We investigated the association between p16 expression and histopathologic parameters including size, neural and vascular invasion, and lymph node involvement in breast cancer. 58 specimens from patients with different grades of breast cancer were included. Hematoxylin and eosin and immunohistochemistry staining for p16 was performed.

Akt1 and Jak1 siRNA based silencing effects on the proliferation and apoptosis in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.

Based on Akt1 and Jak1 key roles in apoptosis and proliferation of many cancers, the aim of this study was to find a new gene therapy strategy by silencing of these main anti-apoptotic genes for HNSCC treatment. Cancerous HN5 and normal HUVEC cell lines were treated with Akt1 and Jak1 siRNAs alone or with each other combined with/without cisplatin. The MTS, flow cytometry, 4',6-diamidino-2-phenylindole staining, real-time PCR and ELISA methods were utilized in this study.

Gender Determines the Pattern of Correlation between Body Mass Index and Major Depressive Disorder among Children and Adolescents: Results from Iranian Children and Adolescents' Psychiatric Disorders Study.

We aimed to determine the correlation of BMI with depression and to determine the role of gender in this association, in a large study sample. We used the data of participants in the Iranian Children and Adolescents' Psychiatric Disorders (IRCAP) Study, conducted in 2017. This study was a national community-based, cross-sectional study in which the urban and rural areas of all provinces of Iran were covered.

Bone Allograft: An Option for Total Mandibular Reconstruction.

Total mandibular reconstruction is one of the most challenging modalities in maxillofacial surgery. In this article, we try to introduce a method of total mandible reconstruction. We report a 25-year-old male patient with complete involvement of the mandible by Langerhans cell tumor.

Atorvastatin protected from paraquat-induced cytotoxicity in alveolar macrophages via down-regulation of TLR-4.

The current study designed to clarify the mechanism of paraquat-induced cytotoxicity and protective effects of Atorvastatin on freshly isolated alveolar macrophages (AMs). AMs were collected via bronchoalveolar lavage and exposed to various concentrations of paraquat in the presence and absence of atorvastatin for 24h. Cell viability, myeloperoxidase activity; nitric oxide generation and total antioxidant capacity were assessed.

Transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion versus instrumented posterolateral fusion In degenerative spondylolisthesis: An attempt to evaluate the superiority of one method over the other.

Background: Various surgical procedures have been recommended for the treatment of degenerative spondylolisthesis,but Controversy still exists regarding the optimal surgical technique . In this study,we compared the clinical and radiologic outcome of the Transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion(TLIF) method with the Instrumented Posterolateral fusion(PLF) in these patients.

Methods: The study population in this retrospective study consisted of 145 consecutive patients of degenerative spondylolisthesis who had undergone lumbar fusion in our institute between September 2010 and October 2013.

Outcome of laminoplasty in cervical spinal cord injury with stable spine.

Background And Objective: Cervical spinal cord injury (CSCI) with a stable spine has been increasing as the elderly population is dramatically increasing all over the world. In this study, we evaluated the neurological outcome of decompression surgery (laminoplasty) for these patients.

Materials And Methods: Forty-one patients with CSCI with stable spine who underwent decompression surgery (laminoplasty) were retrospectively studied.

Adjacent segment degeneration after posterior lumbar fusion: An analysis of possible risk factors.

Objective: Many surveys have been distributed about the risk factors for adjacent segment degeneration (ASD) after lumbar fusion. Despite myriad of risk factors recognized for ASD evolution, study results have been inconsistent and there is not an agreement regarding which are the most important. Our study was done to identify factors which may be important in the development of symptomatic ASD after lumbar fusion.

Hawthorn ethanolic extracts with triterpenoids and flavonoids exert hepatoprotective effects and suppress the hypercholesterolemia-induced oxidative stress in rats.

Objectives: The current study was aimed to determine the bioactive constituents and biological effects of the Crataegus monogyna ethanolic extracts from bark, leaves and berries on hypercholesterolemia.

Materials And Methods: Oleanolic acid, ursolic acid, quercetin and lupeol concentrations were quantified by HPLC. Total phenol content and radical scavenging activity of extracts were also measured.

Varicocele-Induced Infertility in Animal Models.

Varicocele is characterized by abnormal tortuosity and dilation of the veins of the pampiniform plexus within the spermatic cord. Although several reports show the mechanisms by which the varicocele exerts its infertility impact, the exact pathophysiology for varicocele-induced inflammation and its relationship with testicular endocrine disruption remain largely unknown. This review article will update previous findings by discussing the pathophysiology of long term-induced varicocele in rats.

Background: Osteoporosis is one of the fastest growing health problems around the world. Several factors can affect this silent disease. The current study aimed to determine the prevalence and risk factors of osteoporosis in women in Urmia, a city in northwestern Iran.

Hearing loss in chronic renal failure patient undergoing hemodialysis.

End stage renal failure patients, face to multiple complications. One of them is the involvement of auditory system. There are several proposed mechanisms for occurrence of hearing loss in these patients.

Use of intravenous steroids at induction of anesthesia for septoplasty to reduce post-operative nausea and vomiting and pain: a double-blind randomized controlled trial.

To determine the effectiveness of dexamethasone to reduce pain, nausea and vomiting after septoplasty. Study is a prospective double-blind randomized controlled trial. A total of 90 patients were enrolled and received an either of dexamethasone or placebo in the induction of anesthesia.

Effects of Acetaminophen consumption in asthmatic children.

Background: Acetaminophen exposure might be associated with increasing risk of asthma prevalence and other atopic disorders over recent decades. The present study aimed to investigate the association between acetaminophen exposure and the risk of developing childhood asthma.

Methods: A case - control study was undertaken between March and September 2010 in Urmia district north west of Iran.

Effects of vitamin E on pathological changes induced by diabetes in rat lungs.

Twenty-fourmale rats were divided into three groups: Control (C), non-treated diabetic (NTD), and vitamin E-treated diabetic (VETD) groups. After 6 weeks, we evaluated the changes in the alveolar epithelium, alveolar septum thickness, Hcy, and cathepsin G levels in the lung tissue and plasma serine protease inhibitor levels.The results revealed a significant increase in alveolar septum thickness, a high number of type II pneumocytes, high number of glycogen granules, increased vascular elastic membrane thickness, and increased Hcy and cathepsin G levels in the diabetic rats.

Nasal and paranasal sinus anatomical variations in patients with rhinogenic contact point headache.

Objective: To define anatomical variations that may lead to rhinogenic contact point headache.

Methods: Paranasal sinuses CT scan and medical records of sixty-five patients who underwent a successful endoscopic surgery for rhinogenic contact point headache reviewed.

Results: Eleven distinct anatomical variations were found in patients with rhinogenic contact point headache.

Decreased blood pressure with a corresponding decrease in adhesive molecules in diabetic rats caused by vitamin E administration.

Background: Hypertension is one of the important clinical problems of diabetic cardiovascular disease. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of vitamin E on blood pressure parameters and adhesive molecule amounts in diabetic rats.

Methods: Twenty-four male Wistar rats were divided into three groups (each of n = 8): the controls (C), non-treated diabetic (NTD), and vitamin E treated diabetic (VETD) groups.

Epstein-Barr viral infection in renal allograft recipients: a single center experience.

In this study we attempted to identify the factors involved in Epstein-Barr viral (EBV) infection among renal allograft recipients. We studied 68 renal allograft recipients hospitalized at the Imam Khomeini Medical Center from 2001 to 2004. Blood samples were obtained from the patients before renal transplantation and repeated every 3 months during the first year after transplantation.
