Catheter-related biofilm infection remains the main problem for millions of people annually, affecting morbidity, mortality, and quality of life. Despite the recent advances in the prevention of biofilm formation, alternative methods for biofilm prevention or eradication still should be found to avoid traumatic and expensive removal or catheter replacement. Soft magnetic robots have drawn significant interest in favor of remote control, fast response, and wide space for design.

MEK1/2 are critical components of the RAS-RAF-MEK-ERK or MAPK signalling pathway that regulates a variety of cellular functions including proliferation, survival, and differentiation. In 1997, a lung cancer cell line was first found to have a MEK mutation (encoding MEK2P298L). MEK is involved in various human cancers such as non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), spurious melanoma, and pancreatic, colorectal, basal, breast, and liver cancer.

MEK mutations are more common in various human malignancies, such as pancreatic cancer (70-90%), mock melanoma (50%), liver cancer (20-40%), colorectal cancer (25-35%), melanoma (15-20%), non-small cell lung cancer (10-20%) and basal breast cancer (1-5%). Considering the significance of MEK mutations in diverse cancer types, the rational design of the proposed compounds relies on the structural resemblance to FDA-approved MEK inhibitors like selumetinib and binimetinib. The compound under design features distinct substitutions at the benzimidazole moiety, specifically at positions 2 and 3, akin to the FDA-approved drugs, albeit differing in positions 5 and 6.

The reaction of aromatic ring-substituted isoselenocyanates with 2-thiopheacetic and 4-pyridinecarboxylic acid hydrazides yielded selenosemicarbazides which were further converted into previously unknown 1,2,4-triazole-3-selones and 3,3'-di(4H-1, 2,4-triazolyl)diselenides. The structures of the obtained compounds were studied by NMR spectroscopy, IR spectroscopy, and high-resolution mass spectroscopy (HR-MS). The bactericidal and fungicidal activity of some obtained compounds was evaluated in molecular modeling studies such as docking and simulation studies.

2,3,5,6-Tetramethyl-1,4-diisocyanobenzene (), 1,4-diisocyanobenzene (), and 1,4-dicyanobenzene () were co-crystallized with 1,3,5-triiodotrifluorobenzene (1,3,5-FIB) to give three cocrystals, ·1,3,5-FIB, ·2(1,3,5-FIB), and ·2(1,3,5-FIB), which were studied by X-ray diffraction. A common feature of the three structures is the presence of I···C or I···N halogen bonds (HaBs), which occurs between an iodine σ-hole and the isocyanide C-(or the nitrile N-) atom. The diisocyanide and dinitrile cocrystals ·2(1,3,5-FIB) and ·2(1,3,5-FIB) are isostructural, thus providing a basis for accurate comparison of the two types of noncovalent linkages of C≡N/N≡C groups in the composition of structurally similar entities and in one crystal environment.

While the complex 7 × 7 structure that arises upon annealing the Si(111) surface is well-known, the mechanism underlying this unusual surface reconstruction has remained a mystery. Here, we report molecular dynamics simulations using a machine-learning force field for Si to investigate the Si(111)-7 × 7 surface reconstruction from the melt. We find that there are two possible pathways for the formation of the 7 × 7 structure.

Using the advanced analyses of electron density and fermionic potential, we show how electron delocalization influences the ability of defect-containing graphene to form tetrel bonds. The C atoms of a vacancy defect can produce one nonpolar interaction, alongside a peculiar polar C⋯C bond. The latter stems from the presence of a localized electron pair on a vacancy defect C atom and the local depletion of electron localization on another C atom.

PTSD is associated with disturbed hepatic morphology and metabolism. Neuronal mitochondrial dysfunction is considered a subcellular determinant of PTSD, but a link between hepatic mitochondrial dysfunction and hepatic damage in PTSD has not been demonstrated. Thus, the effects of experimental PTSD on the livers of high anxiety (HA) and low anxiety (LA) rats were compared, and mitochondrial determinants underlying the difference in their hepatic damage were investigated.

Alkali-activated binders made from various waste products can appreciably reduce the emission of CO and enhance the waste recycling efficiency, thus making them viable substitutes to ordinary Portland cement (OPC)-based binders. Waste materials including fly ash (FA), palm oil fuel ash (POFA), and granulated blast furnace slag (GBFS) reveal favorable effects when applied to alkali-activated mortars (AAMs) that are mainly related to the high contents of silica, alumina, and calcium. Therefore, fifteen AAM mixes enclosing FA, POFA with high volume of GBFS were designed.
