Nonmelanoma skin cancer (NMSC) represents the most prevalent form of skin cancer globally, with basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) being the most common types. The search for effective chemopreventive and therapeutic agents has led to the exploration of natural compounds, among which resveratrol (RES), a polyphenolic phytoalexin found in grapes, berries, peanuts, and red wine, has garnered significant attention. This comprehensive review aims to elucidate the effects of RES on NMSC, focusing on its mechanisms of action, efficacy in preclinical studies, and potential as a chemopreventive and therapeutic agent.

Introduction: The majority of plastic surgeon specialists note a distinct tendency to increase the number of breasts endoprosthetic surgeries with silicone implants in the Republic of Uzbekistan - the number of such surgeries now reaches 3-4 thousand annually. Breast replacement for aesthetic purposes is widespread throughout the world and has been rapidly spreading in Uzbekistan in recent years. Due to surgical endoprosthetics of mammary gland tissue with silicone implants, both in the early and late postoperative periods, quite often the patient's body experiences typical postoperative pain, which, if subclinical, requires constant dynamic monitoring and preventive rehabilitation procedures.

Article Synopsis
  • Breast cancer has become the most common cancer worldwide, with metastatic cancer being the leading cause of death related to this disease, prompting the development of early detection methods using non-invasive biomarkers.
  • Exosomes, which are tiny vesicles released by cancer cells, play a crucial role in transmitting signals and contain noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs) like miRNAs, lncRNAs, and circRNAs that influence various aspects of breast cancer progression, including growth, metastasis, and immune responses.
  • The study examines the regulatory mechanisms of exosomes in breast cancer and aims to enhance understanding of the functions of exosomal ncRNAs to identify potential biomarkers and improve treatment strategies.

Background: Rotavirus vaccines are moderately protective against illness in high mortality settings compared with low mortality settings. Vaccine effectiveness (VE) evaluations may clarify our understanding of these disparities, but estimates among key subpopulations and against rare outcomes are not available in many analyses due to sample size. We combined 25 datasets from test-negative design case-control evaluations in 24 countries that enrolled children with medically-attended diarrhea, laboratory-confirmed rotavirus stool testing, and documented vaccination status.

  • The subsp. (Rech.f.) Mabb. species is a rare plant found in the Kyzylkum mountains of Uzbekistan, and its population health and distribution hadn't been studied until recently.
  • Research revealed that the plant shows specific adaptations to dry environments, but there's a concerning lack of young plants due to irregular seed renewal.
  • Currently, factors like high soil salinity and organic matter are fragmenting the population, leading to an endangered classification for this species in Uzbekistan.

Many non-natural amino acids can be incorporated by biological systems into coded functional peptides and proteins. For such incorporations to be effective, they must not only be compatible with the desired function but also evade various biochemical error-checking mechanisms. The underlying molecular mechanisms are complex, and this problem has been approached previously largely by expert perception of isomer compatibility, followed by empirical study.

The fast improvement of cyberattacks in the area of the Internet of Things (IoT) presents novel safety challenges to zero-day attacks. Intrusion detection systems (IDS) are generally focused on exact attacks to defend the use of IoT. However, the attacks were unidentified, for IDS still signifies tasks and concerns about consumers' data privacy and safety.

  • The study aimed to optimize mycelial fermentation of the edible and medicinal fungus Inonotus hispidus by controlling the morphology of the inoculum.
  • It found that dispersed mycelial fragments performed better than aggregated clumps, leading to a shorter lag time and higher biomass yield in shake flask cultures.
  • The process was scaled up to a 100-L stirred tank, achieving significantly higher productivities and confirming that inoculum characteristics greatly influence fermentation outcomes.

Chromium is an essential element in various industrial processes, including stainless steel production, electroplating, metal finishing, leather tanning, photography, and textile manufacturing. However, it is also a well-documented contaminant of aquatic systems and agricultural land, posing significant economic and health challenges. The hexavalent form of chromium [Cr(VI)] is particularly toxic and carcinogenic, linked to severe health issues such as cancer, kidney disorders, liver failure, and environmental biomagnification.

Clin Nutr

December 2024

MAFLD Research Center, Department of Hepatology, The First Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University, Wenzhou, China; Key Laboratory of Diagnosis and Treatment for the Development of Chronic Liver Disease in Zhejiang Province, Wenzhou, China. Electronic address:

Background: Metabolic risk factors are a significant cause of global burden among adolescents and young adults, but there is a lack of attention to the burden attributable to these metabolic risk factors globally.

Aims: This study aims to provide comprehensive estimates of five important metabolic risk factors and the attributable disease burden in people aged 15-39 years from 1990 to 2021, based on the Global Burden of Disease Study (GBD) database.

Methods: Global total deaths and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) were used to describe the burden attributable to five common metabolic risk factors, including high fasting plasma glucose (FPG), high low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high systolic blood pressure (SBP), high body mass index (BMI), and kidney dysfunction, in adolescents and young adults.

Distribution of risk factors for cardiovascular diseases has been changing globally, which may account for the discrepant temporal trends of ischemic heart disease (IHD) and stroke. To test the hypothesis and identify potential contributing factors, we designed an ecological study based on the GDB-2019 data and extracted age-standardized incidence rates (ASIRs) of IHD and stroke, and summary exposure values (SEVs) of 87 attributable factors. A declining trend was observed for ASIRs of stroke (globally from 181.
