Depression is a common mental disorder discerns with depressed mood, loss of interest, the primary treatment methods are drug therapy, electroconvulsive therapy, psychotherapy, light therapy, vagus nerve stimulation, etc. A number of innovative delivery systems have been developed to address suboptimal therapy outcomes by enhancing drug delivery, assuring efficacy of treatment, reducing side effects, improving compliance and drug targeting specific locations resulting in a higher efficiency. Depot delivery offers the advantage of a very high loading, controlled release of drug for an extended period of time and reduces frequency of dosing.

The present study aimed to produce verapamil hydrochloride-loaded solid lipid microparticles (SLM) by the w/o/w emulsion solvent evaporation technique, using diethyl ether as solvent phase, glyceryl monostearate as biodegradable polymer and Span 60 as surfactant. SLM of spherical shape were prepared by simple dilution of the emulsion with water. To increase the lipid load the process was conducted at 50 degrees C, and in order to reach sub-micron size, a high-shear homogenizer was used.

Selective GABA(A) receptor ligands are widely used clinically to reduce the occurrence of convulsions. Hence there is an intense interest in developing new benzimidazole derivatives demonstrating high selectivity and high affinity for GABA(A) receptors. With the purpose of designing new chemical entities with an enhanced binding affinity for GABA(A)/BZd receptor complex, we carried out a QSAR study on benzotriazine derivatives.
