranial structures.

Covalent organic structures (MOFs), known for their exceptional properties in separation and purification, have garnered significant attention. However, applying MOF-based adsorbents in complex flavonoid separation scenarios remains challenging. In this study, we successfully synthesized adsorbent materials capable of efficiently adsorbing flavonoids using a vacuum freeze-drying method.

Based on the characteristics of Kummell's disease (KD) and related anatomical structures of the thoracolumbar spine, a novel bone cement screw system has been designed to effectively avoid the cement loosening and displacement. This experiment aimed to assess the biological effects of the novel bone cement screw system in KD on fresh cadaveric thoracolumbar spine specimens, thereby discussing its potential application value and providing a foundation for clinical implementation. This study employed a total of 50 fresh female adult cadaver specimens.

MonoTrap was introduced in 2009 as a novel miniaturized configuration for sorptive sampling. The method for the characterization of volatile organic compound (VOC) emission profiles from hot mix asphalt (HMA) consisted of a two-step procedure: the analytes, initially adsorbed into the coating in no vacuum- or vacuum-assistance mode, were then analyzed following an automated thermal desorption (TD) step. We took advantage of the theoretical formulation to reach some conclusions on the relationship between the physical characteristics of the monolithic material and uptake rates.

Rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs) offer valuable diagnostic information in a quick, easy-to-use and low-cost format. While RDTs are one of the most commonly used tools for in vitro diagnostic testing, they require the collection of a blood sample, which is painful, poses risks of infection and can lead to complications. We introduce a blood-free point-of-care diagnostic test for the rapid detection of protein biomarkers in dermal interstitial fluid (ISF).
