Background: Skin cancer is the most frequently diagnosed type of cancer among all malignant neoplasms. The decrease in mitotic activity and the death of intact keratinocytes arise due to the constantly renewing epithelium being highly sensitive to ionizing radiation.

Aim: The aim of the study is immunohistochemical evaluation of the proliferative-apoptotic balance of keratinocytes, the fibrous component of the skin, and the expression of pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines after single or fractional local electron irradiation.

A synthesis of 2-(2,2,2-trichloroethoxy)-(3,4,6-tri-O-acetyl-1,2-dideoxy-α-d-galactopyrano)-[2,1-d]-2-oxazoline - a previously unknown 2-alkoxy glyco-[2,1-d]-2-oxazoline derivative with d-galacto configuration was carried out. Glycosylating activity of the obtained galactooxazoline has been studied and it has been shown that in the presence of a weak protic acid, such as sym-collidinium triflate, this substance exhibits properties of a reactive and 1,2-trans-stereoselective glycosyl donor. The homopolymerization reaction of oxazoline derivatives of sugars has been found to proceed under the same conditions, leading to the formation of pseudo-oligosaccharide products.

Mediterranean spotted fever (MSF) has been diagnosed clinically in the Crimean Peninsula since the 1930s. We describe the recent illness of an elderly patient from Crimea who had developed a classic triad of MSF symptoms consisting of fever, maculopapular rash, and eschar. Clinical diagnosis of rickettsiosis was confirmed using real-time PCR and sequencing of 4 protein genes.

Introduction: Innovative large language model (LLM)-powered chatbots, which are extremely popular nowadays, represent potential sources of information on resuscitation for the general public. For instance, the chatbot-generated advice could be used for purposes of community resuscitation education or for just-in-time informational support of untrained lay rescuers in a real-life emergency.

Study Objective: This study focused on assessing performance of two prominent LLM-based chatbots, particularly in terms of quality of the chatbot-generated advice on how to give help to a non-breathing victim.

Rheumatoid arthritis refers to joint diseases of unclear etiology whose final stages can lead to unbearable pain and complete immobility of the affected joints. As one of the most widely known diseases of the joints, it serves as a study target for a large number of research groups and pharmaceutical companies. Modern treatment with anti-inflammatory drugs, including janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors, monoclonal antibodies, and botanicals (polyphenols, glycosides, alkaloids, etc.

An expert consensus–based checklist for quality appraisal of educational resources on adult basic life support: a Delphi study.

Clin Exp Emerg Med

December 2023

The full list of the Delphi Study Investigators is listed in the Acknowledgments

Objective: Given the lack of a unified tool for appraising the quality of educational resources for lay-rescuer delivery of adult basic life support (BLS), this study aimed to develop an appropriate evaluation checklist based on a consensus of international experts.

Methods: In a two-round Delphi study, participating experts completed questionnaires to rate each item of a predeveloped 72-item checklist indicating agreement that an item should be utilized to evaluate the conformance of an adult BLS educational resource with resuscitation guidelines. Consensus on item inclusion was defined as a rating of ≥7 points from ≥75% of experts.

Chemical insecticides and biological methods of control have a number of disadvantages that can be improved by using oligonucleotide insecticides. In this article, we present, for the first time, the results of using oligonucleotide insecticides, for which the target sequence is an internal transcribed spacer (ITS) in a polycistronic rRNA transcript.

Climate change creates favourable conditions for the growth of insect populations. Today, the world is seeing an increase in the number of insect pest infestations associated with a long-term increase in the average temperature of climatic systems. For example, local invasions of Maskell, a citrus pest recognized worldwide, have increased in size and number in recent years.

This paper analyzes the etymology of the Russian names of the organs of the urinary system (kidney, ureter, urinary bladder, urethra) and their separate parts (renal pelvis). It is shown that Russian anatomical terms originate from the root morphemes of the Indo-European language group, which convey morphological, physiological or anatomical features of this or that organ. At the moment Russian terminology is widely used in the study of anatomy and other fundamental and medical sciences in universities and clinical practice along with common Latin names and eponyms of names of these or other structures.

Unlabelled: Prostate cancer progression to the lethal metastatic castration-resistant phenotype (mCRPC) is driven by αv integrins and is associated with Golgi disorganization and activation of the ATF6 branch of unfolded protein response (UPR). Overexpression of integrins requires N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase-V (MGAT5)-mediated glycosylation and subsequent cluster formation with Galectin-3 (Gal-3). However, the mechanism underlying this altered glycosylation is missing.

In terms of the incidence among all tumors, skin cancer is on top, with the most deadly among them being melanoma. The search for new therapeutic agents to combat melanoma is very relevant. In our opinion, antisense oligonucleotides (ASO) aimed at suppressing the genes responsible for their viability in cancer cells give hope for treatment, which makes it possible to eliminate cancer cells near the tumor site both before and after surgery.

Introduction: The ever-growing penetration of internet and mobile technologies into society suggests that people will increasingly use web searches to seek health-related information, including advice on first aid in medical emergencies. When a bystander is incompetent in first aid and has no immediate support from Emergency Medical Services (EMS), as it happens in low-resource settings or in disasters, instructions found online could be the sole driver for administering first aid before arrival of professional help.

Study Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate quality of advice on first aid generated by a web search engine's question-answering system (QAS) in response to search queries concerning provision of help in common health emergencies.

Here we experimentally demonstrate the topological Faraday effect-the polarization rotation caused by the orbital angular momentum of light. It is found that the Faraday effect of the optical vortex beam passing through a transparent magnetic dielectric film differs from the Faraday effect for a plane wave. The additional contribution to the Faraday rotation depends linearly on the topological charge and radial number of the beam.
