Submarine Groundwater Discharge (SGD) has a global impact, affecting coastal aquifers, the freshwater environment, and contributing to coastal development. The present study investigates the impact of Submarine Groundwater Discharge (SGD) on groundwater geochemistry along the coast from Chettikulam to Kolachel in Southern India, with an emphasis on regional changes pre and post monsoons in the years 2023-2024. A total of 80 groundwater samples (40 from both monsoons) were analyzed using hydrochemical plots such as Piper, Wilcox, Gibbs, and Hydrochemical Facies Evolution Diagrams (HFE-D), along with AquaChem software and spatial mapping techniques.

In this study, we present the development and analysis of electrochemical sensors utilizing graphitic carbon nitride copper-tungsten nanoparticles (g-CN @Cu-W Nps) capped with various cationic surfactants of differing chain lengths and counter ions. The fabricated nanoparticles underwent thorough characterization to assess their morphological, structural, and compositional attributes, revealing their uniformity, spherical morphology, and monoclinic crystal phases. Pure and Mg, Ni, Cd doped MnO nanoparticles were synthesized by chemical co-precipitation method. These samples were characterised by PXRD, SEM, EDX, FTIR, UV-Vis-NIR, PL, Antibacterial, Cyclic Voltammetry, Dye Degradation and Photocatalytic studies. From the powder XRD studies, the crystallite size of the particle was calculated using Scherer formula and found that the synthesized nanoparticles were in the range from 10 to 12 nm.

Due to adverse impact of the global warming on hydrological resources, we intended to document the hydrogeochemical evolutions of surface and groundwater at tropical central-south Mexico in terms of seasonality of rock-water interaction, precipitation/evaporation variation and moisture source by evaluating the major ion chemistry in Piper and Gibbs plots, Durov diagram and through estimation of the chloro-alkaline indices as well as assessing the stable isotope compositions (δO and δH) in samples from different seasons of a year. In this work, a simple, efficient and eco-friendly green synthesis of manganese dioxide nanoparticles (MnONPs) by Psidium guajava leaf extract was described. Fourier-Transform infrared spectra results revealed that involvement of the plant extract functional groups in the formation of MnONPs. The UV-vis absorption spectra of the synthesized MnONPs exhibited absorption peaks at 374 nm, which were attributed to the band gap of the MnONPs.

Due to an increasing reduction of hydrological resources across Mexico and their growing contamination from global warming and anthropogenic activities, this study evaluated water from the perennial Lake Coatetelco (Ca-Mg-HCO) in tropical central-southern Mexico and groundwater (Ca-Mg-HCO and Na-HCO-Cl) from the surrounding wells for drinking as well as irrigation qualities. Comparison with the WHO guidelines and the estimated water quality indices (DWQI and IWQI) grouped almost all the samples collected after the warm season rainfall in excellent and good categories (DWQI < 100) for drinking, even though fluoride remained > 1.5 mg/L in 50% samples.

New metal(II) complexes (CuL and ZnL) with pyrimidine appended Schiff base ligand (HL) were synthesized and characterized by diverse spectroscopic methods, reveals the proposed structure of metal(II) complexes possess square planar geometry. DNA interaction ability of isolated compounds was studied by UV-Visible, fluorescence, viscometric and electrochemical methods and the results showed that isolated compounds intercalated with calf thymus DNA (CT-DNA). In addition, anticancer activities of HL, CuL and ZnL have been evaluated by MTT assay, signifying moderate cytotoxic activity on selected cancer cell lines and less toxicity on NHDF normal cell line due to the specific targeting of pyrimidine analogues.

We have discussed the SGD studies in the Asian context; SGD has been studied in various parts of Asia, including China, Japan, South Korea, and Southeast Asia. In China, SGD has been studied in several coastal regions, including the Yellow Sea, the East China Sea, and the South China Sea.

The self-assembly of tetrarhenium metallacycles [{Re(CO)}(μ-dhaq)(μ-N-N)] (3a, N-N = 1,3-bis(1-butylbenzimidazol-2-yl)benzene; 3b, N-N = 1,3-bis(1-octylbenzimidazol-2-yl)benzene), (H-dhaq = 1,4-dihydroxy-9,10-anthraquinone) and [{Re(CO)}(μ-thaq)(μ-N-N)] (4, N-N = 1,3-bis(1-butylbenzimidazol-2-yl)benzene), (H-thaq = 1,2,4-trihydroxy-9,10-anthraquinone) under solvothermal conditions is described. The metallacycles 3a,b and 4 underwent aggregation-induced emission enhancement (AIEE) in THF upon the incremental addition of water. TEM images revealed that metallacycle 3a in a 60% aqueous THF solution formed rectangular aggregates with a wide size distribution, while a 90% aqueous THF solution resulted in the formation of a mixture of nanorods and amorphous aggregates due to rapid and abrupt aggregation.

The present study has been carried out to assess the quality of groundwater and surface water resources of Thettiyar watershed, Kerala, India. Sixty-six water samples were collected during pre-monsoon (April, 2019) and monsoon (July, 2019) season, and analyzed for pH, electrical conductivity (EC), total dissolved solids (TDS), total hardness and major cations and anions and microbiological parameters as well. According to the piper diagram's plot, Ca and Mg dominate over Na among the cations, and Cl is the most prevalent anion in groundwater throughout both the studied seasons.

The quantitative and qualitative stress on groundwater resources has been witnessed across the globe. The current study assesses the groundwater quality of Tirunelveli district which faces the hazard of groundwater contamination through seepage of toxins, considering the open dumping of huge volumes of solid waste. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the metal concentrations in the Halda River in Bangladesh to determine the quality of the water and sediment in the natural spawning zone. Fe > Zn > Cr > Cd > Cu was the order of the metals in water, whereas Fe > Zn > Cd > Cu was the order in sediments. Almost all of the heavy metals in the water and sediment had been found within the established limits, with the exception of Cr and Fe in the river and Cu in the sediment.

Submarine groundwater discharge (SGD) is the groundwater flow from land to the sea across the seabed, and it includes both terrane freshwater and recirculated seawater in the sub-surface. This review (i) systematically evaluates findings of various quantification methodologies, (ii) examines the estimated SGD in scientific publications between 2000 and 2020, and (iii) quantitatively evaluates current situation of coastal zone management through the bibliometric analysis of research papers. Apart from enhancing the shortage of groundwater resources in coastal area, the SGD brings nutrients (nitrate and phosphate), toxic heavy metals, and organic compounds, and thus contaminate the seawater.

The influx of fresh groundwater and re-circulated sea water into coastal ecosystem occurs through the submarine groundwater discharge (SGD). Measurement of salinity, radium tracers (Ra, and Ra isotopes) and nutrients in estuarine water, coastal surface water and groundwater during December 2019 estimated the SGD and associated nutrient fluxes near the Karameniyar estuary (Gulf of Mannar) and surroundings of the Manapad region at southern part of Tamil Nadu state in India. The presence of excessive radium tracers revealed that the SGD was contributing to Ra desorption from the sediments and enrichment in the coastal waters.

Contamination of fish with heavy metals (Heavy metals) is one of the most severe environmental and human health issues.
