Background: Bubble continuous positive airway pressure (bCPAP) is a low-cost, non-invasive respiratory support therapy for children with respiratory distress, but its effectiveness is dependent on the context. We aimed to understand contextual factors influencing bCPAP implementation for children aged 1-59 months in low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs) and to develop a theory explaining how these factors influence implementation outcomes.
Methods: In this realist review, we generated an initial programme theory comprising candidate context-mechanism-outcome configurations (CMOCs) via review of key references and team discussion.

A social scene is particularly informative when people are distinguishable. To understand somebody amid a "cocktail party" chatter, we automatically index their voice. This ability is underpinned by parallel processing of vocal spectral contours from speech sounds, but it has not yet been established how this occurs in the brain's cortex.

The structural and functional integrity of conduits used for coronary artery bypass grafting is critical for graft patency. Disruption of endothelial integrity and endothelial dysfunction are incurred during conduit harvesting subsequent to mechanical or thermal injury and during conduit storage prior to grafting, leading to acute thrombosis and early graft failure. Late graft failure, in particular that of vein grafts, is precipitated by progressive atherogenesis.

The ingestion of cotyledons or seeds of cocklebur () causes poisoning as a result of acute liver failure. Here we describe a spontaneous outbreak of toxicity in dairy cows in Uruguay. The outbreak occurred in the winter when the cows were fed sorghum silage contaminated with seeds.

Most participants primed with MenACYW-TT and MCV4-CRM maintained seroprotective titers against all serogroups, suggesting continued protection. Priming with MenACYW-TT resulted in higher persistent titers for serogroups C, W, and Y than MCV4-CRM.

Obesity is one of the non-communicable chronic diseases with the highest increase in recent decades in Latin America, affecting children, adolescents, and especially young adults. Forty percent of adults have a body mass index greater than 25 kg/m2. Numerous studies have demonstrated a relationship between obesity and cardiovascular diseases such as hypertension, coronary artery disease, heart failure, cardiac arrhythmias, diabetes, sleep apnea, and oncological diseases, among others.

Unknown Parent Groups model missing parentships according to breed, year, and pathway of selection. Genetic evaluations need a sensible definition of rules to form Unknown Parent Groups to ensure its accurate estimation. With more complex evaluations, there is a need for systematic rules to form Unknown Parent Groups.

Understanding shell morphology is central to taxonomic and evolutionary studies of bivalves. When traditional systematic studies find limitations in the recognition and classification of taxa, geometric morphometrics methods become a tool to tackle these uncertainties. Taxonomic difficulties are frequently found in systematics studies of the generally homoplastic Pitarinae (Venereidae).

Biofouling in freshwater and marine environments developed on man-made aquatic surfaces causes significant economic losses. Still, this problem is magnified when it comes to invasive species, such as the golden mussel. One of the alternatives to combat it is the use of antifouling solutions; however, the vast majority focus on solutions for the marine environment.

Fasciola hepatica is a trematode parasite of significant veterinary and public health importance, causing economic losses in livestock due to liver damage, weight loss and reduced milk production. Although triclabendazole (TCZ) is available for treatment, it does not prevent the disease or reinfection. Infected animals exhibit strong immunoregulation, increasing susceptibility to secondary infections and altering vaccine-induced antibody responses.

is a genus within the family Haploporidae and is distributed throughout the Americas. The recent application of molecular techniques has facilitated the reorganization of this genus and the description of new species, resulting in a current total of 28 species. In Argentina, 11 species have been identified; however, the validity of and remains controversial.

Random-regression models (RRM) are used in national genetic evaluations for longitudinal traits. The outputs of RRM are an index based on random-regression coefficients and its reliability. The reliabilities are obtained from the inverse of the coefficient matrix of mixed model equations (MME).

Canine lymphoma represents a biologically and metabolically heterogeneous group of neoplasms that arise from malignant transformation of lymphoid cells. An accurate diagnosis is crucial because of its impact on survival. Current diagnostic methods include clinical laboratory tests and imaging, most of which are invasive and lack sensitivity and specificity.

The biochemical hallmark of D-2-hydroxyglutaric aciduria is brain accumulation of D-2-hydroxyglutaric acid (D2HG). Patients present predominantly neurological manifestations, whose pathogenesis is still unknown. Thus, we examined the impact of elevated brain levels of D2HG, induced by intracerebral injection of this metabolite in juvenile rats, on redox and mitochondrial homeostasis and histochemical landmarks in the cerebral cortex.

Brazil's COVID-19 response has faced challenges due to the continuous emergence of variants of concern (VOCs), emphasizing the need for ongoing genomic surveillance and retrospective analyses of past epidemic waves to reassess and fine tune containment protocols. Rio Grande do Sul (RS), Brazil's southernmost state, has international borders and trades with Argentina and Uruguay, along with significant domestic connections within Brazil. The identification of source and sink transmission chains at national and international scales can identify main hubs and pathways to target future interventions.
