We demonstrate optical nonthermal excitation of exchange dominated spin waves of different orders in a magnetophotonic crystal. The magnetophotonic structure consists of a thin magnetic film and a Bragg stack of nonmagnetic layers to provide a proper nonuniform interference pattern of the inverse Faraday effect induced by light in the magnetic layer. We found a phenomenon of the pronounced phase slippage of the inverse Faraday effect distribution when the pump wavelength is within the photonic band gap of the structure.

The current state of affairs in the field of using polymer hydrogels for the creation of innovative systems for signal and image processing, of which computing is a special case, is analyzed. Both of these specific examples of systems capable of forming an alternative to the existing semiconductor-based computing technology, but assuming preservation of the used algorithmic basis, and non-trivial signal converters, the nature of which requires transition to fundamentally different algorithms of data processing, are considered. It is shown that the variability of currently developed information processing systems based on the use of polymers, including polymer hydrogels, leads to the need to search for complementary algorithms.

Article Synopsis
  • Social media, particularly TikTok, has the potential to improve public awareness on how to handle generalized seizures, but the quality of information shared is concerning.* -
  • A study analyzed TikTok videos with over 100,000 views on first aid for seizures, revealing that they often omit crucial guidelines and contain misleading advice, such as improper movement of the person during a seizure.* -
  • The findings highlight the urgent need for research and regulations to address the spread of misleading information on TikTok to prevent potentially harmful actions in seizure situations.*

Twenty Years of International Research on First Aid: A Bibliometric Visualization of Scientific Outputs.

Health Secur

October 2024

Alexei A. Birkun, MD, DMedSc, is an Associate Professor, Department of General Surgery, Anaesthesiology, Resuscitation and Emergency Medicine, Medical Institute named after S.I. Georgievsky of V.I. Vernadsky Crimean Federal University, Simferopol, Russian Federation.

Although first aid research is a wide-ranging and diverse field within medical science, so far no attempts have been made to provide a holistic view of international scientific outputs in the first aid domain. To determine strategic directions for conducting future studies, it is important to understand the status of the research, including its frontiers and blind spots. This study explored the global landscape of first aid research using bibliometric visualization analysis of relevant literature published within the last 20 years.

Public Comments on social media Regarding Self-management of Foreign Body Airway Obstruction; a Letter to Editor.

Arch Acad Emerg Med

September 2024

Department of General Surgery, Anesthesiology, Resuscitation and Emergency Medicine, Medical Institute, V.I. Vernadsky Crimean Federal University, Simferopol, Russian Federation.

Foreign body airway obstruction (FBAO) frequently occurs unwitnessed. In the absence of external assistance and the ability to rapidly reach help, immediate self-management of FBAO could be the only way to avoid impending death from asphyxia. In this letter, relevant evidence of real-life self-management of severe FBAO from public comments posted on social media were gathered and reported.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis remains a relevant problem of the healthcare system with an unfavorable prognosis for patients due to progressive fibrous remodeling of the pulmonary parenchyma. Starting with the damage of the epithelial lining of alveoli, pulmonary fibrosis is implemented through a cascade of complex mechanisms, the crucial of which is the TGF-β/SMAD-mediated pathway, involving various cell populations. Considering that a number of the available drugs (pirfenidone and nintedanib) have only limited effectiveness in slowing the progression of fibrosis, the search and justification of new approaches aimed at regulating the immune response, cellular aging processes, programmed cell death, and transdifferentiation of cell populations remains relevant.

Article Synopsis
  • Research is focusing on developing high-quality products with antioxidants due to growing demand, especially in whiskey, where knowledge about its antioxidant properties is limited.
  • This study examines how the aging conditions of whiskey affect its phenolic composition and antioxidant capacities using various analytical methods.
  • Findings include the creation of whiskey samples with enhanced antioxidant properties by utilizing alcoholic extracts from grape stems, which could lead to improved monitoring techniques and new alcoholic products rich in beneficial compounds.

Background: This study investigated the ultraviolet (UV) absorption spectra of various types and ages of grape wines and the correlation these spectra presented with their phenolic constituents. Firstly, the differences in UV spectra were characterized for different wine samples, depending on their type and age.

Methods: The following methods were used in this study: ultraviolet visible spectrophotometry, Folin-Ciocalteu spectrophotometric method, high-performance liquid chromatography.

The syntheses, structures, luminescence and magnetic properties of a new series of Ln(III) complexes of the formula [Ln(L)(HO)(DMF)][Ln(L)] (in which HL is ,'-ethylaminebis[1-phenyl-3-methyl-4-formylimino-2-pyrazoline-5-one]; Ln(III) - Gd (1), Tb (2), or Dy (3) ions). The crystal structures were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction measurements for all the above-mentioned complexes. The crystals of these compounds consist of cationic [Ln(L)(HO)(DMF)] and anionic [Ln(L)] moieties which form a 3D supramolecular architecture by the H-bonds and electrostatic forces.

This article considers the possibility of using the bioelectrography method to identify the pathology of internal organs. It is shown that with the currently existing methods, there is no possibility of the automatic detection of diseases or abnormalities in the functioning of a particular organ, or of the definition of combined pathology. It has been revealed that the use of various classifiers makes it possible to expand the field of pathology and choose the most optimal method for determining a particular disease.

Unlabelled: Search of new rational ways to increase the effectiveness of treatment and rehabilitation measures for patients with psoriasis vulgaris continues to be one of the urgent problems in modern clinical dermatology.

Objective: To carry out a comparative analysis of the impact of different variants of sanatorium-resort treatment (SRT) - pelotherapy and pelotherapy in combination with intravenous laser blood irradiation (ILBI) - on the level of IL-17 and TNF-a, dermatological status, psychoemotional state and quality of life (QL) assessment of patients with psoriasis vulgaris.

Material And Methods: A naturalistic comparative study included 120 patients with psoriasis vulgaris, who were undergoing SRT: 57 patients in the pelotherapy group and 63 in the group of pelotherapy in combination with ILBI.

Department of Molecular Genetics and Biotechnologies, Institute of Biochemical Technologies, Ecology and Pharmacy, V.I. Vernadsky Crimean Federal University, Simferopol 295007, Crimea, Ukraine; Laboratory of Entomology and Phytopathology, Dendrology and Landscape Architecture, Nikita Botanical Gardens-National Scientific Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Yalta 298648, Crimea, Ukraine.

Diaspididae are one of the most serious small herbivorous insects with piercing-sucking mouth parts and are major economic pests as they attack and destroy perennial ornamentals and food crops. Chemical control is the primary management approach for armored scale infestation. However, chemical insecticides do not possess selectivity in action and not always effective enough for the control of armored scale insects.
