Objectives: This study assessed the real-world relative vaccine effectiveness of the ChAdOx1/AZD1222 vaccine given intradermally at one-fifth dose compared to the standard intramuscular injection, following the completion of 2 doses of CoronaVac, due to limited vaccine availability in Thailand during the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

Method: This retrospective cohort study used 138,264 records from Vachira Phuket Hospital, Phuket, Thailand. The records were divided into 2 groups: 49,387 recipients received one-fifth doses via intradermal injections, and 88,877 recipients received standard-dose intramuscular injections from September 14 to October 3, 2021, with follow-up until December 31, 2021.

Background & Aims: High-dose proton pump inhibitor (PPI) therapy has been recommended to prevent rebleeding of high-risk peptic ulcer (PU) after hemostasis. Vonoprazan has been proven to be noninferior to PPIs in various acid-related diseases. This study aimed to compare the efficacy of vonoprazan vs PPI for preventing high-risk PU rebleeding after hemostasis.

Background: Recognizing the significance of effective communication in raising emergency department service standards and preventing misinterpretation of patient needs among registered nurses is crucial for improving patient satisfaction. The utilization of the AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, and Thank you) communication framework is acknowledged to enhance communication among registered nurses, patients, family members, and other healthcare professionals.

Objective: This study aimed to explore Thai nurses' experiences in applying the AIDET framework for communications with patients and their relatives in the emergency department.

We report an autochthonous case of simple, localized cutaneous leishmaniasis in a healthy 18-month-old girl from southern Thailand. The patient presented with a solitary chronic cutaneous nodular lesion on her left cheek for approximately 1 year. Histopathological dissection of the cheek skin biopsy demonstrated remarkably nodular and interstitial infiltrates of lymphocytes and histiocytes full of intracellular oval-shaped amastigotes, consistent with cutaneous leishmaniasis.

The types of β-thalassemia mutations, α-thalassemia interactions, and Hb F-associated SNPs have been described in association with variable disease phenotypes. This study aimed to determine the updated spectrum of β-thalassemia mutations and evaluate the contribution of primary and secondary genetic modifiers and SNPs to disease severity, age at onset, and predicted life expectancy in southern Thai β-thalassemia patients. A total of 181 β-thalassemia patients were enrolled and 135 β-thalassemia/Hb E patients without α-thalassemia interactions were divided into three categories according to disease severity, age at onset, and predicted life expectancy.

Calcium alkali syndrome (CAS), a relatively unusual etiology of hypercalcemia, is characterized by a classical triad of hypercalcemia, azotemia, and metabolic alkalosis. This condition has been described in patients who have taken an excess dose of calcium with an alkali or with a volume-depletion status. To diagnose CAS it requires a high index of suspicion and a detailed history of medication/supplement intake specifically for calcium-containing drugs and a history of all possible ingested alkali.

Immediate return of fertility function following a bariatric surgery: A case report.

J Obstet Gynaecol Res

October 2019

Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism, Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand.

Obesity in women of childbearing age is linked to lower fertility rates due to chronic oligoovulation and anovulation. Effective weight loss treatment such as bariatric surgery can improve fertility potential. However, pregnancy during the first 12 months after bariatric surgery should be avoided due to an active catabolic state and may increase the potential risk of fetal growth restriction.

Treatment of people living with HIV (PLHIV) with latent tuberculosis (TB) infection using isoniazid preventive therapy (IPT) can reduce the risk of TB disease, however, the scale-up of IPT among PLHIV in Thailand and worldwide has been slow. To hasten the implementation of IPT in Thailand, we developed IPT implementation training curricula and tools for health care providers and implemented IPT services in seven large government hospitals. Of the 659 PLHIV enrolled, 272 (41.

Context: The deposition of extracellular matrix is a major pathogenic mechanism leading to fibrosis and progressive decline in renal function in patients with lupus nephritis (LN). Currently, available clinicopathologic features cannot predict renal outcome consistently.

Objective: To test that the expression of renal fibrogenic genes correlates with renal fibrosis at the time of biopsy and is predictive of renal outcomes.

Blood transfusion can be a life-saving therapy for β-thalassemia major and β-thalassemia/HbE (β-TM) patients with chronic anemia, major caused severe iron overload particularly in β-TM patients received only blood transfusion therapy. We aim to evaluate the association of iron overload with oxidative stress, liver damage, and elevated very low density lipoprotein cholesterol (VLDL-C) in transfusion-dependent β-TM patients. Serum ferritin, malondialdehyde (MDA), liver profiles, triglycerides levels, and VLDL-C were significantly higher while total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, high density lipoprotein cholesterol and total antioxidant capacity were lower in β-TM than controls.
