Objective: To investigate the effectiveness of posterior lateral perforator flap in lower limb combined with free fibula for maxillary tissue defect repair.

Methods: Between December 2018 and December 2023, 16 patients with the maxillary malignant tumors were admitted. There were 10 males and 6 females, with an average age of 64.

[Application of elbow skin fold extension line in extreme elbow flexion in ulnar Kirschner wire insertion of extended supracondylar humeral fractures in children].

Objective: To discuss the elbow skin fold extension line in Kirschner wire internal fixation of extended supracondylar humeral fractures in children.

Methods: The clinical data of 58 children with extended supracondylar fractures of the humerus who met the selection criteria between August 2021 and July 2024 were retrospectively analyzed. In 28 cases, needle placement of medial epicondyle of humerus was performed with the assistance of the elbow skin fold extension line (study group), and 30 cases were assisted by routine touch of the medial epicondyle of the humerus (control group).

Exosome-Like Vesicles from Callus Enhanced Wound Healing by Reducing LPS-Induced Inflammation.

(LE), a medicinal plant from the Boraginaceae family, is traditionally used in East Asia for its therapeutic effects on skin conditions, including infections, inflammation, and wounds. Recently, the role of extracellular vesicles (EVs) as mediators of intercellular communication that regulate inflammation and promote tissue regeneration has garnered increasing attention in the field of regenerative medicine. This study investigates exosome-like vesicles derived from LE callus (LELVs) and their potential in enhancing wound healing.

Discovery of Orally Available Prodrugs of Itaconate and Derivatives.

Itaconate, an endogenous immunomodulator from the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle, shows therapeutic effects in various disease models, but is highly polar with poor cellular permeability. We previously reported a novel, topical itaconate derivative, SCD-153, for the treatment of alopecia areata. Here, we present the discovery of orally available itaconate derivatives for systemic and skin disorders.

Herein, a photo-immune nanoparticle decorating with M1 macrophage membrane (BD@LM) is designed based on the inflammatory environment after surgical resection. By loading photosensitizer black phosphorus quantum dots (BPQDs) and chemotherapeutics doxorubicin (DOX) in BD@LM nanoparticles, an effective chemophototherapy-mediated immunogenic cell death of tumor cells is triggered, subsequently leading to the maturation of dendritic cells for further immune cascade.

POEMS Syndrome.

POEMS syndrome (Polyneuropathy, Organomegaly, Endocrinopathy, Monoclonal Protein, Skin changes) is a syndrome that involves a monoclonal B-cell proliferation, most often plasmacytic, and a variable number of manifestations listed or not in the acronym. These manifestations include sclerotic bone lesions, plasmacytic Castleman disease, papillary edema, peripheral edema, ascites, thrombocytosis and/or polycythemia, venous and/or arterial thrombosis, and renal, pulmonary, and cardiac impairments . Diagnosis is often delayed due to the rarity of this entity and its clinical polymorphism, which can mimic other neurological disorders.

Phase II Randomized Trial of BI 730357, a Novel Oral RORγt Inhibitor, for Moderate-to-Severe Plaque Psoriasis.

Trial Design: This two-part, double-blinded trial assessed the truncated retinoic acid-related orphan receptor γ (RORγt) inhibitor BI 730357 in plaque psoriasis.

Methods: Part 1: patients were randomized 2:2:2:2:1 to BI 730357 25, 50, 100, 200 mg, or placebo once daily (qd; fasting conditions); non-responders switched to higher doses. Part 2: a separate patient set was randomized 4:4:1 to BI 730357 400 mg qd, 200 mg twice daily, or placebo (fed conditions).

Tissue factor pathway inhibitor 2 (TFPI2) is known to regulate the proliferation of various cell types and tumor tissues; however, its role in the process of skin aging has not been elucidated. In this study, we identify TFPI2 as a potential antagonist of aging. Our findings indicate that TFPI2 expression is downregulated in aging skin tissues and senescent human dermal fibroblasts (HDFs), and that the depletion of TFPI2 accelerates the senescence of HDFs and the aging of skin.

Inspired by natural microbial cooperation, a co-culture approach was used to synthesize bacterial nanocellulose (BNC)-based nanocomposites for potential wound healing applications. Development and evaluation of chitosan-coated virgin coconut oil-asiatic acid-loaded nanoemulgel for enhanced wound management.

