Background: The folate metabolism pathway plays an integral part in DNA synthesis, methylation, and repair. Methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) and methylenetetrahydrofolate dehydrogenase (MTHFD1) are both enzymes that are involved in this pathway, and the single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in genes coding for them have modulatory effects on DNA expression. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between MTHFR C677T (rs1801133) and MTHFD1 G1958A (rs2236225) polymorphisms and the risk of developing breast cancer in Georgian women.

Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) has widespread popularity due to its immune-modulation effects in many cancers. Optimal settings to apply RFA in pancreatic cancer, in which the advanced stage of the tumor at the diagnosis makes various therapeutic approaches fail, are still demanding. We report the case of a patient with unresectable pancreatic cancer in which 3 repetitive RFA has been applied over a period of 3 months.

In this research, in order to establish the role of neuroendocrine mechanisms in the processes of immunomodulation, the effect of propranolol on the cytokine profile in an experimental model of human T lymphocytes (Jurkat cells) in vitro was investigated. Jurkat cells were incubated under standard conditions. Stimulation of the Jurkat cells was performed by incubation with Phytohemagglutinin (PHA) (50 μg/ml) in the presence of propanonol (10-4 M) and without it at 370 for 24 hours.

At present, our country continues intensive research to find and introduce into practice new natural medicinal preparations made from ecologically clean endemic plants of Georgia. An example of such studies in the Iveria-Pharma company is the domestic drug Lazolex (extract of the pericarpium of an unripe walnut), which has passed the necessary preclinical tests and began to be used in the clinic as an antiherpetic agent. On healthy volunteers, we found positive immunotropic effects of Lazolex.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explored the use of liposomes (DPPA and DPPC) to enhance the effectiveness of antioxidant compounds like vitamin C (hydrophilic) and vitamin E (lipophilic) in normal MDCK and tumor Jurkat T cells.
  • The effectiveness of vitamins C, E, and their combination with these liposomes was found to be influenced by how well the liposomes integrate with the cell membranes and release the vitamins.
  • The findings suggest that these liposomes could selectively regulate antioxidant activity, which is significant for developing targeted antitumor therapies and protective agents for healthy tissues during radiotherapy.

The goal of our study was to establish the anti- proapoptotic activity of the common in Georgia crops on the Jurkat and MDCK cells. Extracts of various varieties of beans (Tirkmela, Batumi meadow, Shulavera, Udelebi, as well as green peas, Lens Culinaris lentils, soy beans) were added to the intact or incubated under oxidative stress conditions Jurkat and MDCK cells. Cell viability (apoptosis intensity) was determined by a cell proliferative activity test (MTT test).

The purpose of our study was to determine effects of green tea extracts on the Jurkat cells incubated under oxidative stress conditions. The research was conducted on leukemic human mature T cells (Jurkat cells). For the modelling of oxidative stress 30% hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) (Sigma) (10 μl, 25 μl 50 μl and 100 μl) was added to Jurkat cell suspension with subsequent incubation for 4, 6, 8 and 24 h.
