Objectives: To explore the need for a specialization in clinical pharmacy and the model to be adopted, as perceived by Portuguese stakeholders.
Methods: A nominal group technique through two online meetings addressed four questions: pros and cons of specialization models used internationally; preferred model for Portugal; and success factors for implementation.
Key Findings: All nine stakeholders recognized the need to train pharmacists in clinical pharmacy and agreed specialization is essential, through a model including strong clinical undergraduate education, supplemented with postgraduate training.

The mutations driving cancer are being increasingly exposed through tumor-specific genomic data. However, differentiating between cancer-causing driver mutations and random passenger mutations remains challenging. State-of-the-art homology-based predictors contain built-in biases and are often ill-suited to the intricacies of cancer biology.

Whole genome sequencing (WGS) marks a turning point for outbreak investigations for microorganisms related to public health matters, like Legionella pneumophila (Lp). Here, we evaluated the available Lp WGS typing tools for isolates of previously documented Belgian outbreaks, as well as small groups of related and non-related isolates. One reference strain and 77 clinical and environmental isolates were evaluated.

Background: There are no active treatment options for patients with progressive melanoma brain metastases (MBM) failing immune checkpoint blockade (ICB) and BRAF/MEK inhibitors (BRAF/MEKi). Regorafenib (REGO), an oral multi-kinase inhibitor (incl. RAF-dimer inhibition), can overcome adaptive resistance to BRAF/MEKi in preclinical models.

The Artemis program and lunar gateway present an opportunity to advance NASA's presence away from Earth's orbit and back to the Moon. Astronauts will be faced with many dermatological challenges unique to the lunar environment, such as the surface material on the Moon. We used PubMed and Google Scholar to perform a literature review with articles related to the effects of lunar dust on skin collated and analyzed to assess the dermatological implications of these missions.

Background: Advanced education of midwives acting during the first 1000 days in life is key in optimum care provision for intergenerational health and wellbeing.
Aim: This paper provides a comprehensive analysis of the current context of midwifery care and (inter)national trends in midwifery education. Gaps for optimizing midwifery education in Belgium are defined.

In an elderly patient with a history of atypical, intermittent medial thigh pain presenting with signs of intestinal obstruction, entrapment of bowel loops in an obturator hernia should be included in the differential diagnosis and should be further elaborated by computed tomography (CT).

Background: The long-term effectiveness of immunotherapies against Multiple Myeloma (MM) remains elusive, demonstrated by the inevitable relapse in patients. This underscores the urgent need for an in-depth analysis of the MM tumor-immune microenvironment (TME). Hereto, a representative immunocompetent MM mouse model can offer a valuable approach to study the dynamic changes within the MM-TME and to uncover potential resistance mechanisms hampering effective and durable therapeutic strategies in MM.

In several orthopedic procedures, the accurate use of surgical power tools is critical to avoid damage to surrounding tissues. As such, various guidance techniques and safety measures were developed. Augmented reality (AR) guidance shows promise but requires validation.

Until recently, treatment options for patients diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) were limited and predominantly relied on various combinations, dosages, or schedules of traditional chemotherapeutic agents. Patients with advanced age, relapsed/refractory disease or comorbidities were often left without effective treatment options. Novel advances in the understanding of leukemogenesis at the molecular and genetic levels, alongside recent progress in drug development, have resulted in the emergence of novel therapeutic agents and strategies for AML patients.

The use of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) in cancer treatment is expanding, offering promising outcomes but with an important risk of immune-related adverse events (irAEs). These events, stemming from an overstimulated immune system attacking healthy cells, can necessitate immunosuppressant treatment, disrupt treatment courses, and impact patients' quality of life. The analysis of ICI efficacy data has led to a better understanding of the characteristics of responders.

Background: Radiofluorination of single domain antibodies (sdAbs) via N-succinimidyl-4-[F]fluorobenzoate ([F]SFB) has shown to be a promising strategy in the development of sdAb-based PET tracers. While automation of the prosthetic group (PG) [F]SFB production, has been successfully reported, no practical method for large scale sdAb labelling has been reported. Therefore, we optimized and automated the PG production, enabling a subsequently efficient manual conjugation reaction to an anti-fibroblast activation protein (FAP)-α sdAb (4AH29) and an anti-folate receptor (FR)-α sdAb (2BD42).

In the German Ordinance on Occupational Diseases (BKV), there are currently 82 occupational diseases listed, of which 18 partially or completely fall within the field of ENT medicine due to the associated health disorders. Noise-induced hearing loss is usually the focus of attention for the ENT specialist, but it has long since ceased to be the only occupational disease. In order to help uncover possible causalities between occupational noxious substances and diseases, it is important that physicians report their own observations and new scientific findings regarding suspected cases to the German Social Accident Insurance, especially in situations where cancer may be linked to occupational influences.

Background: Recent studies indicate an association between immunosuppression for immune-related adverse events (irAEs) and impaired survival in patients who received immune checkpoint inhibitors. Whether this is related to corticosteroids or second-line immunosuppressants is unknown. In the largest cohort thus far, we assessed the association of immunosuppressant type and dose with survival in melanoma patients with irAEs.

Background: Among the 10% of pancreatic cancers that occur in a familial context, around a third carry a pathogenic variant in a cancer predisposition gene. Genetic studies of pancreatic cancer predisposition are limited by high mortality rates amongst index patients and other affected family members. The genetic risk for pancreatic cancer is often shared with breast cancer susceptibility genes, most notably BRCA2, PALB2, ATM and BRCA1.

Aims: Transthoracic echocardiography is recommended in all patients with acute coronary syndrome but is time-consuming and lacks an evidence base. We aimed to assess the feasibility, diagnostic accuracy, and time efficiency of hand-held echocardiography in patients with acute coronary syndrome and describe the impact of echocardiography on clinical management in this setting.
Methods And Results: Patients with acute coronary syndrome underwent both hand-held and transthoracic echocardiographies with agreement between key imaging parameters assessed using kappa statistics.

Aims: There is an increasing awareness of the evidence-based selection of outcomes to be measured in clinical trials and clinical practice. Currently, there is no core outcome set (COS) for cardio-oncology, which may hinder the (inter)national comparison of the effectiveness of research and the quality of cardio-oncology care. The aim of this study is to develop a standard and pragmatic patient-centred outcome set to assess and monitor cancer patients and survivors at risk of or with cardiovascular diseases.

can cause a large panel of symptoms besides the classic pneumonia presentation. Here we present a case of fatal nosocomial cellulitis in an immunocompromised patient followed, a year later, by a second case of Legionnaires' disease in the same ward. While the first case was easily assumed as nosocomial based on the date of symptom onset, the second case required clear typing results to be assigned either as nosocomial and related to the same environmental source as the first case, or community acquired.

Over the last decades, the survival of multiple myeloma (MM) patients has considerably improved. However, despite the availability of new treatments, most patients still relapse and become therapy-resistant at some point in the disease evolution. The mutation profile has an impact on MM patients' outcome, while typically evolving over time.
