Introduction: Thyroid diseases affect approximately 42 million people in India. The majority (15%-40%) of these cases remain asymptomatic and benign and warrant special investigations such as ultrasonography (USG) and fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) for diagnosis. Early diagnosis and management of thyroid disorders determine the disease course in many patients.

Varicella zoster virus outbreak in a long-term care unit of a tertiary care hospital in northern India.

Nosocomial outbreak of varicella zoster virus (VZV) has been reported when susceptible individuals encounter a case of chicken pox or shingles. A suspected VZV outbreak was investigated in a 50-bedded in-patient facility of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in a tertiary care multispecialty hospital. A 30-year-old female patient admitted with Pott's spine was clinically diagnosed with chicken pox on 31 December 2022.

In Zimbabwe, the ZAZIC consortium employs two-way, text-based (2wT) follow-up to strengthen post-operative care for voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC). 2wT scaled nationally with evidence of client support and strengthened follow-up. However, 2wT uptake among healthcare providers remains suboptimal.

Rehabilitation in obstructive sleep apnea: an ignored treatment adjunct.

Patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) remain physically inactive during the day, are deconditioned, and have an impaired health-related quality of life (HRQoL). The role of rehabilitation is not yet defined in OSA, despite proven effective modalities for chronic illnesses like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. In this prospective study, over a period of one year, 30 individuals with sleep-disordered breathing were included.

Burden of Tuberculosis among tribal populations of India: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Tuberculosis (TB) continues to impose a significant burden on tribal populations in India, a high-risk group for the disease. Despite its preventable and curable nature, TB remains a formidable health challenge for these communities. However, a critical knowledge gap exists regarding the population-based prevalence of TB among tribal populations in India.

Prescription-based cost analysis of medicines for cardiovascular risk factors at Indian Council of Medical Research-Rational Use of Medicine Centre Hospitals of India.

Objectives: India has taken several initiatives to provide health care to its population while keeping the related expenditure minimum. Introduction: Uptake of voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) remains a challenge in many settings. Innovative implementation strategies are required to scale-up VMMC uptake.

Methodology: RITe was a multi-faceted intervention comprising transport reimbursement (R), intensified health education (IHE) and SMS/Telephone tracing (Te), which increased the uptake of VMMC among uncircumcised men with sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in Malawi.

Comparative evaluation of blind supraglottic airway device insertion versus videolaryngoscope-guided technique in adults undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

Objectives: A videolaryngoscope may decrease the high incidence of aberrant positioning of supraglottic airway devices (SAD) inserted with blind techniques. We aimed to compare Igel insertion characteristics between blind and videolaryngoscope-assisted techniques.

Methods: In this study 70 adult patients scheduled for elective laparoscopic cholecystectomy under general anesthesia were randomly divided into blind (Group B,  = 35) and videolaryngoscope-guided (Group V,  = 35) Igel insertion.

Double trouble - dual outflow tract obstruction in congenital heart disease: a case report.

Background: Double chambered right ventricle is a rare congenital heart disease that is characterised by the presence of an anomalous muscle bundle that divides the right ventricle into a low pressure superior (distal) chamber and a high pressure inferior (proximal) chamber. It is found in association with a ventricular septal defect in 90% cases with other associations being tetralogy of Fallot, transposition of great vessels, atrial septal defect and Ebstein's anomaly. On the other hand, subaortic membrane is a form of discrete subaortic stenosis that is characterised by a membranous diaphragm in the subvalvular location of the left ventricular outflow tract.

Evaluation of prescriptions from tertiary care hospitals across India for deviations from treatment guidelines & their potential consequences.

Background Objectives: Irrational prescribing practices have major consequences on patient safety and also increase the economic burden. Real-life examples of impact of irrational prescription have potential to improve prescribing practices. In this context, the present study aimed to capture and evaluate the prevalence of deviations from treatment guidelines in the prescriptions, potential consequence/s of the deviations and corrective actions recommended by clinicians.

Intraoperative Prophylaxis with Palonosetron for Postoperative Nausea and/or Vomiting in Adults Undergoing Cardiothoracic Surgery Under General Anesthesia: A Single-Center Retrospective Study.

Objective: This study assessed the efficacy of palonosetron, alone or with dexamethasone, in reducing postoperative nausea and/or vomiting (PONV) and its impact on hospitalization duration in patients who undergo adult cardiothoracic surgery (CTS) under general anesthesia.

Design: This retrospective analysis involved 540 adult patients who underwent CTS from a single-center cohort, spanning surgeries between September 2021 and March 2023. Sensitivity, logistic, and Cox regression analyses evaluated antiemetic effects, PONV risk factors, and outcomes.

Cryodebulking to Relieve Critical Airway Narrowing Due to a Central Airway Tumor at the Carina: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Central airway tumors presenting as critical airway stenosis is a medical emergency. Employing a cryoprobe, we successfully debulked a central airway tumor, providing rapid relief to a patient who came to the emergency room with severe breathlessness, hemoptysis, and respiratory failure. The current report underscores the efficacy of cryodebulking as an immediate and minimally invasive technique and a compelling alternative to conventional heat-based therapies.

An Outcome Analysis of Fibrin Sealant versus Staples for Fixation of Split-Thickness Skin Grafts.

 Skin grafting plays a vital role in post-burn and post-traumatic wound management. Split-thickness skin grafts (STSG) are traditionally fixed using staples or sutures, which have tedious application and their removal necessitates painkillers, medical equipment, and human intervention. As an alternative, fibrin sealant is a biological tissue adhesive, composed of thrombin, calcium, and fibrinogen.

To Determine the Quality of Life in Indian Women After Peripartum Hysterectomy Using a Hindi Version of the SF-36 Questionnaire.

Objective: The objective of the study was to determine the quality of life in women after peripartum hysterectomy using a Hindi version of the SF-36 questionnaire.

Background: There are long-term effects on quality of life in women after peripartum hysterectomy. The effects on physical, mental, and social functioning have a prolonged recovery.

Effect of cryopreservation on CD4+ T cell subsets in foreskin tissue.

Voluntary medical male circumcision (VMMC) reduces HIV acquisition by at least 60%, but the determinants of HIV susceptibility in foreskin tissues are incompletely understood. Flow cytometry is a powerful tool that helps us understand tissue immune defenses in mucosal tissue like the inner foreskin, but foreskin flow cytometry has only been validated using fresh tissue samples. This restricts immune analyses to timepoints immediately after surgical acquisition and hinders research in this area.

Effects of Nitric Oxide Supplementation on the Levels of Interleukin-6 in Saliva after Dental Implant Placement - A Prospective Study.

Introduction: The purpose of the study was to evaluate and compare the levels of salivary Interleukin-6 (IL-6) before and after the placement of dental implants in patients who are supplemented with nitric oxide (NO).

Materials And Methods: The study comprised 34 patients, divided into control and study groups (17 in each group). The control group was given a placebo and in the study group, nitric oxide supplement was prescribed, whereas the control group received a placebo.