Wound management remains a significant challenge due to complications such as delayed healing and microbial infections, particularly in the conditions like diabetes mellitus, vascular disorders, and immunosuppression. This study aimed to develop a chitosan-coated virgin coconut oil-asiatic acid-loaded nanoemulsion gel (CS-ASA-NEG) to enhance wound healing outcomes. A central composite design (CCD) was employed using Design Expert 11 software to optimize the nanoemulsion formulation, with ternary phase diagrams (TPD) evaluating stable regions for Tween 20: Span 80 (T20:S80) ratios.

Silver nanoparticle-loaded Konjac Glucomannan/silk fibroin composite hydrogels for enhanced wound healing.

Hydrogel dressings with good biocompatibility and extracellular matrix mimetic structure are important for the treatment of skin wounds. In this study, antimicrobial silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) loaded with konjac glucomannan and silk fibroin (KGM/SF) composite hydrogel were used as a dressing for wound healing. The uniform distribution of Ag NPs on the surface of the hydrogels imparts excellent antibacterial properties to KGM/SF composite hydrogels.

Subcutaneous Infection With Snow Leopard Sign on 18F-FDG PET/CT Mimicking Subcutaneous Panniculitis-Like T-Cell Lymphoma.

A 37-year-old man presented with a 2-month history of fever of unknown origin and erythema rashes on the trunk and limbs. 18F-FDG PET/CT revealed increased 18F-FDG uptake in subcutaneous panniculitis, forming a snow leopard sign, along with enlarged lymph nodes, which suggested subcutaneous panniculitis-like T-cell lymphoma. However, skin biopsy indicated subcutaneous infection, and bone marrow biopsy revealed no abnormal lymphocytes.

The clinical phenomenology of skin-picking disorder - Are there any obsessive-compulsive components?

Background: Skin-picking disorder (SPD) is currently conceptualized as a condition related to obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). The present study investigated whether the emotional, cognitive, and somatic components of skin-picking episodes align with this conceptual framework.

Method: A total of 134 patients diagnosed with SPD (mean age = 32 years; 84 % female; average symptom duration: 16 years) underwent in-person clinical assessment.

Sex differences in survival from melanoma of the skin: The role of age, anatomic location and stage at diagnosis: A CONCORD-3 study in 59 countries.

Background: CONCORD-3 highlighted wide disparities in population-based 5-year net survival for cutaneous melanoma during 2000-2014. Studies showed a survival advantage in women, but the reasons are not completely understood. We aim to estimate trends in age-standardised 5-year net survival by sex and to examine the role of age, anatomic location and stage on the survival advantage for women worldwide.

Vestibular function in children with neurodevelopmental disorders: A neglected sense?

Objective: The study aimed to explore the vestibular function in children with neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs).

Methods: Twenty-eight participants with a NDD (6 girls, 22 boys; 6-13 years; 9;3 ± 2;4 years) were enrolled in this pilot study. Sixteen participants had a single NDD (Autism Spectrum Disorder: n = 7, Developmental Coordination Disorder: n = 3; Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder: n = 6), the remaining 12 had comorbid NDDs.

Heterogeneous head phantom for validating treatment planning system in boron neutron capture therapy.

In clinical boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT), the distribution of dose to a heterogeneous medium that is predicted by a treatment planning system (TPS) should be experimentally validated. A head phantom specifically developed for this purpose is described and demonstrated herein. The cylindrical phantom exhibits distinct regions made from four materials (polymethyl methacrylate, calcium phosphate, air, and boric acid) to approximate a head structure with explicitly defined skin, skull, and brain tissue with a cavity and tumor within.

A Balamuthia amoebic encephalitis survivor in China, and literature review.

Balamuthia amoebic encephalitis (BAE) is a rare, fatal parasitic infection of the central nervous system, with a current mortality rate above 95%. The high fatality rate is largely attributed to atypical clinicopathological features, delayed diagnosis, and the absence of effective treatment methods, so quick recognition of this disease is vital. In this paper, we present a survivor of BAE, who was confirmed through histologic examination and metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) of brain lesions.
