Cancerous tissues undergo extensive changes to their cellular environments that differentiate them from healthy tissues. These changes include changes in extracellular pH and Ca concentrations, and the exposure of phosphatidylserine (PS) to the extracellular environment, which can modulate the interaction of peptides and proteins with the plasma membrane. Deciphering the molecular mechanisms of such interactions is critical for advancing the knowledge-based design of cancer-targeting molecular tools, such as pH-low insertion peptide (pHLIP).

Interspecific hybridization can disrupt canonical gametogenic pathways, leading to the emergence of clonal and hemiclonal organisms. Such gametogenic alterations usually include genome endoreplication and/or premeiotic elimination of one of the parental genomes. The hybrid frog exploits genome endoreplication and genome elimination to produce haploid gametes with chromosomes of only one parental species.

Due to its unique redox chemistry, nanoceria is considered as potent free radical scavenger and antioxidant. However, their protective capacity in aging organisms remains controversial. To detect the anti-aging effects associated with the redox activity of 2 and 10 nm nano-CeO2, different test systems were used, including in vitro analysis, in situ assay of mitochondria function and in vivo studies of suitable nano-CeO on aging of male Wistar rats from 22 months-old to the end of life.

Introduction: An analysis of the literature on the painkillers long used in traditional medicine, which are isolated from plant materials, has shown that many of them are alkylamides of various carboxylic acids. This fact served as the basis for the study of a large group of N-alkyl-4- methyl-2,2-dioxo-1H-2λ,1-benzothiazine-3-carboxamides as potential new analgesics. The objects of the study were synthesized in the traditional way involving the initial conversion of 4-methyl- 2,2-dioxo-1H-2λ,1- benzothiazine-3-carboxylic acid to imidazolide, in which imidazolide was used as an acylating agent.

The two major global immunization agenda framings (Missed Opportunity for Immunisation (MOI) vs. Immunisation Defaulting) are interchangeably and inappropriately used in public health research and practice, with flawed or misleading strategies recommended and adopted in various settings around the world. This is demonstrated by the fact that many opportunities to incorporate findings from immunization coverage research into policy are squandered.

It is known that fullerenes are poorly soluble in polar solvents, but readily form colloidal solutions in such media. These solutions are typically solvophobic (hydrophobic when prepared in water), that is, thermodynamically unstable colloidal systems with negatively charged particles. To understand the stability factors of a colloidal system, the thresholds for coagulation of a sol or suspension by electrolytes are of key importance.

Inroduction: The results of experimental and clinical studies in recent years indicate that the transplantation of multipotent mesenchymal stromal cells (MMSCs) is a possible approach for the "restoration" of the immune system of patients with autoimmune diseases, in particular, rheumatoid arthritis. However, the strength and duration of the effect vary greatly, which indicates incomplete correction of the tested parameters, thereby opening up the prospect of improving this method of treatment by choosing dose-time parameters and methods of their administration. The aim of this research was to determine the indices of cellular immunity in animals with adjuvant arthritis and therapy with cryopreserved MMSCs derived from adipose and cartilage tissues.

The characteristics of the individual's time perspective in relation to changes in social, economic, and political conditions are of major conceptual interest. We assessed the time orientations of 1588 Ukrainian students living in two different regions (western and south-eastern Ukraine) with the Zimbardo Time Perspective Inventory (ZTPI) before (2010-2013) and during (2014-2016) the socioeconomic, political, and military crises which started in 2014, eight years before the war in 2022. We applied ANOVAs with the ZTPI dimensions as dependent variables and the period of testing (precrisis, postcrisis) as an independent variable for the two Ukrainian regions separately.

Background: The burden of malaria remains the highest in sub-Saharan Africa and South Sudan is not an exception. The country has borne the brunt of years of chronic warfare and remains endemic of malaria, with increasing mortality and morbidity. Limited data still exists on factors influencing the recurrence of severe malaria, especially in emergency contexts such as South Sudan, affected by various conflicts and humanitarian situations.

Direct Spread Spectrum Technology for Data Hiding in Audio.

Sensors (Basel)

April 2022

Department of Computer Science and Automatics, University of Bielsko-Biala, Willowa St. 2, 43309 Bielsko-Biala, Poland.

Direct spread spectrum technology is traditionally used in radio communication systems with multiple access, for example, in CDMA standards, in global satellite navigation systems, in Wi-Fi network wireless protocols, etc. It ensures high security and reliability of information transfer. In addition, spread spectrum technology provides the transmitted signals with a noise-like appearance, thus hiding the semantic content of the messages.

New lanthanide dimethyl-N-benzoylamidophosphate (HL) based tetrakis-complexes NEt [LnL ] (Ln =La, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy) are reported. The complexes are characterized by means of NMR, IR, absorption, and luminescent spectroscopy as well as by elemental, X-Ray, and thermal gravimetric analyses. The phenyl groups of the four ligands of the complex anion are directed towards one side, while the methoxy groups are directed in the opposite side, which makes the complexes under consideration structurally similar to calixarenes.

We report a prediction of the optical effect apparently not discussed earlier. As known both from theory and experiment, the gratings of flat graphene strips lying on dielectric substrates display moderate-Q resonances on the strip plasmon modes in the H-polarization case. In the plasmon resonances, high reflectance and absorbance are observed.

Triple-negative breast cancer: current treatment strategies and factors of negative prognosis.

J Med Life

February 2022

Department of Cancer Surgery, Radiation Therapy and Palliative Care, Kharkiv Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education, Kharkiv, Ukraine.

Article Synopsis
  • Breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer among women and poses a significant mortality risk for working-age women.
  • 10-20% of breast cancer cases are triple-negative, which is linked to aggressive behavior, faster growth, and a poorer prognosis, leading to bolder surgical and systemic treatment approaches.
  • Current research emphasizes finding a balance between radical surgical care for long-term survival and achieving favorable cosmetic outcomes, while the best treatment methods remain unclear and need more investigation.

α-Aminoamidines are promising reagents for the synthesis of a diverse family of pyrimidine ring derivatives. Here, we demonstrate the use of α-aminoamidines for the synthesis of a new series of 5,6,7,8-tetrahydroquinazolines by their reaction with bis-benzylidene cyclohexanones. The reaction occurs in mild conditions and is characterized by excellent yields.
