The AIP model as a theoretical framework for the treatment of personality disorders with EMDR therapy.

Research has shown that the impact of traumatic events and circumstances on individuals is cumulative and potentially has a wide range of harmful consequences, including negative consequences on mental health. One such consequence is the development of a personality disorder, a persistent mental condition characterized by a pronounced pattern of difficulties in impulse control, emotional regulation, cognitive functions, self-esteem, and interpersonal relationships. A wide array of studies indicates that the personal history of individuals with a personality disorder is often marked by exposure to traumatic events or other types of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs).

Effectiveness of strategies to suppress antibodies to infliximab in pediatric inflammatory bowel disease.

Objectives: Antibodies to infliximab (ATIs) are associated with loss of response in children with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). We aimed to describe the effectiveness of strategies for treatment modification following ATI development in pediatric IBD: (1) treatment escalation; and (2) switching to another anti-TNF agent.

Methods: This multicenter retrospective study included children with IBD (4-18 years) on infliximab.

State of the science: Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy.

Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an evidence-based psychotherapy for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), with support from more than 30 published randomized controlled trials (RCTs) demonstrating its effectiveness in both adults and children. Most international clinical practice guidelines recommend EMDR therapy as a first-line treatment for PTSD. This paper describes the current state of the evidence for EMDR therapy.

Coastal adaptation and migration dynamics under future shoreline changes.

In this study, we present a novel modeling framework that provides a stylized representation of coastal adaptation and migration dynamics under sea level rise (SLR). We develop an agent-based model that simulates household and government agents adapting to shoreline change and increasing coastal flood risk. This model is coupled to a gravity-based model of migration to simulate coastward migration.

Spatiotemporal patterns and drivers of the urban air pollution island effect for 2273 cities in China.

Air pollution levels tend to be higher in urban areas than in surrounding rural areas, and this air pollution has a negative effect on human health. However, the spatiotemporal patterns of urban-rural air pollution differences and the determinants of these differences remain unclear. Here, we calculate the Urban Air Pollution Island (UAPI) intensity for PM and PM on a monthly, seasonal, and annual scale for 2273 cities in China from 2000 to 2020.

Measurement of CP Violation in B^{0}→ψ(→ℓ^{+}ℓ^{-})K_{S}^{0}(→π^{+}π^{-}) Decays.

A measurement of time-dependent CP violation in the decays of B^{0} and B[over ¯]^{0} mesons to the final states J/ψ(→μ^{+}μ^{-})K_{S}^{0}, ψ(2S)(→μ^{+}μ^{-})K_{S}^{0} and J/ψ(→e^{+}e^{-})K_{S}^{0} with K_{S}^{0}→π^{+}π^{-} is presented. The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 6  fb^{-1} collected at a center-of-mass energy of sqrt[s]=13  TeV with the LHCb detector. The CP-violation parameters are measured to be S_{ψK_{S}^{0}}=0.

Appraising biocultural approaches to sustainability in the scientific literature in Spanish.

Biocultural approaches that acknowledge the multiple and dynamic relationships between the diversity of cultures and nature are growing in popularity in sustainability research. Scientific contributions to biocultural approaches written in Spanish are numerous, including influential work on biocultural memory, biocultural heritage and biocultural ethics. However, despite linguistic diversity being considered essential in knowledge production for assuring broad and balanced evidence to successfully cope with sustainability challenges, non-English literature is rarely reviewed and taken into account in English-language scientific knowledge production and publications.

Rasal1 regulates calcium dependent neuronal maturation by modifying microtubule dynamics.

Background: Rasal1 is a Ras GTPase-activating protein which contains C2 domains necessary for dynamic membrane association following intracellular calcium elevation. Membrane-bound Rasal1 inactivates Ras signaling through its RasGAP activity, and through such mechanisms has been implicated in regulating various cellular functions in the context of tumors. Although highly expressed in the brain, the contribution of Rasal1 to neuronal development and function has yet to be explored.

