The synthesis of the first conjugates of acridine with cobalt bis(dicarbollide) are reported. A novel 9-azido derivative of acridine was prepared through the reaction of 9-methoxyacridine with NCHCHNH, and its solid-state molecular structure was determined via single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The azidoacridine was used in a copper (I)-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition reaction with cobalt bis(dicarbollide)-based terminal alkynes to give the target 1,2,3-triazoles.

Steroid derivatives modified with nitrogen containing heterocycles are known to inhibit activity of steroidogenic enzymes, decrease proliferation of cancer cells and attract attention as promising anticancer agents. Specifically, 2'-(3β-hydroxyandrosta-5,16-dien-17-yl)-4',5'-dihydro-1',3'-oxazole 1a potently inhibited proliferation of prostate carcinoma cells. In this study we synthesized and investigated five new derivatives of 3β-hydroxyandrosta-5,16-diene comprising 4'-methyl or 4'-phenyl substituted oxazolinyl cycle 1 (b-f).

CD133 is an extensively studied marker of the most malignant tumor cell population, designated as cancer stem cells (CSCs). However, the function of this glycoprotein and its involvement in cell regulatory cascades are still poorly understood. Here we show a positive correlation between the level of CD133 plasma membrane expression and the proliferative activity of cells of the Caco-2, HT-29, and HUH7 cancer cell lines.

Nevertheless, cases of a more favorable disease course with late metastasis and slow progression have been described. In 2017, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) in the 4 edition of the Classification of Tumors of the Endocrine Organs identified histological variants of ACC, such as classical, oncocytic, myxoid, and sarcomatoid ones, indicating the morphological heterogeneity of this tumor.

The ring rearrangement metathesis (RRM) of a - diastereomer mixture of methyl 3-allyl-3a,6-epoxyisoindole-7-carboxylates derived from cheap, accessible and renewable furan-based precursors in the presence of a new class of Hoveyda-Grubbs-type catalysts, comprising an N→Ru coordinate bond in a six-membered ring, results in the difficult-to-obtain natural product-like cyclopenta[]furo[2,3-]pyrroles. In this process, only one diastereomer with a -arrangement of the 3-allyl fragment relative to the 3a,6-epoxy bridge enters into the rearrangement, while the -isomers polymerize almost completely under the same conditions. The tested catalysts are active in the temperature range from 60 to 120 °C at a concentration of 0.

The aim of the study was to investigate the characteristics of immunoarrays (microarrays) produced by co-polymerization immobilization and non-contact printing techniques for enhancing the capacities of syphilis diagnostics. In diagnostic context immunoarrays of both protein immobilization techniques have shown high sensitivity and specificity together with potency to differentiate syphilis stages in serologic assays. The article discloses the advantages and limitations of non-contact printing techniques as well as the results and problems revealed in the study.

Studies of the last decade have demonstrated that the morphological and immunophenotypic patterns of adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) have a high heterogeneity in both the occurrence of various tumors and the development of a solitary tumor. Carcinogenesis of ACC, like most neoplastic processes, is associated with mutations in at least 15 driver genes, with a wide range of chromosomal aberrations, epigenomic changes, and alterations of the microRNA profile. According to the literature, isolated genetic damage is also insufficient for the manifestation of the malignant phenotype of adrenocortical cells.

The aim of the study was to characterize the dynamics of immunoglobulin IgG and IgM level in syphilis patients serum at different stages of the disease before and after the therapy towards 12 diagnostic antigens of T. pallidum in an microarray assay and to evaluate these data as possible prognostic markers. Rat glioma cell line C6 expressing human poliovirus receptor (PVR) and susceptible to polioviruses (C6-PVR-BFP) was used to produce a clone with knockout of IFNα/β (Ifnar1) receptor subunit 1 gene (Ifnar1). The sensitivity of C6-PVR-BFP cells to the vaccine strain of poliovirus type 3 (PV3) depended on the signaling pathways of the cell response to type 1 IFN. Using the model of subcutaneous tumor xenografts, we demonstrated oncolytic activity of PV3 against C6-PVR-BFP cells that depended on the expression of PVR and increased considerably upon disturbances in IFN response pathways.

Papillary carcinoma is the most commonly diagnosed form of well-differentiated thyroid cancer that is generally characterized by a favorable prognosis. However, a number of relatively rare variants of this tumor, such as papillary carcinoma of high cells, papillary carcinoma of columnar cells, a diffuse sclerosing variant and recently described cancer of shoe nail cell type, are characterized by a less favorable clinical course, a high frequency of distant metastasis, and relatively low overall and relapse-free survival rates. In this connection, it is important to recognize these options at the stage of a primary morphological study.

Replicative ability of 5 oncolytic enterovirus strains was evaluated on a panel of 18 human normal and tumor cells. The capacity of each cell line to support replication of enterovirus strains varied. Cell lines weakly replicating one virus could be highly sensitive to another viral strain.

An immunochip for multiple parallel detection of specific serum IgG in serological screening for syphilis is based on the use of an extended array of Treponema pallidum recombinant proteins and includes traditionally used immunodominant antigens (Tp15, Tp17, Tp47, and TmpA) and new synthetic proteins (Tp0277, Tp0319, Tp0453, Tp0684, Tp0965, and Tp1038). The use of individual antigens has demonstrated high analytical value of Tp0277 (periplasmatic C-terminal protease), Tp0319 (cytoplasmic membrane-associated lipoprotein TmpC), and external membrane-associated protein Tp0453 with transporting function, all of them improving significantly the efficiency of screening for syphilis in comparison with the traditional array of antigens. Multiparametric analysis of the results obtained on the immunochip with the use of linear discriminant analysis confirmed the efficiency of extended array of T.

Activation of lysosomal proteolysis and increased coenzyme Q10 level were revealed in the liver and brain of rats with individual typological features under conditions of food deprivation. Changes in cathepsin B activity in these tissues were different in behaviorally active and passive animals. We observed indirect modulating effect of coenzyme Q10 in the regulation of activity of lysosomal endopeptidases in the brain of animals with different behavior during adaptation to metabolic stress.

The protein VCP/p97 (also named CDC48 and TER94) belongs to a type II subfamily of the AAA+ATPases and controls cellular proteostasis by acting upstream of proteasomes in the ubiquitin-proteasome protein degradation pathway. The function of VCP/p97 in the baculovirus infection cycle in insect cells remains unknown. Here, we identified VCP/p97 in the fall armyworm Spodoptera frugiperda (Sf9) cells and analyzed the replication of the Autographa californica multiple nucleopolyhedrovirus, AcMNPV, in Sf9 cells in which the VCP/p97 function was inhibited.

A rare example of chemospecificity in the tandem Diels-Alder reaction of activated alkynes and bis-dienes has been revealed. The reaction between bis-furyl dienes and DMAD occurs at 25-80 °C and leads to kinetically controlled "pincer" adducts, 4a,8a-disubstituted 1,4:5,8-diepoxynaphthalenes. On the contrary, only thermodynamically controlled "domino" adducts (2,3-disubstituted 1,4:5,8-diepoxynaphthalenes) are formed in the same reaction at 140 °C.
