There are many times during laparoscopic surgery that a surgeon, whether gynecologist or general surgeon, must work in an environment where spillage of tissue or organ contents should be avoided. In gynecologic surgery, this involves management of ovarian cysts as well as containment of tissue fragments during morcellation of uteri or fibroids. Unfortunately, many laparoscopic containment bags on the market today are not large enough to remain open on their own during the entire procedure.

Objective: To determine the predictive validity of the Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development, Third Edition (Bayley-III) at age 2 years for cognitive abilities in preschool children born at ≤ 30 weeks' gestation.
Methods: This prospective regional study included all 187 liveborn infants ≤ 30 weeks' gestation born between July 2005 and June 2006. Of the 172 children who survived to 4 years, 156 (91%) were evaluated at 2 and 4 years.

Objective: We sought to evaluate the incidence of reported venomous snakebites in the state of New York between 2000 and 2010.
Methods: Data were collected retrospectively from the National Poison Data System (NPDS) and then reviewed for species identification and clinical outcome while using proxy measures to determine incidence of envenomation.
Results: From 2000 to 2010 there were 473 snakebites reported to the 5 Poison Control Centers in the state of New York.

We present the use of a series of laboratory, analytical and interpretation methods to investigate personalized cancer care for a case of small cell prostate carcinoma (SCPC), a rare and aggressive tumor with poor prognosis, for which the underlying genomic architecture and mutational spectrum has not been well characterized. We performed both SNP genotyping and exome sequencing of a Virchow node metastasis from a patient with SCPC. A variety of methods were used to analyze and interpret the tumor genome for copy number variation, loss of heterozygosity (LOH), somatic mosaicism and mutations in genes from known cancer pathways.

Importance: Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), an antioxidant that supports mitochondrial function, has been shown in preclinical Parkinson disease (PD) models to reduce the loss of dopamine neurons, and was safe and well tolerated in early-phase human studies. A previous phase II study suggested possible clinical benefit.
Objective: To examine whether CoQ10 could slow disease progression in early PD.

Background: Universal immunization of adolescents against meningococcal disease with a quadrivalent meningococcal ACWY (MenACWY) conjugate vaccine is recommended in a number of countries.
Methods: In a randomized, controlled, observer-blinded, multicenter trial, 1016 participants, 10-25 years of age, were randomly allocated 1:1:1 to receive a single dose of 1 of 2 lots of an investigational tetanus toxoid-conjugated MenACWY vaccine (MenACWY-TT) or a marketed diphtheria toxoid-conjugated MenACWY vaccine (MenACWY-DT). The primary outcome was the noninferiority of the vaccine response after MenACWY-TT (lot A) compared with MenACWY-DT for all 4 serogroups.

This article offers an explanation for the apparent lack of Na, K-ATPase activity in parietal cells although ouabain has been known to inhibit gastric acid secretion since 1962. The gastric H, K-ATPase (proton-pump) seems to be acting in altered states, thus behaving like a Na, K-ATPase (Na-pump) and/or Ca-ATPase (Ca-pump) depending on cellular needs. This conclusion is based on the following findings.

Objectives: A single randomized trial established lobectomy as the standard of care for the surgical treatment of early-stage non-small cell lung cancer. Recent advances in imaging/staging modalities and detection of smaller tumors have once again rekindled interest in sublobar resection for early-stage disease. The objective of this study was to compare lung cancer survival in patients with non-small cell lung cancer with a diameter of 30 mm or less with clinical stage 1 disease who underwent lobectomy or sublobar resection.

Importance: Men's lacrosse is a fast-paced, high-collision sport with ball speeds in excess of 90 mph. Laryngeal fractures in lacrosse are a rarely reported injury. To increase awareness of this potential injury, we describe 3 male lacrosse players who sustained laryngeal fractures from lacrosse ball trauma to the neck.

When ovarian preservation is desired, a minimally invasive laparoscopic surgical procedure using a "cross bag" technique is effective to consistently manage and remove ovarian cysts of concern. In addition to the standard preoperative preparation of patients, a bowel prep is critical, especially if the mass is large or the patient obese. Visualization of all internal structures is achieved using a multi-screen HD system and 5-mm laparoscope.

Background: Sacral giant cell tumors are particularly challenging to treat as they are often quite extensive and surround the sacral nerve roots, making surgical extirpation very difficult without high morbidity and frequent local recurrence.
Case Report: We report on a 33-year old male patient with sacral giant cell tumor treated with intravenous bisphosphonate therapy after early failure of embolization procedures. At 3 years follow-up, the patient had no pain, no neurological deficits, and no local recurrence.

Coronary anatomy has traditionally focused on ventricular circulation. This is largely due to the extent to which coronary artery disease contributes to ischemic heart disease through ventricular myocardial damage. Atrial fibrillation and other tachyarrhythmias that involve the atria, however, remain a major cause of morbidity and mortality.

Individuals infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) are at increased risk for human papillomavirus (HPV)-related cancers of the anogenital region. A majority of these cancers have been reported in adult patients; few reports are available regarding anogenital HPV-associated carcinomas developing in children. We report a case of perianal Bowen disease in an HIV-positive child.