SARS-CoV-2 infection causes dopaminergic neuron senescence.

COVID-19 patients commonly present with signs of central nervous system and/or peripheral nervous system dysfunction. Here, we show that midbrain dopamine (DA) neurons derived from human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) are selectively susceptible and permissive to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. SARS-CoV-2 infection of DA neurons triggers an inflammatory and cellular senescence response.

Feasibility and effectiveness of communication tools for addressing intimacy and sexuality in patients with cancer: a systematic review.

Purpose: Patients diagnosed with cancer might experience changes in intimacy and sexuality due to the illness itself, treatment, or psychological and social factors. Healthcare professionals (HCPs) often feel reluctant to discuss these changes. This study aimed to provide an overview of the feasibility and effectiveness of communication tools that support communication regarding changes in intimacy or sexuality among patients with cancer.

Neurofilament light protein as a biomarker for spinal muscular atrophy: a review and reference ranges.

Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is the leading genetic cause of infant mortality, characterized by progressive neuromuscular degeneration resulting from mutations in the survival motor neuron () gene. The availability of disease-modifying therapies for SMA therapies highlights the pressing need for easily accessible and cost-effective blood biomarkers to monitor treatment response and for better disease management. Additionally, the wide implementation of newborn genetic screening programs in Western countries enables presymptomatic diagnosis of SMA and immediate treatment administration.

Single-cell investigative genetics: Single-cell data produces genotype distributions concentrated at the true genotype across all mixture complexities.

In the absence of a suspect the forensic aim is investigative, and the focus is one of discerning what genotypes best explain the evidence. In traditional systems, the list of candidate genotypes may become vast if the sample contains DNA from many donors or the information from a minor contributor is swamped by that of major contributors, leading to lower evidential value for a true donor's contribution and, as a result, possibly overlooked or inefficient investigative leads. Recent developments in single-cell analysis offer a way forward, by producing data capable of discriminating genotypes.

Experience shapes chandelier cell function and structure in the visual cortex.

Detailed characterization of interneuron types in primary visual cortex (V1) has greatly contributed to understanding visual perception, yet the role of chandelier cells (ChCs) in visual processing remains poorly characterized. Using viral tracing we found that V1 ChCs predominantly receive monosynaptic input from local layer 5 pyramidal cells and higher-order cortical regions. Two-photon calcium imaging and convolutional neural network modeling revealed that ChCs are visually responsive but weakly selective for stimulus content.

Is the use of diagnostic imaging and the self-reported clinical management of low back pain patients influenced by the attitudes and beliefs of chiropractors? A survey of chiropractors in the Netherlands and Belgium.

Background: No previous studies have examined the association between attitudes and beliefs of chiropractors and their adherence to low back pain (LBP) guidelines. The aim of this study is: (1) to assess the attitudes and beliefs towards the management of LBP of Dutch and Belgian chiropractors; and (2) to investigate the association of these attitudes and beliefs on the use of diagnostic imaging and on the adherence to diagnostic guidelines and guidelines in the management of patients with LBP.

Methods: STUDY DESIGN: Cross-sectional study using a web-based questionnaire in chiropractic private practices in the Netherlands and Belgium.

Case report: Brief, intensive EMDR therapy for borderline personality disorder: results of two case studies with one year follow-up.

Background: Exposure to adverse childhood events plays an important role in the development of borderline personality disorder (BPD). Emerging evidence suggests that trauma-focused therapy using eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be beneficial for patients with BPD symptoms. To date, the effects of brief, intensive EMDR treatment for this target group have not been investigated in this population.

Inclusive leadership in the health professions and health professions education.

WHAT IS INCLUSION AND INCLUSIVE LEADERSHIP?: In this article, based on the literature and my own experiences, I try to shed light on the concepts of inclusion and inclusive leadership, as well as what leaders need to do in order to be inclusive. Inclusion means the act of including or being included in a group, which creates a sense of belonging as well as empowers individuals to contribute in an authentic and meaningful manner. Inclusive leadership is important in the health professions and health professions education so that health professionals and faculty in health professions education are able to contribute to their work in ways that they find meaningful.

