The increasing complexity of biological systems demands advanced analytical approaches to decode the underlying mechanisms of health and disease. Integrative multi-omics approaches use multi-layered datasets such as genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic, and metabolomic data to understand biological processes much more comprehensively compared to the single-omics analysis and to provide a comprehensive view of cellular and molecular processes. However, these integrative approaches have their own computational and analytical challenges due to the large volume and nature of multi-omics data.

Embryogenesis is remarkably robust to temperature variability, yet there is limited understanding of the homeostatic mechanisms that offset thermal effects during early development. Here, we measured the thermal acclimation response of upper thermal limits and profiled chromatin state and the transcriptome of embryos (Bownes Stage 11) using single-nuclei multiome ATAC and RNA sequencing. We report that thermal acclimation, while preserving a common set of primordial cell types, rapidly shifted the upper thermal limit.

Background: Incorporating ethics into clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) can be challenging. This is particularly evident for infectious diseases (ID) CPGs due to the complexity of ID ethics (IDE) and the multiplicity of populations at-risk for infections.
Objectives: The OPENING project (IncOrPorating Ethics iN ClINical Guidelines: Practical Indications) was initiated by the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID) Ethics Advisory Committee (EEAC) in collaboration with the ESCMID Guidelines Subcommittee to generate guidelines for the systematic inclusion of ethics principles into ID CPGs.

Dispersal is an important life history trait that plays a key role in the demography and evolution of species. We employed a combined approach of DNA sequencing and transmission electron microscopy to examine the changes in the microbiome during the ontogeny and dispersal of the coral-excavating sponge Thoosa mismalolli. The results show that sponge can acquired their associated bacteria via both vertical (VT) and horizontal transmission (HT).

Background: Comprehensive health-related quality of life (QOL) assessment under severe respondent burden constraints requires improved single-item scales for frequently surveyed domains. This article documents how new single-item-per-domain (SIPD) QOL General (QGEN-8) measures were constructed for domains common to SF-36 and results from the first psychometric tests comparing scores for the new measure in relation to those for the SF-36 profile and summary components.
Research Design: Online NORC surveys of adults, ages 19-93 (mean=52 y) representing the US population in 2020 (N=1648) included QGEN-8 and SF-36 items measuring physical (PF), social (SF), role physical (RP) and role emotional (RE) functioning and feelings of bodily pain (BP), vitality (VT), and mental health (MH).

Introduction: Binge Eating Disorder (BED) has high lifetime prevalence rates, low treatment success rates, and high rates of treatment dissatisfaction, early discontinuation of care, and recurrence. Complementary and integrative health (CIH) interventions (non-mainstream practices used with conventional approaches for whole-person treatment) hold potential to overcome many treatment barriers and improve BED treatment outcomes. Some CIH interventions have empirical support for use in eating disorders.

Pressure is mounting to minimize the carbon footprint of chemical industry while increasing its sustainability. An argument is made that working from Green Chemistry principles during discovery-based catalysis results in effective chemistry and circumvents a need to "rediscover" chemical reactivity under sustainable conditions. Examples of comparative success in selected examples of hydrophosphination catalysis in various degrees of development are provided to support two main ideas: 1) Starting from more sustainable practices in chemical discovery is inertia in methodology that should be overcome, and 2) substantial challenges remain in catalysis for which sustainable solutions would positively impact other areas of chemistry.

Purpose Of The Review: Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) are myeloid neoplasms characterized by high molecular and genomic heterogeneity. Accordingly, efforts in risk assessment and therapeutic intervention mostly target unique profiles that individualize specific MDS subtypes. In this review, we explored the contributions of population based studies accounting for MDS as a group.

Background: Neonatal and maternal mortality remains high in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC), especially in sub-Saharan Africa. Quality data collection is crucial to understand the magnitude of these problems and to measure the impact of interventions aimed at improving neonatal and maternal mortality. However, data collection in the low-income country setting, especially in rural areas, has been a challenge for researchers, policy makers, and public health officials.

Background: Programmed electrical stimulation (PES) is an essential part of ventricular tachycardia (VT) ablation procedures, but VT is not always inducible, usually for reasons that are not clear.
Objectives: This study sought to review pacing site-specific failure of PES to induce scar-related VT and to provide a potential mechanistic explanation of the phenomena using a computer simulation.
Methods: Six patients in whom aggressive PES from traditional RV pacing sites failed to induce VT, but VT was easily inducible from a nontraditional site, were reviewed.

We present the results of a 1-year study that quantified salt levels in stormwater, soils, and plant tissues from 14 stormwater detention basins across Northern VA in an above-average snow year. We characterize (1) the level of salt stress plants experience, (2) the extent to which current plant communities feature salt tolerant species, and (3) the capacity of these species to phytoremediate soils and reduce the impacts of deicer and anti-icer use. Our results suggest that detention basin vegetation experience a range of salt stress levels that depend on drainage area type (roads: moderate to high > parking lots: low to moderate > pervious areas: none).

Current guidelines recommend cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) programming, including faster detection rates, longer detection durations, and strict discrimination for supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) to prevent unnecessary ICD treatment. This delayed-style ICD programming could lead to a rise in the possibility of VF undersensing. To avoid this risk, an innovative algorithm known as VF Therapy Assurance (VFTA; Abbott, Sylmar, CA) has been developed.
