Primary intrarenal hemangioma - A series of 39 cases.

Ann Diagn Pathol

January 2025

Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston, USA. Electronic address:

Intrarenal hemangiomas lack concise clinicopathologic information, due to the predominance of single case reports and inclusion of other vascular neoplasms and hemangiomas of perirenal, hilar, and renal vein origin. Herein, in this multi-institutional study we evaluate clinicopathologic features of 39 intrarenal hemangiomas. The median age was 62 years (range = 27-94 years; 2:1 male to female ratio), with left-sided predominance (left = 21, right = 13; one case was bilateral).

Onset of pancreatic cancer before and after acute pancreatitis: A multicenter longitudinal cohort study.

Pancreatology

December 2024

Institute of Pancreatic Diseases, Semmelweis University, Budapest, Hungary; Institute for Translational Medicine, Medical School, University of Pécs, Pécs, Hungary; Centre for Translational Medicine, Semmelweis University, Budapest, Hungary; Translational Pancreatology Research Group, Interdisciplinary Centre of Excellence for Research Development and Innovation, University of Szeged, Szeged, Hungary. Electronic address:

Background: Pancreatic cancer (PC) is a leading cause of cancer mortality, often diagnosed at advanced stages. Acute pancreatitis (AP), particularly idiopathic cases, may serve as an early indicator of PC.

Objective: This multicenter cohort study investigated the incidence of PC before and after an AP episode, focusing on idiopathic AP and the role of pseudocysts as potential early markers for PC development.

Background: An anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear is a risk factor for early osteoarthritis (OA) onset. Generally, ACL reconstruction (ACLR) is associated with better outcomes. However, there is a lack of evidence regarding the effect of operative versus nonoperative treatment for preventing premature knee OA in isolated ACL tears while achieving good functional outcomes.

Background: Follicular dendritic cell sarcoma (FDCS) is a rare low-grade tumor of the lymph nodes, but roughly one-third of the cases emerge from extranodal sites, posing diagnostic challenges.

Case Presentation: In this report, we present the case of a 59-year-old lady who complained of renal colic. During investigation, a kidney tumor was discovered.

Background: The systemic treatment of advanced cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) has seen significant developments in recent years. The anti-PD1 inhibitor cemiplimab has demonstrated efficacy in clinical trials, but real-world data are still limited. Here, we aimed to evaluate the efficacy and the safety of cemiplimab in a real-world clinical setting.

Introduction: The symptoms of obesity hypoventilation syndrome (OHS) may be present for years with concomitant progressive comorbidities, and the condition is frequently diagnosed late as a result of acute-on-chronic hypercapnic respiratory failure. Although some data exist on intensive care unit (ICU) prevalence, mortality and morbidity of OHS, little is known about the ICU mortality of these chronic respiratory failure patients during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Methods: We performed a cross-sectional observational study in five Hungarian Intensive Care Units for 4 months during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Background: Numerous surgical approaches are being used to perform total knee arthroplasty (TKA). This systematic review and network meta-analysis aimed to compare surgical approaches used in TKA regarding postoperative outcomesat different time points.

Methods: We performed a literature search from medical database inception until October 2, 2021.

methylene blue (MB) injection into the main supplying arteries of the colorectal specimen after surgical removal is an uncomplicated technique to support lymph node harvest during pathological evaluation. The primary aim of this randomized, interventional, bicentric trial was to evaluate the impact of MB injection on lymph node yield, with secondary aims assessing the accuracy of lymph node staging and the effect on 5-year overall survival for patients undergoing resection of colorectal cancer. In the study period between December 2013 and August 2015, 200 colorectal resections were performed at two independent onco-surgery centers of Hungary.

The international radiotherapy (RT) expert panel has revised and updated the RT guidelines that were accepted in 2020 at the 4th Hungarian Breast Cancer Consensus Conference, based on new scientific evidence. Radiotherapy after breast-conserving surgery (BCS) is indicated in ductal carcinoma (stage 0), as RT decreases the risk of local recurrence (LR) by 50-60%. In early stage (stage I-II) invasive breast cancer RT remains a standard treatment following BCS.

Background: The common symptoms of multiple sclerosis are fatigue, depression, cognitive dysfunction, pain and sexual dysfunction, which influence the health-related quality of life of the patients.

Objective: We aimed to determine the correlations between the health-related quality of life, the level of disability, fatigue and depression in glatiramer acetate-treated patients with multiple sclerosis in Hungary.

Methods: The Hungarian versions of the Multiple Sclerosis Quality of Life-54, Fatigue Impact Scale and Beck Depression Inventory questionnaires were completed by 428 relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis patients treated with glatiramer acetate from 19 Hungarian centers.

B7 costimulation and intracellular indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase expression in umbilical cord blood and adult peripheral blood.

Biol Blood Marrow Transplant

October 2014

First Department of Pediatrics, Semmelweis University, Budapest, Hungary; MTA-SE Pediatrics and Nephrology Research Group, Budapest, Hungary. Electronic address:

Alterations in the expression of B7 costimulatory molecules and their receptors, as well as differences in the tryptophan (TRP) catabolic pathway, may influence immunological reactivity of umbilical cord blood (UCB) compared with adult peripheral blood (APB) T lymphocytes. We determined the frequency of activated (CD11b(+)) monocytes expressing B7-1, B7-2, B7-H1, and B7-H2, and that of T cells and CD4(+) T helper cells expressing CD28, cytotoxic T lymphocyte antigen 4 (CTLA-4), programmed death-1 receptor, and inducible costimulator of T cells in UCB and APB samples using flow cytometry. We also examined the intracellular expression of indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase (IDO) applying flow cytometry and plasma levels of TRP, kynurenine (KYN), and kynurenic acid using high-performance liquid chromatography.

Autoimmune pancreatitis mimicking pancreatic tumor.

J Surg Case Rep

December 2012

Department of Surgery-Vascular Surgery, Uzsoki Street Hospital, Budapest, Hungary.

Autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP) is a rare disease of unknown pathomechanism. It belongs to the IgG4-related disease family and responds well to steroids, although the relapse rate can reach up to 20-30%. Differentiating AIP from the more common pancreatic cancer can be very challenging.

Tissue Doppler imaging (TDI) was investigated for its applicability for detecting cardiac function and early cardiotoxicity in breast cancer patients treated with anthracyclines. A total of 40 women (age range 18 to 65 years) were enrolled, who had not received anthracyclines previously and had normal systolic and diastolic cardiac function. All healthy patients in the control group were of the same age.