The coincidence of climate extremes with sensitive crop growth phases: Projected impact on sustainable crop water use and crop yield in the IGB river basins.

Increased climate variability and extremes are unequivocal with unprecedented impacts on water resources and agriculture production systems. However, little is known about the impacts of climate extremes at the intra-seasonal level which remained largely unexplored. We investigated the coincidence of climate extremes with sensitive crop growth phases of wheat and rice in the Indus, Ganges and Brahmaputra (IGB) river basins of South Asia.

Associations of 25-Hydroxyvitamin D Status and Supplementation with Adverse Outcomes in Geriatric Rehabilitation Inpatients: RESORT.

Objectives: Geriatric rehabilitation inpatients are at a higher risk of 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D) deficiency due to poor nutrition and low sunlight exposure. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of 25-hydroxyvitamin (25(OH)D) deficiency and supplementation and to investigate their association with adverse health outcomes in geriatric rehabilitation inpatients.

Design: Prospective, observational and longitudinal study.

Phosphoprotein dynamics of interacting T cells and tumor cells by HySic.

Functional interactions between cytotoxic T cells and tumor cells are central to anti-cancer immunity. However, our understanding of the proteins involved is limited. Here, we present HySic (hybrid quantification of stable isotope labeling by amino acids in cell culture [SILAC]-labeled interacting cells) as a method to quantify protein and phosphorylation dynamics between and within physically interacting cells.

The minimally important difference for the Xerostomia Inventory among Sjögren's disease patients.

Objective: Until now, the clinically relevant improvement for the Xerostomia Inventory (XI) has not been defined. Therefore, our aim was to determine the Minimally Important Difference (MID) of the XI for improvement in dry-mouth symptoms in SjD patients.

Method: The study recruited 34 SjD patients who underwent sialendoscopy of major salivary glands and 15 SjD patients in a nonintervention control group.

Course of objectively measured physical activity and sleep in postmenopausal breast cancer survivors during the COVID-19 pandemic: A 1-year follow-up.

Background: As physical inactivity and poor sleep quality may impose additional risk for cancer recurrence and overall mortality in postmenopausal breast cancer (PMBC) survivors, it is important to gain insight into the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on their physical activity (PA) and sleep level.

Objective: This study aimed to assess the course of their physical activity (PA) and sleep throughout governmental measures against COVID-19 during 12 months of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Methods: PMBC survivors (n = 96) wore an ActiGraph wGT3X-BT for seven consecutive days at 12 and 18 months after diagnosis and additional measurements were taken after onset of the second (partial) COVID-19 lockdown.

Balanced Epigenetic Regulation of MHC Class I Expression in Tumor Cells by the Histone Ubiquitin Modifiers BAP1 and PCGF1.

MHC class I (MHC-I) molecules are critical for CD8+ T cell responses to viral infections and malignant cells, and tumors can downregulate MHC-I expression to promote immune evasion. In this study, using a genome-wide CRISPR screen on a human melanoma cell line, we identified the polycomb repressive complex 1 (PRC1) subunit PCGF1 and the deubiquitinating enzyme BAP1 as opposite regulators of MHC-I transcription. PCGF1 facilitates deposition of ubiquitin at H2AK119 at the MHC-I promoters to silence MHC-I, whereas BAP1 removes this modification to restore MHC-I expression.

The relationship between emotional self-awareness, emotion regulation, and diabetes distress among Italian and Dutch adults with type 1 diabetes.

Objective: Evidence suggests that many adults with type 1 diabetes (T1D) experience clinically relevant levels of diabetes distress, indicating coping difficulties. Studies have primarily focused on emotion regulation as a possible construct to be addressed in psychological interventions to alleviate diabetes distress. This study extends the literature by investigating the cross-sectional association between emotion regulation, diabetes distress and the construct of emotional self-awareness as an additional variable to be considered in potentially reducing diabetes distress.
