We disclose the synthesis of 3-arylquinoxalin-2-ones from -phenylenediamines and readily available arylacetates. The method harnesses the selective oxidative property of elemental sulfur in the presence of amine base catalyst and DMSO. The reactions are operationally simple and tolerate a wide range of functional groups.

Recently, the hazardous effects of antibiotic micropollutants on the environment and human health have become a major concern. To address this challenge, semiconductor-based photocatalysis has emerged as a promising solution for environmental remediation. Our study has developed BiWO/g-CN (BWCN) photocatalyst with unique characteristics such as reactive surface sites, enhanced charge transfer efficiency, and accelerated separation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs.

Background: White-rot fungi and bacteria communities are unique ecosystems with different types of symbiotic interactions occurring during wood decomposition, such as cooperation, mutualism, nutritional competition, and antagonism. The role of chitin-active lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases (LPMOs) in these symbiotic interactions is the subject of this study.
Method: In this study, bioinformatics tools were used to analyze the sequence and structure of putative LPMOs mined by hidden Markov model (HMM) profiles from the bacterial metagenomic DNA database of collected humus samples around white-rot fungi in Cuc Phuong primary forest, Vietnam.

This study investigates the removal of amoxicillin micropollutants (AM) from hospital wastewater using CoMoO-modified graphitic carbon nitride (CMO/gCN). Consequently, CMO/gCN exhibits notable improvements in visible light absorption and electron-hole separation rates compared to unmodified gCN. Besides, CMO/gCN significantly enhances the removal efficiency of AM, attaining an impressive 96.

Although the use of the tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) has been proved that it can save live in a cancer treatment, the currently used drugs bring in many undesirable side-effects. Therefore, the search for new drugs and an evaluation of their efficiency are intensively carried out. Recently, a series of eighteen imidazole[1,5-a]pyridine derivatives were synthetized by us, and preliminary analyses pointed out their potential to be an important platform for pharmaceutical development owing to their promising actions as anticancer agents and enzyme (kinase, HIV-protease,…) inhibitors.

A cost-effective, practical, straightforward and scalable synthesis of α-pyrones base- and sulfur-promoted annulation of phenylacetates and chalcones is reported. Generated from the starting components by using dbu as a base catalyst, the Michael adducts underwent a smooth oxidative cyclization into 3,4,6-triaryl-2-pyranones upon heating with DABCO and sulfur in DMSO. Extension to malonate in place of phenylacetates led to 4,6-diaryl-2-pyranone-2-carboxylates.

Background: Recently, cold atmospheric plasma (CAP), as well as adipose mesenchymal stem cells derived exosomes (ADMSCs-EX), have been applied separately to wound healing treatment. However, no study has investigated the additive effect on the healing mechanism of these two methods in the same skin lesion treatment model.
Aim: We conduct this study to describe the results of using CAP and human ADMSCs-EX on in vitro wound healing.

Although Eichhornia crassipes, commonly known as water hyacinth, has been widely used in wastewater treatment, further investigations are still needed to explore the removal efficiency of perfluoroalkyl acids (PFAAs) from the aqueous environment using this floating aquatic plant. In this study, a hydroponic experiment was conducted to assess accumulation, bioconcentration factors (BCFs), translocation factors (TFs), and removal rates of eight PFAAs by water hyacinth. The obtained results indicated that all PFAAs, including five perfluoroalkyl carboxylic acids (PFCAs) with chain lengths C4-C8 and three perfluoroalkyl sulfonic acids (PFSAs) with C4, C6, and C8, were readily accumulated in water hyacinth.

Background: Predicting protein-protein interactions (PPIs) from sequence data is a key challenge in computational biology. While various computational methods have been proposed, the utilization of sequence embeddings from protein language models, which contain diverse information, including structural, evolutionary, and functional aspects, has not been fully exploited. Additionally, there is a significant need for a comprehensive neural network capable of efficiently extracting these multifaceted representations.

The mean sea surface in different regions is non-equipotential, rendering Vietnam's traditional approach, which relies on the Hon-Dau tide gauge station as a reference, not yet scientifically invalid. To overcome this, our study utilized the Vietnam national mean dynamic topography model (MDTVN22) for depth observations, particularly in the Gulf of Tonkin. Covering 3430 monitoring sites in Hai Phong and 813 sites in Quang Ninh, our experiments highlighted a 5 to 6 mm difference between the mean sea surface and MDTVN22 references.

By identifying Earth heritage sites, UNESCO Global Geoparks (UGGps) have promoted geo-tourism and regional economic prosperity. However, commercial and tourism development has altered the natural contexts of these geoparks, diminishing their initial value. Before implementing land use policies, spatial landscape parameters should be monitored in multiple dimensions and in real time.

Climate change and increasing urbanization are two primary factors responsible for the increased risk of serious flooding around the world. The prediction and monitoring of the effects of land use/land cover (LULC) and climate change on flood risk are critical steps in the development of appropriate strategies to reduce potential damage. This study aimed to develop a new approach by combining machine learning (namely the XGBoost, CatBoost, LightGBM, and ExtraTree models) and hydraulic modeling to predict the effects of climate change and LULC change on land that is at risk of flooding.

The escalating global industrial expansion has led to the extensive release of organic compounds into water bodies, resulting in substantial pollution and posing severe threats to both human health and the ecosystem. Among common micropollutants, bisphenol A (MP-BA) has emerged as a significant endocrine-disrupting chemical with potential adverse effects on human health and the environment. This study aims to develop an efficient photocatalyst, specifically by incorporating palladium-doped graphitic carbon nitride (Pd@GCN), to eliminate MP-BA pollutants present in industrial wastewater.

The matrix of the stationary phase is a crucial element in affinity chromatography for protein purification. Various materials, including polymer or magnetic materials, have been employed as the matrix in the purification of His-tagged protein. Here, for the first time, we utilized a combination of melanin and alginate, both natural polymer materials, to synthesize Ni-melanin/alginate (Ni-M/A) beads for His-tagged protein purification.
