Background: There is limited data on client preferences for different HIV self-testing (HIVST) and provider-delivered testing options and associated factors. We explored client preferences for oral-fluid-based self-testing (OFBST), blood-based self-testing (BBST) and provider-delivered blood-based testing (PDBBT) among different populations.

Methods: At clinics providing HIV testing services to general populations (1 urban, 1 rural clinic), men seeking voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC, 1 clinic), and female sex workers (FSW, 1 clinic), clients had the option to test using OFBST, BBST or PDBBT.

In low-resource settings, a point-of-care test for cervical cancer screening that can give an immediate result to guide management is urgently needed. A transvaginal digital device, "Smart Scope" (SS), with an artificial intelligence-enabled auto-image-assessment (SS-AI) feature, was developed. In a single-arm observational study, eligible consenting women underwent a Smart Scope-aided VIA-VILI test.

Background And Aim: Primary glomerular disease accounts for one-sixth of all chronic kidney diseases (CKDs) in India. We remain limited in our ability to effectively treat these conditions because of lack of understanding of the disease mechanisms and lack of predictors to identify the clinical course and therapeutic responsiveness. We propose to develop a network of investigators in glomerular diseases, collect information in a systematic fashion to understand the clinical outcomes, answer translational research questions better, and identify and recruit patients for clinical trials.

Background: Surgical voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) is a safe procedure; however, maintaining quality standards at scale, particularly during scale-up, is a challenge making ongoing quality management (QM) efforts essential. This study describes program quality measured by rates of adverse events (AEs) over four years of VMMC implementation in Namibia, compares AE rates over time, and discusses QM processes that contextualize AE trends and illustrate improvements in quality as the program matured. The International Training and Education Center for Health (I-TECH) assisted the Namibian Ministry of Health and Social Services (MoHSS) in expanding VMMC in three regions among boys and men over 10 years of age between January 2015 and September 2019.

Article Synopsis
  • This study focused on how education and voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) impact HIV prevalence among sexually active men in Eswatini.
  • Two national surveys from 2006 and 2016 were analyzed to see if VMMC has notably affected HIV disparities, considering factors like poverty and sexual practices.
  • Findings revealed a significant drop in HIV rates among educated men linked to increased VMMC, highlighting a growing education gap in HIV infection rates by 2016.

Sudden cardiac death (SCD) is a condition that accounts for a high percentage of cardiovascular fatalities, with ventricular tachyarrhythmias being the most common cause. There are signs and symptoms of SCD that occur spontaneously without any warning and are deadly. Despite preventative efforts focusing on the use of subcutaneous implanted cardioverter defibrillators (S-ICD) in the highest-risk population categories, a high number of SCDs occur in the normal population and in people who do not have a documented cardiac condition.

  • This observational study investigates changes in white blood cell morphology among patients with Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (SIRS), comparing those with and without sepsis.
  • A total of 84 patients (52 with sepsis and 32 without) were analyzed through blood smears for specific morphological indicators like toxic granules, cytoplasmic vacuoles, and Dohle bodies.
  • Results showed that toxic granules and cytoplasmic vacuoles were significantly more common in the sepsis group, while Dohle bodies were exclusive to sepsis patients, suggesting these morphological changes could help predict sepsis in SIRS patients.
