Background: In Radiotherapy, computation of dose is important since in a small field with heterogeneity, dose is usually computed with discrepancies.

Objective: The present study was aimed to evaluate the dosimetry of treatment planning algorithms in lung equivalent heterogeneous medium for Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT) with step and shoot Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (ss-IMRT), and dynamic Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy (d-IMRT).

Material And Methods: In this experimental study, Computerized Imaging Reference System (CIRS) phantom was used with an inhomogeneous Racemosa wood cylinder for two types of tumors, namely, Left Lung Central Tumor (LCT) and Left Lung Peripheral Tumor (LPT) in the CIRS left lung cavity.

Article Synopsis
  • Preeclampsia is a serious condition that occurs after 20 weeks of pregnancy, marked by high blood pressure, and is being researched for links to vitamin D levels.
  • The study involved 120 patients, comparing those with preeclampsia (high blood pressure) to those with normal blood pressure, to examine the connection between vitamin D levels and the outcomes for mothers and babies.
  • Results showed that women with preeclampsia had significantly lower vitamin D levels compared to normal patients, indicating a potential relationship, though more research is needed on how vitamin D supplementation might affect pregnancy outcomes.

Background Non-union, chronic pain, functional disability, and infection are all things that have been associated with open fractures with severe soft tissue damage leading to the need for additional hospitalization, and sometimes even subsequent surgeries and weeks or months of rehabilitation. Open fractures and severe musculoskeletal injuries are occasionally treated with hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) in an effort to reduce the risk of complications and increase the likelihood of a successful recovery. Methods A prospective randomized controlled study was done between January 2019 and August 2022 at a tertiary health care center including 60 patients with a severe soft tissue injury (Grade II and III) divided into two groups - group-CT (30 patients who received conventional treatment) and group HT (30 patients, who received HBOT in addition to conventional treatment).

Introduction: Neonatal sepsis is an infection in newborns that may be caused by bacteria, fungi, or viruses and has a high death and morbidity rate. The clinical presentation of sepsis may be rather general, making it challenging to make a diagnosis. While blood culture is the most accurate method to diagnose sepsis, it is also time-consuming.

Background: Open defecation continues to prevail among toilet owners despite effective implementation of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin). We conducted this study to determine toilet utilization rates and learn about the barriers to toilet use in the rural areas. By understanding the barriers, physicians can provide targeted education and become better equipped to manage their patients' conditions and advocate for their demands.

Article Synopsis
  • Tuberculosis (TB) in children is often overlooked due to inadequate diagnostic tools, but it is becoming a global health priority, especially with the introduction of the Xpert® MTB/RIF test that improves case detection.
  • In a study involving 70 children suspected of having pulmonary TB, both gastric aspirate and induced sputum samples were collected and analyzed using various diagnostic techniques, including the Xpert MTB/RIF test.
  • The results indicated that gastric aspirate samples provided higher sensitivity compared to induced sputum samples, and using both types of samples together yielded the most accurate detection of pediatric TB.

Introduction In the present study, we aimed to compare the clinical and radiological results of the single lateral locking plate fixation method to the dual plate (DP) fixation method in cases of unstable bicondylar proximal tibial plateau fractures. Materials and methods Fifty-six patients managed surgically with internal fixation for unstable bicondylar tibial plateau fractures (UBTF) (Schatzker type V and type VI or Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Osteosynthesefragen/Orthopaedic Trauma Association {AO/OTA} type 41-C) over 36 months from January 2017 to December 2020 were included in this prospective study. All the fractures were fixed surgically either using dual locking plates through double incisions (DP group) or with a single lateral locking plate (single plate {SP} group).

Background Acute appendicitis (AA) is the most common surgical emergency worldwide. Delay in diagnosis of disease often leads to serious complications such as perforation appendicitis (PA) and gangrenous appendicitis (GA). Aims and objectives The purpose of the study is to document clinicopathological outcomes in pediatric age group patients in a tertiary health care center.

Introduction: Open/close reduction (OR/CR) and internal fixation (IF) of displaced fractures of distal tibia with either a medial or anterolateral plate is a commonly performed procedure. Anterolateral plating avoids an incision along the medial subcutaneous border of tibia and has been shown to have reduced risk of wound complications. The aim of our study was to determine the functional outcome of these fractures treated with anterolateral and medial distal tibial locking compression plates.

Background: In India, 22% to 39% of the ageing population suffers from degenerative knee osteoarthritis (OA), making it the most prevalent joint disorder in the knee. MMP-1, MMP-3, and MMP-9 protein expression levels have all been associated with OA. The aim of the present study was to establish a relationship between synovial fluid levels of matrix metalloproteinases (MMP-1, MMP-3, and MMP-9), and tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) with different Kellgren-Lawrence Grading scale as per the severity of knee osteoarthritis (OA).

Lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) are spherical vesicles composed of ionizable lipids that are neutral at physiological pH. Despite their benefits, unmodified LNP drug delivery systems have substantial drawbacks, including a lack of targeted selectivity, a short blood circulation period, and in vivo instability. lipid-polymer hybrid nanoparticles (LPHNPs) are the next generation of nanoparticles, having the combined benefits of polymeric nanoparticles and liposomes.

Introduction:  Maternal hypotension is a common complication of spinal anesthesia in cesarean section and requires immediate intervention. Phenylephrine is most commonly used as a vasopressor agent for the treatment of hypotension due to subarachnoid block. Our aim was to compare the bolus dose of 50 µg of phenylephrine with a fixed infusion at 50 µg.

Rapunzel syndrome with gastric perforation is an extremely rare presentation of trichobezoars of the stomach. Trichobezoars may vary greatly in presentation ranging from benign symptoms like vague abdominal pain and anorexia to grave complications like perforation peritonitis. A sincere evaluation of any underlying psychiatric illnesses, usually trichotillomania and trichophagia, holds the key to preventing recurrences in patients of trichobezoar.

The mastoid emissary vein connects the posterior auricular vein to the sigmoid sinus and varies in size, number, location, and course, resulting in clinical complications. This study was conducted in response to the vast clinical implications associated with this vein. The aim of this review is to highlight and describe the prevalence, varied morphology, and morphometry of the mastoid emissary vein, how these varied parameters cause clinical complications, and how these can be rectified and avoided.

The limitations associated with the conventional treatment of cancer have necessitated the design and development of novel drug delivery systems based mainly on nanotechnology. These novel drug delivery systems include various kinds of nanoparticles, such as polymeric nanoparticles, solid lipid nanoparticles, nanostructured lipid carriers, hydrogels, and polymeric micelles. Among the various kinds of novel drug delivery systems, chitosan-based nanoparticles have attracted the attention of researchers to treat cancer.

  • Black tongue is a harmless condition caused by the growth of dead skin cells, leading to a hairy appearance, often linked to poor oral hygiene and dietary choices.
  • A 30-year-old woman visited the hospital for bad breath and a black tongue issue that persisted despite antibiotic treatment, prompting the prescription of fluconazole.
  • Further medical evaluation uncovered underlying health issues, resulting in the diagnosis of Rhupus Syndrome, which is a combination of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA).
