Gluteal muscle contracture (GMC) is a chronic fibrotic disease of gluteal muscles due to multiple etiologies. The main pathologic process is characterized by proliferation of fibroblasts and excessive accumulation of collagen in the extracellular matrix of the muscle. Sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) is a bioactive sphingolipid and has been reported to be associated with various fibrotic diseases.

Hepatitis B DNA vaccine-polycation nano-complexes enhancing immune response by percutaneous administration with microneedle.

Biol Pharm Bull

February 2014

Department of Pharmacy, Urumqi General Hospital, Lanzhou Military Region of PLA, 359 Youhao North Road, Urumqi 830000, China.

Percutaneous immune method is becoming an attractive alternative for DNA vaccine as a lot of antigen presenting cells are existed in the viable epidermis. However, due to the barrier function of stratum corneum, it would be hard for DNA vaccine to reach the viable epidermis of the skin. In order to deliver the DNA vaccine successfully cross the stratum corneum, pentagram silicon microneedle array was prepared in this study, and fluorescently labeled nanoparticle was taken as the model to observe the situation inside the skin processed by microneedle.

The aim of this study was to investigate the predictive role of the orbital somatostatin receptor scintigraphy with (99m)Tc-EDDA/HYNIC-TOC ((99m)Tc-TOC) to detect clinical stage of Graves' ophthalmopathy and the response to corticosteroid therapy. The subjects of the experiment were 46 patients with Graves' ophthalmopathy (GO) and four volunteers without eye disease or GO as the normal group (NG). Single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT), computed tomography (CT) and the left and right lateral position planar imaging of the heads of the all subjects were obtained 4 h after the intravenous injection of 555 MBq of (99m)Tc-TOC.

Acute exposure to high altitudes can cause neurological dysfunction due to decreased oxygen availability to the brain. In this study, the protective effects of Huperzine A on cognitive deficits along with oxidative and apoptotic damage, due to acute hypobaric hypoxia, were investigated in male Sprague-Dawley rats. Rats were exposed to simulated hypobaric hypoxia at 6,000 m in a specially fabricated animal decompression chamber while receiving daily Huperzine A orally at the dose of 0.

In this work, a new sample-preparation method based on hollow-fiber liquid-phase microextraction (HF-LPME) was developed for analysis of magnoflorine in rat plasma. Analysis was accomplished by reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), with ultraviolet detection by use of a photodiode-array detector. An orthogonal array design (OAD) was found to be effective for optimization of major conditions which may affect the efficiency of HF-LPME.

The purpose of study was to investigate the effects of L-arginine and cilostazol on platelet-activation and aggregation reserve in vitro, so as to provide proof for selecting reversible activation-inhibitors for platelets lyophilization. Activation and function of platelets were investigated by using flow cytometry with the CD62p and PAC-1 expression and re-expression after being activated by thrombin, and by means of platelet aggregation reaction to thrombin, ADP and propyl gallate, as well as coagulation activity of platelets. The results showed that expression of CD62p and PAC-1 increased after being pretreated.

February 2005

Clinical Medical Research Institute, Urumqi General Hospital, Lanzhou Command, Urumqi, Xinjiang, 830000, P. R. China.

Background & Objective: Apoptosis is a kind of evolutional high conservative cell death. Transferring high active pro-apoptotic molecules into cancer cells to induce apoptosis is a potential strategy for cancer gene therapy. Based on our previous generation of reconstructed human caspase-8, which can continuously induce apoptosis of cervical cancer cell line HeLa, by reversing its large and small subunits, this study was designed to investigate the pro-apoptotic efficiencies of 3 reconstructed human caspase-8 (Casp8CD, Rev8, and Rev8L) on HeLa cells, and to explore the feasibility of reconstructed human caspase-8 as potential apoptosis-inducing candidates.
