Applying nano-delivery systems for phytohormones via foliar application has proven effective in reducing grain cadmium (Cd) levels in crops. However, the mechanisms underlying this reduction remain inadequately understood. This study integrated the determination of leaf photosynthetic parameters, Cd translocation analysis, and metabolomics to elucidate the effects of reduced glutathione (GSH) and melatonin (MT), delivered with or without chitosan-encapsulated mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSN-CS), on grain Cd levels in rice.

Predicting the coefficient of volume compressibility (m) would help a field engineer to make a quick estimate of the soil compressibility. The multiple correlations suggested by various researchers as available in the literature indicate the importance of predicting the m of soil. The existing correlations as available in literature either use soil state (in the form of SPT N-value or unconfined compressive strength or natural water content) or soil type (in the form of plasticity properties).

Conceptual Framework: The Surgical Pause is a rapid, scalable strategy for health care systems to optimize perioperative outcomes for high-risk, frail patients considering elective surgery. The first and most important step is to screen for frailty, thereby identifying the 5% to 10% of patients at most risk for postoperative complications, loss of independence, institutionalization, and mortality. The second step is to take action to improve outcomes.

Background: The mentalization-based perspective of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) underscores fluctuating interpersonal functionality, believed to arise from suboptimal mentalization modes, including hyper- and hypomentalizing. The connection between ineffective mentalizing and specific BPD challenges remains ambiguous. Network theory offers a unique means to investigate the hypothesis that distinct yet interconnected mental challenges ('symptoms') construct 'disorders' through their continuous mutual interactions.

Hydrogels composed of collagen, the most abundant protein in the human body, are widely used as scaffolds for tissue engineering due to their ability to support cellular activity. However, collagen hydrogels with encapsulated cells often experience bulk contraction due to cell-generated forces, and conventional strategies to mitigate this undesired deformation often compromise either the fibrillar microstructure or cytocompatibility of the collagen. To support the spreading of encapsulated cells while preserving the structural integrity of the gels, we present an interpenetrating network (IPN) of two distinct collagen networks with different crosslinking mechanisms and microstructures.

Context: Athletes with a history of concussion (CON) have been demonstrated to have heightened levels of anxiety and depression that may continue well beyond the resolution of concussion symptoms. The global events of 2020 resulted in elevated levels of anxiety and depression in the general population, which may have unequally presented in collegiate athletes with (CON) than those without a history of concussion (NoCON). Using a deception design, our survey-based study compared levels of anxiety and depression in CON and NoCON collegiate athletes in response to the pandemic and social injustices.

AMPK's role in tumor initiation and progression is controversial. Here, we provide genetic evidence that AMPK is required for metastasis in mouse models of breast cancer. In a mouse model of spontaneous breast cancer metastasis, the deletion of AMPK before and after tumor onset decreased breast cancer metastasis, and similar results were obtained after AMPK deletion in breast cancer cell lines.
