Certain species D human adenoviruses (HAdV-D19, -D37, and -D64) are causative agents of epidemic keratoconjunctivitis. HAdV-D37 has previously been shown to bind CD46 (membrane cofactor protein) and sialic acid as adhesion receptors. HAdV-D64 is genetically highly similar to HAdV-D37, with an identical fiber protein sequence, but differs substantially in its penton base and hexon proteins, two other major capsid components, due to genetic recombination.

Here, we report on the synthesis and biological evaluation of a novel peptide-drug conjugate, P6-SN38, which consists of the EGFR-specific short cyclic peptide, P6, and the Topo I inhibitor SN38, which is a bioactive metabolite of the anticancer drug irinotecan. SN38 is attached to the peptide at position 20 of the E ring's tertiary hydroxyl group via a mono-succinate linker. The developed peptide-drug conjugate (PDC) exhibited sub-micromolar anticancer activity on EGFR-positive (EGFR+) cell lines but no effect on EGFR-negative (EGFR-) cells.

Isothiocyanates (ITCs), found in edible plants such as cruciferous vegetables, are a group of reactive organo-sulfur phytochemicals produced by the hydrolysis of precursors known as glucosinolates. In this article, we discuss an unusual pattern in long-crack behavior at low stress intensity factor ranges ΔK (below ΔK), characterized by an initial dip, followed by a plateau, and then an acceleration in fatigue crack growth (FCG) rate. This unanticipated FCG behavior was first observed experimentally in the IMI 834 alloy and reported by Marci in 1996. Such an anomaly is only reported from experimental observation but cannot be understood or explained using the plasticity, roughness, or oxide-induced crack closure assumptions.

Retinal degenerative diseases lead to irreversible vision loss due to photoreceptor cell death, driven by complex genetic and environmental factors. Ceramide, a sphingolipid metabolite, emerges as a critical mediator in the apoptotic cascade associated with retinal degeneration. Our previous work demonstrated L-Cycloserine's ability to protect photoreceptor-derived cells from oxidative stress by inhibiting the de novo ceramide pathway and thus prompting further investigation on its effect in the in vivo retina.
